Anyone know what Leaf prospects will be playing in the WJC this year? Not just for team Canada, but any country.

Douggy 10-07-2003, 06:37 PM Its hard to say now, but we'll see when it rolls around. I can't see Steen not making it for Sweden. Epoch 10-07-2003, 06:38 PM I see: Stajan,Steen,Seikola,Immonen........I finish up later.....!!! RiellyGood 10-07-2003, 06:57 PM I see: Stajan,Steen,Seikola,Immonen........I finish up later.....!!! Only Steen of those you mentioned is eligible to play in the wjc, I am almost positive of this. Sagat, Volkov have shots, while Ian White is a lock/ sluggo* 10-07-2003, 07:43 PM If Stajan is still with the TO. Leafs he won't be going. I was wondering most about White, Wiliams (if hes even eligable), Volkov (I'd like to see him play), Immonen, and Sagat. Doug Evinou 10-07-2003, 07:52 PM If Stajan is still with the TO. Leafs he won't be going. I was wondering most about White, Wiliams (if hes even eligable), Volkov (I'd like to see him play), Immonen, and Sagat. stajan and immonen are both too old. you have to be 19 on December 31st to be eligible. williams is eligible, but is a long shot (although not as much of one if staal and horton stick in the nhl). Mess 10-07-2003, 09:26 PM Its hard to say now, but we'll see when it rolls around. I can't see Steen not making it for Sweden. Alex was team Captain last year as an 18 year old ...This year he will be captain again and is ranked the 2nd best prospect in Sweden, with only Robert Nilsson ranked higher.. Not only will he be there baring an injury, but he could be a key player of the Tourney now that he will be 19... Yes Steen will be there.. Mess 10-07-2003, 10:02 PM The only Leaf prospects that are eligible age wise to play in the WJC are Steen and White who are returning and shoe-ins.. & the following players but they are long shots, unless they have fantastic seasons, other than Sagat and Volkov.. Swift Currents: Jeremy Williams for Canada (will need a strong season..with Staal and Horton and PM Bouchard eligible but likely not available but chances have improved.) Prince George Goalie : Todd Ford for Canada (Chances improved with Fleury signing in Pitts..) Plymouth Whalers Centre: John Mitchell for Canada (Checking Centre hopeful) Gatineau Olympiques Dman: Dominic D'Amour for Canada ..MAYBE!!!! Calgary Hitman Centre: Shaun Landolt (NOPE) Kootnay Ice Forward: Martin Sagat for Slovakia US Born & University of New Hamphsire Dman : John Doherty (not at Summer US Eval Camp) & Russian :Konstantin Volkov (who was a late cut for Russia's WJC team in 2003) Thats all folks... Douggy 10-08-2003, 07:13 AM Kootnay Ice Forward: Martin Sagat for Slovakia I'd say its likely he makes it for Slovakia. Russian :Konstantin Volkov (who was a late cut for Russia's WJC team in 2003) If he was a late cut last time, he'll probably make it this time. I watched D'Amour for a long time and follow the Olympiques even from where I am. D'amour won't make it unless a few pretty unbelievable things happen. His team-mate, Doug O'Brien, is a guy who could make it, and I believe, will surprise a lot of people and make the squad. One of the more under-rated prospects around. D'amour is having a very good season, but last year, he was a 6th defenceman, and had a poor season. He lacks the footspeed if you ask me. There are much better d-men around, including O'Brien. Sagat is one guy who IMO will make it and show what he's made of. I'm high on the guy, he was a good pick, and while he is taking his time adjusting to North America, he'll put up good numbers by the end of the year. Size, speed and skill, a nice package. | ||
