Question about Redden.

Since you guys follow Ottawa, you should know more about your players, I picked Redden in my yahoo 1-year fantasy league, my question is, what do you guys think his point totals will be like this year? will he pass 40 points? is he still Ottawa's top D-man, or Chara is?

Thanks in advance

I would say he has a chance of passing 40 points. As far a top d-man goes, I guess offensively he is, although he can still be prone to some...bizarre defensive mistakes. :D

He doesn't "quarterback" the main powerplay unit though, or at least he didn't last season.

Well, he was a defenceman on the first powerplay unit. I'd say he quarterbacked it, although whether or not you label him or Alfredsson (over d-man on the first unit) as the QB is pointless in my opinion.

As for Redden's scoring, 40 points is a very good bet, and I think 50, maybe even 60 points is not hard to fathom. I think this will be Redden's best year. In my opinion, he is our steadiest, and best defenceman.

I have a hard time believing many defencemen in the league will reach 60 points.

Redden is pretty much unquestionably the #1 d-man in Ottawa. I would argue that Alfredsson serves as the #1 PP unit QB, but, as was said earlier, it doesn't really matter since Redden is usually on the top PP unit anyways as the other point man.

Assuming a reasonably healthy season, 40-50 points is a virtual lock for Redden. He's scored between 8-10 goals each of the past 6 years, and should fairly easily register at least 30-35 assists on a team with this much offensive ability, and given that he now plays around 25min/gp.

Redden is easily the senators' #1 D. There's a lot of hype about Chara, but he's not at Redden's level yet. A lot of hockey magazines have spreads on Chara, but if you read them, they all say that Redden is the 'stud' of the D line-up or the 'anchor' or whatever other term you want to use.

Alfie is called the #1 PP unit's QB more often than Redden, although sometimes commentators do call him that. The Sens' PP is such that it shouldn't make must difference who has the label.

Redden is a lock for 40 points easily and the expectation for this year is that he'll surpass 50. Both Muckler and Martin have gone public with the fact that they think Redden can do more offensively. Redden's said it himself and this may be the year he finally pushes himself over.

It also helps that he logs the most ice time out of all the Sens, with the exception of Lalime.
