whats your guess? If you categorize a team as excellent/outstanding as 110 points or above; very good as 100-109; good as 90-99; average as 80-89; lotter below 80.....you'd have to say our Broons 'should' be a good team.

But they have something different this year (maybe) WATCHABILITY. Besides having one of the 5 top lines in hockey should they choose to put Joe with Sammy and Murray; they have 3 or 4 kids that could form the second tier support- Bergeron, Jillson, Raycroft are the big three; and then there is Jurcina & Huml for now; others to follow- Zinovjev (hopefully); Samuelsson, Hilbert....even maybe Toivonen. How Raycroft, Jillson and to a degree Bergeron play could have a long way to what point total the Broons end up at.

Quickie

Forwards- beyond the Big 3, these 5 second tier guys like Rolston, Axelsson, Knuble, Green and Lapointe need to and should be able to score 100 goals.(I expect big things from him- and maybe having Bergeron to have an interest in will make him feel less inclined to worry about his goals and assists and look at the big picture of leadership, energy, grit....if he can stay on the ice healty I see no reason why close to 20 goals and an in your face team first toughness isn't reachable)

my realistic 75 game projections- Rolston (25-30); Knuble, Lapointe, Green and Ax all at (15-20)

The first line should be able to score 100 +/- 10 goals by themselves

Samsonov (25-35); Thornton & Murray both between (30-40)

I don't see a problem scoring goals.....I see the defense as decent with a chance to be a sleeper with health and continued improvement from Boynton and Jillson.

The goaltending should be fine- if the defense does their job of eliminating rebounds and giving the goalies good looks, the forwards pick up their checks and eliminate odd man rushes they should be good (and these are vet forwards that should know better- even Bergeron's resume is says defensive awareness an attribute)

put me down for 96 points and the Broons back on the radar screen and packing the house starting in January...eventual playoff death to the Sens after two tough rounds.

I honestly was going to have it titled...Kirk 91, Dupes 94, and Jeff ??? but couldn't find the thread quickly- one of my kids has strep throat so I'm kinda on 'dothisdad' alert....anyways, great minds think alike. I just got my tix out for tonights game; bummer I'm going to miss the Sox game- I don't give them much chance tonight; 5-3 Yanks but if the Sox win they are going to take them out; this is almost a gimme for the Yanks

A season accumulating 90 + points is a good season,
and it appears this should be an entertaining team.

The season has started, and a lot can shake out, but
the make up of this team seems a lot different than
years past.

The secondary players are young and have the potential
to get better. In years past, the secondary players were
vets (McInnis, Sweeney, etc) and had no upside.

Of course it all boils down to success in the playoffs.
Hopefully they don't draw the team that goes to the
finals, which it seems like they have done for the last
6 years.

I was VERY pleased to see the print given today in the Globe to the Bruins and the season opener...

Depends on Joe & Potvin I think. If Joe missed any amount of time or Potvin stinks it up, they'd be in trouble.

BUT, if Joe takes another step forward. How about 50 goals? Plus Potvin plays consistant and steals a game on his own from time to time, who knows how good they can be.

Too bad about Zam & LaPointe starting out banged up. I had hoped these 2 would have solid years and get out of the injury rut. Wishful thinking I guess. The Bs will have a good team, but not one that can afford too many injuries. Hopefully they return soon to allow Sullivan to get some regular lines going. There's so many new faces, it'll take a month or two for the guys to get used to each other.

All in all I can't see why they can't finish #2 behind OTT in their division, and battle for the #4 overall seed for home ice. As long as Sulivan keeps them away from the extreme highs and lows that Ftorek had them in. Surely Potvin can keep them close in enough games to allow Joe, Sammy, & Murray a chance to pull out some ties & wins.

I'm just glad OC didn't throw in the towel and get rid of everyone he could and give the CBA speech. He appears to be very up front with the players and fans. He brought in some bodies to fill the necessary spots without selling the farm. He's brought together what should be a fun team to watch and one that should be in the post season.

Best of all he canned my 3 most despised Bruins in recent memory all within a year. Ftorek, Stumpel, and Sheilds. OC I'm starting to like you more and more all the time. Now go get us a Norris candidate in the next few years, and I'll say Harry who?
