Is Martin Havlat worth 2, 3 or 4 first rounders? He wants 2.5 for 2 or more years. He scored 59 pts. with 24 goals in 67 games last year. +20. 22 years young. Ranked as the 6th best LW on CBS Sportsline. Say 2.3 for 4 years with incentives.

Marion Gaborik is also still out there and is worth the 5 first rounders if we can sign him long term. 30 goals, 35 assists, +12, and 21 Years old.

These will not be top ten picks if these guy's are on the team.

If we are worried about the end of Ziggy's contract, or just want to bulk up on the eastern euro scorring machines here's a way to go.

Both the Senators and the Wild are cheaping these guys out. This would be a dumpster I'd dive in!

The Kings would not make a move like this in the best of times, and definetly aren't about to make any offers to other teams RFA's.

Now is the time to cry poverty, and pray for an 8th seed.

It's rare to see teams try to grab a group 2 FA from a team anymore. But if they tried, I'd be pretty certain that Ottawa and Minnesota would match the offers given to these young players. These two players are proven already whereas draft picks are not certain to fulfill the promise.

And to top it off...the Sens can match is CANADIAN dollars...;) the NHL picks up the difference...go nuts...offer him what ever you want...we'll get him at a 40% discount then.

los angeles may be the second largest market in north america - in general terms. but as far as hockey goes, we are effectively a small market. there simply aren't as many hardcore hockey fans here as there are in other markets. not that the kings cannot build support and create more fans and hence a bigger market, but the bottom line is that our team is not a money-making machine like, say, the toronto maple leafs.

furthermore our rich owner didn't get that way by dumping money into unprofitable ventures. as owner, it is neither his job nor his obligation to dump his own money into getting free agents simply for our gratification. the kings are a business, just like any other. and while i think it would great if the kings existed for and were run by the commonwealth of los angeles, that simply isn't the case.

sorry to go on the spiel, but i don't think its a negative thing that our team's management and ownership group is attempting to practice fiscal responsibility. i think that if one is serious about the league surviving, fiscal respsonibility is the place to start.

If you want Havlat...you'd have to start with Frolov...and no no thanks to Camalleri...unless he's grown about a foot in the last few months.
