Why does Guerin drop his gloves?

He usually takes on average to below average fighters or else he chops at people from behind. He made the mistake of taking on someone who takes care of himself.

cory sarich gave him a pretty decent beating when he was a bruin. and last year, iginla layeth the smackdown on him. guerin is more of a tough-guy type player- he likes using the lumber, and sticks up for his teammates, but he's no cam neely- that much i know.

Oh yeah i remember the Sarich beating.The Problem was that I imagined that it was Marty Mcinnis taking the beating from Sarich! Man did Mcinnis have big nostrils!!!!

I remember Todd Simpson whopping the he!! out of one Joe Thornton as well.....when he was a Flame. Atleast he doesn't back down like a certain first line RW that I know.

I'm a Guerin fan, at least while he was a Bruin.

But the funniest fight he was ever in had to be when he (while a Devil) took on Rick Zombo (while a Bruin). Zombo handled him pretty easy and made Guerin look bad. It was a classic case of a journeyman, no nonsense vet clueing in a snot nosed big shot.

Hey, at least the guy drops the gloves. If he didn't, then he would be lambasted as a "Euro"-type player who doesn't back it up. Fact is, he's just not a great fighter for some reason. Ce la vie.

On the other note...Guering did score un-freakin-believable goal yesterday!!! Absolutely not his stupid style goal....We have to give him that.

If he could score goals like this on the daily basis he would be worth his salary IMHO!

I recall that fight Blackeye mentioned, where Guerin took a beating and a half from Rick Zombo, who was a Bruin at the time.

Also recall him getting taken apart by Chris Neil and Joe coming to his rescue as Guerin was lying on his back "studying" the Fleet Center ceiling..... -Piels

That was actually during Thornton's rookie season, the 18 year old, 198 pounder. I wouldn't really call it an a$$ whopping either, by the look on Simpson's face he was actually pretty suprised that Thornton actually dropped his gloves. Thornton did have a good rookie showing in a fight though with Dave Scathard at the fleet while he was with the Canucks. Anyways I'm sure Thronton could handle Simpson a lot better now.

i didnt see that fight last night,,,but,,,, one of the best fights i ever seen was guerin (devils) and keane (canadiens) it was sooo good that even espn aired it on sports center .. and thats saying alot

Muzz is wimp, no doubt. Can't complain about the goal-scoring, though. A while ago someone posted something about a coach being pissed at a goalscorer who got his ass handed to him in a fight. Understandable. Murray isn't physical, but he brings plenty of other elements to the game.

Why Billy G keeps dropping the gloves?...The quote ( I beleive from a younger, meaner Owen Nolan) goes something like this;

"It's not if you win or lose, it's if you have the b@lls to show up"

He maybe the biggest 6'3 but Oleg Kvasha is the biggest 6'5 wimp but atleast Murray scores to make up for not being physical at all.

Yeah, Thornton has put on 35 lbs since then (listed as 232 lbs today)and would most likely fare much better than he did when he weighed 198.

As for Muzz not fighting, I dont see that as a big deal. Neither does LeClair. I do recall Muzz getting right in Chara's face (gloves on - of course) last year. -Piels

What the heck does this have to do with anything? He is a productive player who gives it is all when he is out there. I dont see him as a wimp because he doesnt fight.

When will most people start to realize that you dont have to fight to play *tough*.

Calling one of our best players a wimp is about as stupid a thing as I have read on this board.

1. Murray and effort. yeah, he works, but all players have different work rates. And Murray is a guy in the Stumpel mode. He often looks lik he is floating or not working hard. sometimes I have a hard time telling myself that he cares...many times he appears to be going through the motions...just as Stumpel did. It gives off the appearance from time to time that he doesnt care and that he isnt tough. Lets face it...the circle is among the areas were the least or meekest contact occurs....and thats Murrays home. He may be as tough a uy as their is in the league...I dont know. But he doesnt play that type of game.


2. colt45.Orr`s comment was DEAD ON! It doesnt matter if you fight 25 times and you get your butt whipped ALL 25 times! Bill Guerin FLAT OUT has guts and will answer the bell EVERY single time it is rung! I dont thnk I could count the number of times he has waded into scrums to back up his mates. That the biggest reason I HATE the fact that we allowed he and Allison to leave, or be dealt! BOTH of them jumped into crap and stood up for the mates CONSISTENTLY! Neither was a good fighter by any stretch. But BOTH had the guts to do it, and were teams guys who LEAD BY EXAMPLE!
