Epoch 10-11-2003, 09:30 AM Typical Damien Cox negative attitude...
Douggy 10-11-2003, 09:42 AM I hate it when they imply that the owners don't want the team to win the Cup. As if the owners would be more happy with the revenue from one or two playoff series, instead of four.
Pinto 10-11-2003, 10:00 AM if u wanna send him an email its dcox@thestar.ca, hes not going to like mine :D
OpinionatedMike 10-11-2003, 10:24 AM That was one of the worst articles I've ever seen.
Cox as a pro writer could do a lot better, he's clearly just lazy.
saa25 10-11-2003, 10:54 AM I honestly can't say that I disagree with his article...

BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Northern Dancer 10-11-2003, 11:02 AM Damien Cox, is anybody surprpised, this is the quintessential anti anything Leaf journalist. He should have stuck to tennis at Wimbelton because his hockey and business knowledge is obviously lacking. I don't know what I dislike more about him, his constant Leaf bashing or his complete suck up role to McGowan on the FAN. Both are pathetic. I agree with the poster above, the greedy owners of MLSE have NO interest in maximizing play-off revenue and they print those $500.00 SCF tickets for sport and have NO interest in ever cashing them. Hopefully Cox is never transferred to the business section !!!!
Northern Dancer 10-11-2003, 11:03 AM I honestly can't say that I disagree with his article...
What do you agree with, surely not the entire article !!!!!
p.l.f. 10-11-2003, 11:36 AM he doesnt have the balls to leave his email after his articles

i know what it is
but he doesnt put it after his articles
Icewind Dale 10-11-2003, 12:27 PM I didn't read it and I don't plan to. Want to know why? Because that's exactly how he keeps his job. Writing controversial articles and opinions is what sells papers. Cox knows this and so do editors of the Star. It's no different than with Strachan or Ulmer. Every time someone clicks on a link to one of their articles it's recorded. The high-ups can see that these guys generate interest. Not to mention the sponsors can see it as well.
If you don't agree with the utter garbage they write, abstain from reading it. Trust me on that one. If they know people are going to read it, the status quo of utter crap will continue. If people refrain, things will change.
Bicycle Repairman 10-11-2003, 01:45 PM Damien Cox is one of finest writers in the business, and the reigning National Newspaper Award winner I'll have you know . His unrelenting and penetrating style has made him perhaps the most-respected sports columnist in Canada. The Toronto Star is the largest-circulation metro daily and Cox is the Alpha Dog there for a reason. Coupled with his radio and television work, one can truly say that Damien Cox is indeed Toronto's King of All Media.
So, by all means, please do write him an email. The more foaming, vitriolic and illiterate the better. Guys like Damien Cox eat that stuff up. Hate mail is like a badge of honour. They can forward them to their desker pals with guffaws all around, or better yet they print 'em out and tack 'em to the newsroom corkboard.

What happened to Al? :dunno: Or do you know more than we do and are they in fact one and the same person? :p

I take it your are refering to mi amigo grande from the Toronto Sun (who was in top form with his season forecast the other day, BTW). No, he and Cox are not the same person. There's only one Alejandro Enriqué Strachan.
I continue to be completely incapable of deciphering when our visiting Bicycle man is serious or joking.
randynicholson 10-13-2003, 03:59 AM The simple fact of the matter is that there are an awful lot of people in Toronto that hate the Maple Leafs and who criticize them at every turn. Mr. Cocks is merely the mindlessly negative leader of a mindlessly negative constituency (and who happens to work for a mindlessly negative newspaper).
I really don't care when people who support the club offer criticism. I was at a family gathering on Saturday night and the banter around the room during the game was highly critical and quite hilarious. That's fair - the Leafs really stunk against the Habs and I know that everyone there dearly wants Toronto to win. It's the same on this Board - some people criticize because the want the team to improve while others do so only to instigate and annoy.
It's interesting that Mr. Cocks is considered to be such an influential writer in some circles. No one who is so biased can ever have an effect on the thing that they target for daily abuse. Certainly Pat Quinn always ignored Mr. Cocks, correctly viewing him as an unwelcome but unavoidable part of working for the Maple Leafs. John Ferguson is also a tough and driven man who will undoubtedly draw the same conclusion in time.
Perhaps Mr. Cocks will someday retire to his beloved Hamilton where he can write all about the past glories of the Ticats and Fincups. When that happens, maybe someone who's fair and objective can take over at the Red Star. Millions of real Maple Leafs fans deserve as much.
