In his next start, Martin Brodeur will break the record he shares with Mike Richter for most games by a goaltender (666) who has played his entire career with one team.... When Paul Martin and David Hale were in the opening night lineup, it was the 12th time in team history that two or more Devils rookies played in the same game. The last time was Oct. 6, 2001, in Washington (Josef Boumedienne, Andreas Salomonsson and Scott Clemmensen). The first came on Feb. 27, 1983, in Buffalo (Mike Moher and Larry Floyd).

I actually put that in there and it drops out of the poll for some reason. Deleted the original thread with poll and tried it a 2nd time and it happened again. I don't think the v bulletin software likes the option of 0. Probably should have spelled out the word.

Yup, I'm watching it. I might get a late jump on the Devils tonight.

Thank God Nomar GarciaPop-Up can't hit in the clutch.

The Sox just picked the wrong fights. This series ends in 5 games now. The Yanks are determined and in no way intimidated.

This is great stuff. But Pedro's a b-i-t-c-h.

Decent first period. As mentioned before Martin looks much more comfortable. Whats with the refs though?? Those were some terrible calls against the Canes. I'd would be PISSED if those types of calls were going against NJ.

:handclap: :yo:

He didn't need to grab him by the head and throw him down to the ground the way he did. The local media will chalk it up to him defending himself from a guy charging at him, but a 72 year old with two reconstructed knees isn't quite the same thing as an angry Devil Ray player coming at him. When I first watched Zim go down I was concerned he wouldn't be able to get back up and he might suffer a stroke or something.

But the fact that a 72-year-old Zimmer has the confidence to attack a 31-year-old pitcher says all you need to know about Ol' Zim. I love that man.

It's alright, the Sox got two games left in their "Hey we can finally do it season". They picked the wrong fights tonight. The Yanks smell blood.

That was a priceless moment last season. Nieuwendyk sets a record and is more concerned about his teammates getting penalties for all coming onto the ice then the fact that he just made the history books. Awesome team player. Wish him nothing but the best of luck with the Leafs on nights when the Devils aren't involved.

Even though the Devils won (and got a power play goal! STREAK! A POWER PLAY GOAL STREAK!), sounds like that 3rd period was ugly. Maybe it was a good thing I missed the game because I studied with someone for two exams for ~3 hours? Wait, what did I just type...

So, you think Martin and Hale will be in Devils red come Thursday?

Niedermayer21

Great job Unthinkable! :handclap:

I would give Paul Martin another 5 games and then send him down. I would send Hale down shortly thereafter. First we sign Tommy Albelin, then we call up Ray Giroux.

Albany was outshot 19-1 in the third period tonight. Clemmensen gave up 3 goals as we lost to Springfield 5-4. Suglobov with a goal and an assist. He will be our sniper come March. I guarantee it! Just call me Broadway Joe. lol

I would like to see Elias with Brylin and Larionov and Friesen with Gomez and either Marshall or Gionta. Do u agree with me?

BTW, I would like to see Albany sign a veteran defenseman who we could call up in an emergency, kind of like Ken Sutton was for us a few seasons ago. Sutton was great in 2001 when Nieder went down after that cheapshot by Domi.

Any ideas/names? Thanks!!!

Wow, what a job Larionov has done on the powerplay! It's fun not groaning every time they get on the ice. I'd like to see the defense tighten up, but we had some similar issues early in the season last year. If Martin and Hale can find their games soon, they'll be in good shape.

I'm with you on those offensive pairings. Langenbrunner deserves top 2 line ice time, but he seems to work really well on the checking line with John Madden. Our entire line 1, line 2, line 3, line 4 rotations seem to be so interchangeable now more then ever that its tough to say which is which anyways so who knows. I prefer Friesen and Langs on the same line myself, but the Devils need a balanced scoring attack so breaking them apart maybe isn't such a bad idea after all.

This whole Comrie thing is really stuck in my head right now. I know Missionhockey hates this discussion to no end, but if we run with Madden, Larionov, Rupp, and Rasmussen as our teams top 4 centers and then plug in Comrie and shift Larionov to wing we wouldn't be in bad shape losing Scott Gomez imo. I'm just not convinced he'll ever repeat the same numbers he managed in his rookie season here and I feel Comrie would be an immediate upgrade even though we wouldn't be getting bigger down the middle with this move.

Heh. 5-3 to Minnesota and 5-0 to Columbus. I can only imagine the reactions to both.

Signing Larionov is looking to be a very good signing, perhaps all the Devils needed was a legendary Russian playmaking center to jumpstart that PP.

I don't think Martin and Hale will stick around for very long. I think Burns is just using the two now to get a taste of the NHL game in all aspects (explaining why Martin's on the PP, getting PK time, etc.) before sending them down for further seasoning. And then comes the Brown-Giroux connection. (Aside: How come no one is bringing up Brown? Is he injured or something?)

If Martin and Hale are going to to the AHL, Why not just leave them both in the NCAA. They could have dominated and been more ready,Martin with another year in the weight room. Pull a Leopold. And their experiance would be free.

As I understand it, all entry-level deals are two-way, so I doubt they would be expensive AHL players. As MN_gopher says, more expensive than if they were in college (ie free), but still inexpensive nontheless.

the salary may be two way, but I believe Lou gave Martin an $800,000 bonus to leave school. I think it was the right move. Neither one was going to learn anything else in college.
