Lard_Lad 10-11-2003, 07:01 PM There are a bunch of threads on the subject, so we might as well have a poll, too. Note that this isn't about whether or not Marc-Andre Fleury is capable of playing in the NHL, just whether or not it's a good idea for him to be spending the whole season in Pittsburgh as an 18-year-old.

Pinto 10-11-2003, 07:47 PM The QMJHL, a 18 year old cant be taking 50 shots a night in the NHL
Burke's Evil Spirit 10-11-2003, 09:27 PM When you say "NHL" do you mean "whole season in the NHL come hell or high water?" or "Plays in the NHL until he's sucking, so he's sent down."
At any rate, I don't see what's so bad about him facing ~50 shots. If he can handle it, let him play...historically, rookies who get thrust into big-responsibility roles tend to do better.

tom_servo 10-12-2003, 12:33 AM Everyone's so hasty with that "50 shots a game" thing. The opener was the first game they played in nearly two weeks.
Before today's game with Philly, everyone was talking about an embarrassing blowout, but no, the Flyers took 30 shots and the Pens tied the game. That will probably be closer to the norm -- around 30 shots, and a more competitive team.
Fleury will probably be alright.
Epsilon 10-12-2003, 12:58 AM He should play 10 games or whatever and then go down to the Q. I don't buy this baptism by fire stuff as being good for his development at all.
Theoren Fan 10-12-2003, 03:56 AM I don't know really, just get him the hell out of Chicago!

Robert Paulson* 10-12-2003, 09:32 AM Definitely the NHL. The 48 shots he faced were because the Pens were rusty because they hadn't played in over a week. We won't face 50 shot a night every night, and Fleury can handle it. He was the only reason we didn't lose that game 6-0.

Wrong Fleury bub.
As long as he can handle it I can't see why he shouldn't be in the NHL.
I'd rather lose in the NHL than win in the QMJHL.
eitehr he gets shelled in junior or shelled in the NHL. I say let him stay up in the big leagues for awhile and then send him to the A
onearmedbandit14 10-13-2003, 05:14 AM He clearly belongs in the NHL, but getting shelled every night and losing might not be all that helpful to his development. He needs to be tough mentally for this to help him.
Histrion 10-13-2003, 06:05 AM It depends upon his performances...
JDB3939 10-14-2003, 12:58 PM The NHL, barring any major problems within the next 9 games.
Playing against lesser competition may stunt his development as much as playing against much greater competition.
Personally I think he should split the year between WBS and Pittsburgh, but they can't do that because of AHL regulations. So I guess, trial by fire.
Bring_Bak_Damphousse 10-14-2003, 01:17 PM As long as he plays I say leave him in the NHL, I don`t think it`s good for a young player to be sent down every time he has a bad game. I think that they should leave him with the Pens and split the time with Caron.
H2ODP 10-14-2003, 01:37 PM I think Fleury should spend 1 more year in the QMJHL.. Prospects just shouldn't be rushed into the NHL.
