How many Games will Luongo play this year....Sheilds is seriously a terrible NHL goalie....Hurme was good....not Luongo good but Hurme was certainly NHL material...maybe even nUmber 1 material at some point....
but Lunogo is now going to be counted on to play serious games 70 games is almost withen reason....

The way he's played in the first 3 games of the yr, I don't see why he can't handle 70 games. While everyone says that Shields sucks, I'll reserve my opinion until I see him play in a Panthers uni. I know some players just flourish when they aren't counted on as heavily and can flourish when they're in a new town.

Actually, if I remember correctly, Shields has always been a solid back-up in the NHL. He's just never been able to be a consistent starter. he was decent in San Jose as a starter, but sucked in Anaheim and Boston. He was good tho in relief in San Jose and Anaheim before both teams decided to ship off their starters for the cheaper option. Hell, Shields even looked decent behind a bad Boston defense at times. Hurme pn the other hand was a horrid 0-7-1 with a 3.78 GAA in the second half of the season last year, with the sporadic play that is usually expected of a back-up. Hurme put up good numbers when Luongo was down with an injury, but to say Hurme was a better back-up is by far overstatin the comparison. No matter what anyone tries to say about Hurme's second half record, a solid back-up won't have the nite and day stats when the team essentially plays the same.

Hurme's record isn't a reflection so much of his own play but the fact that the Panthers as a team sunk like a stone in the 2nd half. That Dudley points to Hurme's 1st half v 2nd half stats as his rationale is weakened given the manner in which Dudley wasted an asset.

From my observation Hurme was letting LOTS of weak goals (one I remember the most was a really weak one he let in against Ottawa in the last minute of a tied game) in the second half of the season. He was'nt playing close to as good as the first half and most of those goals he would of stopped earlier in the season when he was playing a consistent amount of games.

If Loungo keeps up his hot play, I really don't see Shields playing until maybe 29 or 30, as we play back to back road games against PHI & OTT. Or maybe the 24 & 25, as we play home against the Wild and away in Atlanta.
If not then (which I doubt) then probably for sure Nov. 1 against a weak SJ squad.
