Matt Foley* 10-14-2003, 03:55 AM What do you all think? Would Thursday's game vs. Chicago be an ideal time to give Freddy a start, or should we continue to go with Denis, who is playing very well? I think some valid arguments could be made either way here, so have at it.

No.
2 days off between games, and a day off after that before Nashville, after only 3 games in 5 nights doesn't warrant giving Denis the night off. Play him against Tampa Bay next week.
I can see all the positives to getting him a game against a struggling team, at home, early on, etc... but I don't think we need it yet.
Matt Foley* 10-14-2003, 04:15 AM Samkow or Aaron, please delete this duplicate thread that does not have the poll. For some reason it posted without me hitting the submit button.
Thanks,

I'm looking forward to seeing Freddie get some starts this year, but Denis has just been too solid to sit, especially with the off days this week.
From my admittedly poor angle on the two Nucks goals in the 2nd.---at the other end of the ice---it didn't look like he had much of a chance to stop either.
Shuting out the Rangers, and then holding off the Canucks, IMO DM should ride him.

That's the way it looked on my TV, too - neither was a cheapie. And the one Bertuzzi put in which was disallowed (a good call, I think) was a wicked blast.
I have to go with the majority here; ride Denis a bit yet. Maybe Brathwaite gets Tampa at home on the 23rd (the second night of a back-to-back)?

Personally, I agree with this. They will have played Detroit the night before and will need a rested goalie to play the next day.
Sooner or later, Freddy has to get a game in; I would prefer that it would be at home fairly early in the season to make him comfortable playing behind the team and before our crowd. The Chicago game to me seemed on first thought to be an ideal time, but when you've got a goalie like Denis playing well, you continue to play him until the first convenient opportunity to rest him comes along, like the first back-to-back of the season.

I agree. Columbus needs to throw all their eggs in a basket to ensure they beat these struggling teams. I would be more inclined to bench Denis against Teams that I feel we would struggle against. It's a defeatist attitude but it can be effective. It's an interesting battle between giving up and picking your spots.
And just so you don't get mad, I would wish Nashville to employ this strategy. We probably aren't going to beat Detroit at Detroit. It's not a game we are supposed to win, so I would rather Vokoun play against a Calgary to ensure we have the maximum chance of beating them rather than giving Detroit a valiant effort.

"we"?
JF Omalycat 10-14-2003, 12:07 PM "we"?
Another one turns to the dark side......:)
Samkow 10-14-2003, 12:30 PM Start him against Nashville(not a Super Hot Offensive Team) and get him into a start-once-every-5-Games Pattern.

Hey, I cheer for you guys more often than not. Shouldn't have said we though. Should have used this word instead 'you losers'...;)

LOL, you can tell I was intending on using the word loser (in pure jest, mind you) but realized in the context of the sentence, it didn't make sense. So I added 'you' in front. Sadly, I failed to change the description.

Yadda yadda yadda... :joker:
Loser ;)
3mta3 10-15-2003, 03:34 AM Nashville won against Detroit last season. Also tied one. 3 points from division rivals.
Columbus tied one and lost the rest. 1 point from division rivals.
Now to help maintain the careful balance of a thread involving a Nashville fan I think this is the part where we talk about our games being closer than theirs, how we got robbed when Shanny lost a few teeth, how it was Ray Whitney's fault for not playing defense and how their defensemen still use pacifiers in the penalty box and so on and so forth, no?
neelynugs 10-16-2003, 03:01 AM any news on freddie for tonight v. chicago?

They do well at writing what MacLean tells them to write. It's when they are on their own for facts and stats that it gets dicey.
