Spezza's goals

The interesting thing is that both of his goals weren't fancy by any stretch of the imagination. Its encouraging to see that he will score "garbage" goals as well as put on some highlight reel stuff. I'm not articulating what I'm trying to say, but basically its nice to know we have a future superstar who will score any way whatsoever.

I wouldn't call either one garbage.

Especially the one against Hasek. He had Hasek beat with the fake.

Pretty good poise for a 20 year old.

I didn't mean garbage. What I meant was "not so pretty". In other words, he doesn't try to make his goals look nice, but rather just tries to get it in the net.

Spezza is finally getting it. Simplifying his game. Not garbage goals but just no-nonsense goals. No-nonsense plays is what makes you successful in this league.

Fancy plays are fun. But fancy plays all the time lead to a Tim Connolly-like (so far) career most of the time. You gotta know when to surprise the opposition but you can't be a human highlight reel all the time.

Good for Spezza!

Hey, Spezza's goal against Hasek was #2 in the top ten plays on TSN, so it had to atleast be 'fancy' to deem such honor.

I think I gather what you're saying; It is excellent to see Spezza capitalizing on opportunities other than the ones he's created himself. I for one think it serves as a good indication of how he has played so far. I'm just waiting for the first "Spezza night". You guys/gals know what I'm talking about - something along the lines of the "Hossa night" where he brought the quad out against Atlanta. Or the "Havlat night" where he went 2 and 2 for 4 pts against Tampa (the trick vs. Dallas was fun, but we lost). I feel safe saying that I think we'll see a Spezza night more sooner than later, I can just feel it.

My favorite Spezz play so far was his assist on Alfie's goal. Working the puck from the boards against two Habs, he gently wrists the puck from traffic to an open Alfie, who puts it five-hole on Theodore.

He's a reason to tune into hockey.
