I miss the rats

I hate how the league seems to try and kill off anything that gives the game character and balls(i.e. fighting, bench clearing brawls, and to some extent physical play). The rat throwing tradition was one of those things that just gave the Florida Panther franchise some character of its own, much like the Octopus tradition except I know it was a pain in the arse to clean up thousands of rats, but hey i loved to watch the goalies hide under their nets. Take out the instigator and bring back the rats!

The one problem with the rat is there were hundreds of them, unlike the Red Wings and their octupi. And the rats were thrown out after every freakin goal (which actually made the team money, as they'd collect them and resell them out on the concourse right afterwards), as opposed to the occasional octupus bein thrown out in Detroit (and they got more common closer to playoff time, but there still weren't hundreds), which caused lengthy delay of games, which in turn caused problems for tv. At times, other things were also thrown out with the rats, which could have hurt the players. As fun as it was, and as nice as it'd be to have this as a regular part of the tradition, its end result really does more damage than help this team (except the financial aspect).

Yoou could always bring a dead real thing and toss it out like an octupus to open the season then again too.

The rats were really a Miami Arena, thing. Let them go...

Still, I miss them too...it's part of the charm that drew me to the Panthers the year I became a hockey fan.

There were a few rats thrown at the (NCRC) ODC the first year, but it just didn't seem the same.

I miss them and still toss one around at home durning away games once and awhile. :D
