So which is it?

Gleason shows his stuff and Cech revenges his playoff loss?
They lead the Kings.

Smoke returns to plunder the Staples?
He poisons our opening night.

Ottawa outclasses us and are healthy?
No way we beat this pundit picked SCF team from the east.

We match up well with their Euro style?
The MASH unit holds on for the victory.

The game might be a great one.

i doubt any game the Kings play this season will rank as "great" --- but it could be a good one.

With Ottawa going with Prusek in the nets, we are clearly being told that the Kings are one of the "weak sisters" in the league, and hopefully they can take advantage of that.

Listening to Roy Malaucher(sp?) (Pres. of Senators) on Jim Rome right now. Very interesting stuff he talked about: solvency of the league, the labor dispute, Dan Snyder, the Dux recent problems, improving the game, fielded some phone calls.

Most of the usual lines...

Half the teams are failing, the CBA must be fixed to "allow each team the opportunity to have a level playing field". Also, the players have the choice to either keep things as they are but have only 12 teams or fix the CBA to reduce costs. Responded to the "why can't the owners just spend wisely" argument by stating there is nothing one owner can do to make sure that another owner spends prudently. Said that there is no way the players will accept a salary cap (I assume he means a hard cap) but that the players have been more willing to listen to ways to fix the CBA.

I'm trying to remember some other stuff, if I do I will post it. He was on for a full hour.

I was suprised at how little it took to upset Ram. I mean, that caller was a kook but he sure fired Roy up. I think it is a shame when even the truly class acts around the league insist on towing the company line and refuse to break ranks and talk about what is really going on and what they truly think needs to happen in order to fix the game. It is just bus as usual stuff.

Gleason will be the number 1 star of the game.

i read somewhere that brown is playing on the top line w/ ziggy and stumps? seeing as i have all 3 on my keeper squad i'd really like to know if this is the case.

I don't think it will be the case. Brown played in Frolov's place on that line for the first 50 minutes of last game. It was intended as a wake up call to Frolov. I don't think Brown will play with them regularly, unless of course Frolov doesn't the message

EDIT: Jim Fox just announced Brown is playing with Stumpel and Palffy

Ugh.

This has been about the worst 10 minutes of hockey I have seen in a long time.

Do I hate that horrible call on Lappy for "elbowing". Just gruesome. It's the difference in the game right now.

Hope the two man ties it.

Dustin got boned on his goal... he didn't touch the puck when he waved at it... I hope that doesn't hurt the team 3:30 left 4-3 LA

Terrific game so far outside of the horrid first 10 minutes.

Get a veteran, physical defenseman and this team can challenge for the Cup.

what a game. that is HUGE for us. bigger than huge. gigantor.

basically everyone played well, with a few exceptions: i didn't think chechmanek was spectacular, and zizka and holland both made me cringe a few times.
pirnes and gleason played well, as far as i saw, but i hardly saw them in the third.

power play looked great. proof that you just cannot shoot too much.

i'll write more when i calm down. i'm still pretty pumped up.

Kings deserved to win. That was one sloppy game, IMO. Reffing was pretty bad on both sides.

I sure missed Patty Lalime

The Kings showed alot of character tonight being able to overcome their early undisciplined style of play to win against one of the best teams in the NHL. :handclap:

Imagine would could have been if they would have played defense at the end of the Detroit game?

That last period was the best 20 minutes of hockey I've seen this team play in a long time. They didn't play back on their heels and took it to Ottawa, none stop and with tremendous speed.

The loss of Matty and Miller is definitely showing itself in our penalty kills. Yikes! If we don't get them back soon teams are going to be scoring none stop on the powerplay against us. Knowing that, we've got to get this team to stop taking dumb penalties.

If this team gets Allison and Deadmarsh back healthy by Christmas, this team is a contender.

We are 1 awful call in Detroit away from a 4-0 start.

And Willie, the physical d-man you are talking about, is Tim Gleason. He may not be a veteran, but he is sure playing like one.

If this team plays this well without our 2 best forwards and our 2 best defensemen then just imagine how much the Kings could dominate other teams with a healthy club............The thought just gives me goosebumps.

You can't blame Cechmanek for any of those goals.

agree 100% john.

just got back from the game and had a great time. few observations...i'm with agentfouser, evertime zizka is on the ice i cringe...he got beat a couple of times and was out of position many times...i don't know how many times i singled him out loud...holland i think is a much better defenseman though i think he looks overwhelmed out there sometimes. but he did well. modry seems to still get beat alot on defense but the ottawa never capitalized on it. he did push the puck up ice and manned the blueline on the PP pretty well.

kings need to stay out of the penalty box...specially the young guys (zizka and sim)...they're no good on the PK unless they get miller and norstrom back...

great game to come back from a 2 goal deficit. i was pumped...i think if lalime would have started instead of prusek, the outcome could have been different...but a win is a win is a win...kings are in 1st place...it feels good...frolov's wrap around is back baby!

it wasn't really the goals that i was nagging about. i know its nitpicking, but he looked a bit shaky at times. i know that we were all warned about his antics, and i know that he got the job done in the end, which is really all that matters, but i thought he got spectacualrly lucky in a number of instances.

against popular opinion, i think cechmanek had a weak game. i was scared everytime the puck came near him and he should have at least caught one or 2 of those goals. i'm not a big fan of cechmanek and his soccer goalie style, so he's not one i trust.

I think there was one bad goal (the 2nd) but its really hard to make it a bad goal. he was screened...there were 2 sens in front of him at the time. the first and last goals he didn't really have a chance...the first being a breakaway and the last one with chara converted a centering pass. i'd say he was just ordinary but not terrible.
