Prospect Planned Update

Kevin Forbes

It's probably not to sensible to do this, but it's the beginning of the season and I got the hockey bug a-biting. School can be put slighty aside...
So I'm going to use this time until the quartermark of the season to do a big update on the Ducks section of Hockey's Future. I plan on re-writing and revising as many prospects as I can find information for and finishing it off with a major re-ranking. Notice the cool little table for stats now, it looks pretty but it's hard to maintain. Anyway, I hope I can suceed in the task I set out for me and have it all done by the quartermark of the season (end of November)

Any ideas, suggestions, places where I could find further information and potential rankings would be appreciated.

Updated so far:
Joffrey Lupul (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect.php?pid=2988)
Ryan Getzlaf (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect.php?pid=2635)

You might want to update/edit Getzlaf's bio in his talent analysis.... i think you said something other than "great shot"

Talent Analysis
Getzlaf is a underrated physical forward with a multitude of offensive and defensive skills. He's a sturdy skater with a powerful **** and is a force in traffic. He plays a smart, puck-possesion game and is determined to do most anything to win.

Corey Perry (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect.php?pid=3376)
Chris Kunitz (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect.php?pid=3522)

I guess that previous error of mine was a Freudian slip (or ****...)
Glad someone's reading them to keep me out of trouble

Joffrey Lupul has been moved to the Graduated List, any ideas for the new ranking? Top Prospect isn't going to be Bryz IMO

Pwnasaurus

I would assume Getzlaf would be #1 now after that camp. After that...some combination of Bryz/Pop/Perry/Kunitz would be my top 5...with Brent right there somewhere

Updated:
Igor Pohanka (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect.php?pid=1849)
Joel Stepp (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect.php?pid=1929)

Also, Saunders, O'Brien and who else is in the top Prospects?
I was thinking Ferhi (but I haven't done enought scouting on him to be sure) or Hynes or Vihko

Updated it to what I think?
comments? I'm not sure, about Saunders or Hynes or Lee...

good for him!
shame what happened between him and the organization
also he's no longer a prospect regardless

Drop Rybin from the top 20, he'll never play in the NHL.

Bryzgalov should stay as #2 on the list.
Getzlaf is our new number 1 prospect. :handclap:
3-5 popovic,brent,Parenteau as 5 instead of Kunitz
I like Perry ahead of Kunitz as well
Perry 6
Kunitz 7
Martennson deserves some top 10 love...definetly more valuable to our organization right now than Korsunov.
Gornick hasnt had an AHL game this year so he might not be top 20 worthy.
I like Brookbank as a top 20, with Obrien and Saunders. 3 physical defensmen for our top 20.
Id definetly have Brookbank top 20 before Id have Ferhi, Vihko or Rybin. Rybin should be other notable for sure.

Getzlaf 2 goals and an assist tonight in 6-4 win for his WHL team.

If we don't have a single offensive player ranked higher than a 7 then we have to change the strength of "top end talent"

He should be ranked higher than perry thats for sure. I mean Getzlaf is almost a lock to make the team next year, you can't say the same for Perry.

I will be doing a re-ranking, as well as a new top 20 and also updating the STR and WEAK when the prospect profile update is finished

I have the top 20 basically done now, same with the re-rank, but will hold off until after I am done with the profile

Getzlaf is very talented but just so you know Corey Perry is absolutly on fire right now. He was just named OHL played of the week after scoring 9 points in 3 games last week and he now leads the entire OHL in scoring with 25 points in 14 games. He is carrying the load on the best offensive team in the OHL right now, London has scored 71 goals in their first 14 games, the second best offensive team in the league has scored 54 goals.

Vladimir Korsunov (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect.php?pid=2249)
Viktor Wallin (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect.php?pid=55)

As always, I'm a little wary of European predictions, because they play their youngsters quite different then North America does. Wallin is on a Swe-2 team and has been for a year now, but I don't know if that is a relfection of his play, or just a team he ended up on. Korsunov is still a solid guy, but I'm having my doubts we'll ever see him on this side of the ocean.

In other prospect news, Corey Perry had a hat trick lask night. :handclap: He currently leads the OHL in scoring with 29 points

Wallin stayed with the team when it was dropped from the SEL to the second tier league. It's not like the NHL-AHL relation, teams move up and down. But if Wallin had drawn any interest around the SEL he would be there I guess...

I'm pretty sure Murray will give Korsunov a look at some point.

Great job. I'm just wondering on Stepp's ranking, 8 seems too high for him. I'd have him maybe 14 or 15. Just curious...

Kevin Forbes
11-24-2003, 12:18 PM
There should be a article up soon about it, I sent it in and just waiting for it to be posted.
As for Stepp, I think he has been impressive so far and I think the prediction of him being a player similar to John Madden is not far off. He has had a game-winner and a two-goal game in the AHL. I think he is probably a year or two away from being a third liner for Anaheim. Plus I see Stepp as more of a Murray type player then say Martensson, so I think that will benefit his NHL career.
Basically, I wouldn't chose any player for any other player lower then him on the list.

Saunders and O'Brien are low because, there are quite a few players similar to them on the team and in the system. Hard-hitting, defensive defenseman. Also, they seemed to come out of no where for Training Camp, and I'm a little wary of that. I hope to do an top 20 update at the All-Star break, so we'll see how it goes then.
To be honest, Pohanka was going to be lower, but then he had a 3 assist night with San Diego. The thing with Pohanka is that he has the talent, and he has proven he has that talent, so I'm hoping the 3 point game was an indication that he may have turned the corner. He could continue to fall, if he doesn't improve.
