Thoughts on the Ottawa game

With Norstrom, Miller or a D-man with any grit, It might have been a shutout. Zizka tried to check Alfredsson on the first goal and ended up flat on his face. Alfy had a clear break to the net.

The second goal, no one even tried to move Chara. Roman was beyond screened.

The third goal, Chara was camped in front of the net, once again no one tried to move him. He easily tapped in that pass.

No of these goals were Roman's fault. Our PK is albsoluely brutal. Zizka needs to go back down, Norstrom is back in lineup vs the Bruins.

Our PP is clicking. Other than the first 10 minutes we look great 5 on 5. But the PK is the achilles heel of this team.

It was also a very smart move by Murray not to play Avery late in the game

For a team missing Deadmarsh, Allison, Nortstrom and Miller. (Other than the first 10 minutes) We really played a great game

Just got home from the game and I agree with you that Check wasn't the blame on the goals. He didn't make THE BIG saves tonite but he was good enough to win the game without a doubt.

Not only was Zizka to blame for the first goal but did you see how bad our PK units were just standing around flat footed out there? It was painful to watch. If they keep that up we are going to give up a ton of PP goals this year. Truly horrible. Of course, it does keep me pounding on my "Boxy can't do the job so send him down and bring in someone who can" soapbox. My seats are just above where Brown "allegedly" (to quote Star Jones) knocked the puck out of the air on his goal. He missed it by a good foot and even then the puck had hit the ice and he had shot well before the ref picked up his wistle. I know that the whistle doesn't have to blow to wave off the goal but it sure looked like the idiot was waiting for the outcome to see how he wanted to call the play. The officiating was god awful tonite but it was for both teams so I guess it works itself out.

I also thought that Frolov had a really good game. He played so well in the nuetral zone that he was easily the best transistion player out there tonite for both teams. His goal was another one of his wrap around specials but heck, whatever goes in is all that matters right now. Once we get Ally and Deader back it will spread out the other teams D more and give the ZSF line some more room and I think that Fro will start really pounding in the points.

A decent effort by the Kings but they kind of stole one tonite. It is going to take a much better effort to keep winning. Still, way to go Kings!

Replay showed that the Ref called what he THOUGHT he saw.... but Brown never touched it with a high stick...

While one Dusty was screwing his team at Wrigley.... he other one got screwed in LA. :joker:

one more note on the ottawa game...the kings were really good on the forecheck. i think all 4 lines had some success pinning the puck in the offensive zone.

looking forward to doing the same to the big bad bruins...

Impressions-

I've seen Smoke standing behind guys who just scored on the powerplay before (Luc)...now the full effects of that trade are still to be determined but BS was a no show last night.

I don't care what some people say Holland has been holding down his position very well. This is the first extended play he's gotten at this level and will acclimatise to the faster play, thereby getting better. He's playing with a rookie, they are both doing very well.

The game was called diferently from last year but the calls were consistant. I was really worried after that first period. Let's hope that the crew to crew consistency is there this year. It must be tough to play every night when you don't know what will and what will not be a penalty.

Palffy is lights out! Expect him to start to get plenty of attention in the next tussel.

It's just a matter of time before Brown makes his mark on the scoreboard. The guy has some kind of magic for the game. Some guys just look like champions. We are so lucky he fell to us.

Ziska is taking some really big hits for the Alfredson goal but let's remember he was the only guy close enough Alfie to even try to stop him. He got worked but he's not he first guy Alfie has worked or the last. In the pregame AM talked about not getting caught flatfooted at the blueline when the Sens attack, and that's exactly what happened-to the team, not just Zizka.

It was a testament last night to the '68 Czechoslovakian defeat of the Russian Olympic team last night. Man were there some talented players out there that have come out of that system. It was almost an all-star game for eastern euro hockey. Wonder if it's the Game of the Week over there. Should be.

Send down Zizka, bring up Grebs!

i agree but grebs isn't ready yet... but then again neither is zizka.

i totally concur with guz's post... good overall evaluation.

the forechecking was great. that's the key to beating any team with a transition game like ottawa has. you've gotta keep those teams from changing lines as often as you can. stumpel, belanger, klatt, and frolov (allison as well) all play the excellent puck control game. which is more vital than super duper deluxe offensive firepower come playoff time. particularly late in the game during the later rounds.
