No one put it up, so I did.
GDT - Chicago at Columbus - 10-163mta3 10-16-2003, 05:02 AM No one put it up, so I did. KeithBWhittington 10-16-2003, 05:12 AM No one put it up, so I did. Nice.... first things first then...anybody with predictions? With Wright, Westcott and Leto out for the Jackets and Zhamnov out for Chicago, I'll still say jackets win it 3-1 with Columbus goals from Vyborny in the first, Pirjeta in the first and Cassels in the third, lone Chicago goal by Steve Sullivan in the second period. 3mta3 10-16-2003, 05:16 AM If VandenBussche is in the lineup tonight, and I think he will be, I predict TWO fighting majors. I'm expecting an old-school, ugly, Norris division matchup tonight. KallioWeHardlyKnewYe 10-16-2003, 05:39 AM The first game I'm attending this year! I'm bringing my wife, which is good news. Last year, CBJ were 5-1-1 when I bring her and 1-3-1 when I take a drinking buddy. Though the one loss my wife saw last year was the infamous Blackhawk blowout/Theo strip club game. I'm bad luck with predictions, so I'll refrain from specifics. I will say I think Chicago is a very beatable this year and I like the CBJs chances. I'll be very disappointed if they don't collect any points from this game, especially after the way they've played in the last two. Matt Foley* 10-16-2003, 06:36 AM This one will be my first game to attend this season, as well. I'm expecting Columbus to come out playing solidly and Chicago starting a little flat, considering their last game was on Sunday, Zhamnov is out, and Daze is not 100% (back problems). I predict a quick 2-0 Jackets lead in the first, followed by some chippy play the rest of the way. A 3-1 or 4-1 Jackets win sounds about right. Jovavic 10-16-2003, 07:48 AM Could the Jackets actually play well for three games in a row? I'm guessing no and the game will end in a 3-3 tie. Much hard hitting and fighting abound. This game scares me---I remember the Chicago game last year, w/the CBJ on a six-game point streak and Chi. coming in having played the night before. The CBJ buzzed Chi. all first period, but Chi. scored a couple of flukies and never let up. Think it ended 7-1 Hawks. Start of the downfall, IMO. I agree, though. W/Zhamnov out, the Hawks are very beatable, and I will also be disappointed if the CBJ don't come away with points from this one. Edit: I think Sandy/Andy/Vibes have a big game, and Spats always seems to score against his old team. jacketracket* 10-16-2003, 10:21 AM Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but this is only the second time the CBJ have been over .500, and a W tonight would put them 2 over .500 for the first time in franchise history. Let's go, Jackets!! HAWKSWINHAWKSWIN 10-16-2003, 10:45 AM Even with Zhamnov, the Hawks are at best suspect this year. That being said, and going with my head, and not heart, I would say Hawks 2 Jackets 4 (Rick Nash 2 pt night) KallioWeHardlyKnewYe 10-16-2003, 11:19 AM Even with Zhamnov, the Hawks are at best suspect this year. That being said, and going with my head, and not heart, I would say Hawks 2 Jackets 4 (Rick Nash 2 pt night) i love the hawks young talent, but w/o zhamnov and possibly daze, i think the hawks will have it tough (as long as the CBJ stick to this new defensive mentality). we'll see. JF Omalycat 10-16-2003, 11:27 AM Columbus 4-1, with goals from Sanderson, Vyborny, Klesla, and Marchant. If this happens, I'm buying a lottery ticket tommorow.:) Here's to a great game! purecracka 10-16-2003, 02:15 PM right now it is 8 oclock in the morning here in the far east and I can read all your posts untill classes start at 9. my prodiction a 3-2 win in overtime. Jackets wont look as impressive this game as they did in the last two. but a wins a win Is Denis between the pipes today? Its nice to see that he has yet to see 30 shots on goal for a game yet. A rested Denis that sees only 25 shots a game looks better than a tired Denis that sees 38 shots a game. How about that :D 3mta3 10-16-2003, 02:48 PM Thoughts after one period of scoreless play: I hope Thibault isn't that tough all night. He's made some great saves. JLGP needs to shake some rust off. He threw a board rattling hit but he can't pass so far and sure can't take a pass. If his play is the same in the second I say we double shift Ling in the third. Cassels and Marchant are this close to a great night. Same with Vyborny - so many dekes in so little time and space. Nash looks great (that hit was WICKED) and a little mean. The defense need to shape up though. I've seen each pairing give the puck away in that period just trying to pass back and forth. No pressure on them just OOPS a giveaway. Denis is looking good. The Hawks are working hard out there and really trying to play a good game. I thought for sure they'd try to muck it up - especially without Daze and Zhamnov - but they're playing decent hockey. Jovavic 10-16-2003, 02:50 PM Just as I figured, a rather boring game with some slight spikes of offense. Jovavic 10-16-2003, 03:02 PM Go Nash, 1-0. Cassels didn't look too hot though. Put Espen with Sanderson on the first line. Jovavic 10-16-2003, 03:14 PM Crap, looks like Richardson was flexing his leg after stopping a shot. Jovavic 10-16-2003, 03:17 PM Good, Richardson is out there on the PK. Weren't more people supposed to be in this thread talking about the game? I don't mind talking to myself and boosting my post count :joker: Jovavic 10-16-2003, 03:20 PM These refs blow. Sanderson comes busting down the slot and gets tripped midshot. Columbus is just taking the Hawks by the throat in this period, but only has one goal to show for it. Could easily be 4-0 by now, but T-Bo is hanging tought in there. Jovavic 10-16-2003, 03:32 PM Marchant on the PP. Sandy pasts Whitney on the all time point list on the CBJ with another assist. End of 2. 2-0 good guys. They need to score on ES though. 3mta3 10-16-2003, 03:49 PM Sandy looks great. The power play was awesome and the play of the 4th was great that got them that power play. Shelley looked reluctant to pass the puck to JLGP a few times so JLGP made it happen without the puck. Great work. Klesla is doing a lot better. More and more improvement. Lots of traffic in front of the net. I like it. Nash is a stud. I'm scared to death about the injuries though. Now Cassels... ouch. Jovavic 10-16-2003, 03:50 PM Denis takes a shot in the mask. Will the close calls ever end? Jovavic 10-16-2003, 03:54 PM Denis looks no worse for the wear, though. The fourth line has looked good so far. Shelley is showing that he can do other things besides fighting. He needs to keep it up. Jovavic 10-16-2003, 03:55 PM The "new" regular jerseys looks great, no *** bug. Jovavic 10-16-2003, 04:04 PM Goal by the Hawks, but the CBJ go on the PP. Bell does the Tyler Special, aka a minor penalty along with a unsportsmanlike for running his mouth and slamming the door. Jovavic 10-16-2003, 04:06 PM Doug needs to wake these bums up, they are playing like azz in the third. 3mta3 10-16-2003, 04:28 PM That was a solid effort from the boys. Down 4 players we manage to hang on through a third where guys had to be worn down. Good thing our camp was so grueling, eh? Again, Nash plays like a seasoned pro. Things get tight, he goads someone into a penalty. I can see where a season playing on a line with Tyler is good for a kid. He played like a man out there tonight. Ice water in his veins and total confidence. Lachance was great as well. I loved it when he jumped into that play. He played an excellent 3 pairing game on the ice for us. Speaking of pinching in, the defense chose their spots really well. Only two odd man rushes I can recall. Tuomo Ruutu looked great until he broke his stick and tried a Mortal Combat spinning back elbow move. He should have been whistled for that one. Sullivan had some good chances as well. That little guy is crafty and elusive. It'll be nice to get on the road. We've lost (at least) one player in each home win, so we need to get out of Dodge before we're down to dressing the stick boy. JF Omalycat 10-16-2003, 04:30 PM Whew!!! The last three minutes had me worried. Any word on Cassels?? I didn't hear it all. Great commentary, Oz!!!:yo: Jovavic 10-16-2003, 04:39 PM Saw that Cassels has a bruised back. I don't think he has a history of back injuries, so hopefully he'll be back soon. Ask the Hawks how having stars with back injuries is working out. KeithBWhittington 10-16-2003, 04:58 PM a few notes (once again, I was stuck at work and just caught the last five mins) but saw bits and pieces and at work and listened to most of the game. Thibault was an animal tonight, get this guy some respectable defense. McLean looked real good in place of "Archie" (Zhamnov) Too bad about Cass, man I can only imagine who will go down next game?? :dunno: Nash and Marchant are on pace to have monster years. Pirjeta and Lachance played great defensive games towards the end of the third. Good win, would be much sweeter had Cass not gone down  jacketracket* 10-16-2003, 05:54 PM Nice to see MD at the top of the league in goalie stats!! :handclap: SmokeyClause 10-16-2003, 06:24 PM Congrats on the win guys! Here's to putting Chicago where they belong: At the bottom of the Central. TBJF 10-17-2003, 01:22 AM This win was earned with character and defensive cohesiveness! And when was the last time anyblody said that about a Jackets' win? Here's hoping it's a true omen. But WTF is up with the injuries? I know they're a part of the game, but four regulars hurt in the span of three games is U-G-L-Y. Nothing to be done about it, I guess. At least we have some semblance of depth in everything except top-line scoring. This looked like a grubby little win on the ice, but in a few months it may look huge in the standings! TBJF 10-17-2003, 01:28 AM Congrats on the win guys! And right back at ya for the Preds' spanking of the Blues! But Legwand needs to turn it up - only one assist and even in a 4-1 win? What's up with that? (Guess who has Legwand in a fantasy league....) Ask him to do better, please? Here's to the new powerhouses of the West, Columbus and Nashville!! Matt Foley* 10-17-2003, 03:11 AM I give the Hawks credit - they gave it their best, despite being undermanned. They definitely didn't come out flat. Thibeault not only played well, but also got some breaks, like that shot in the first that hit off the inside of the post and came back out. We should have had at least four goals last night. Marchant is worth every penny we spent on him, and then some. He adds so many things to this team that we needed so much. He and Nash are a great combination because his speed forces the opponent to play honest defense and not focus on Nash, which creates some great scoring opportunities for us. Last year, teams were bunching up their defenses against Nash as he came up the ice because they didn't have to worry about his teammates. Props to Pirjeta and Shelley - they played well, also. They both seem to have improved over last season. With Nash and Pirjeta, we now have two guys who are effective down low and can maintain puck possession while being harrassed by defenders. KallioWeHardlyKnewYe 10-17-2003, 04:21 AM I know people have said this already, but THAT was a game they would have lost in the past. I'm tempering my excitement becasue I know it is early, but the team really seems to be clicking. Here's hoping Cassels isn't out for any period of time. If he is, I'm sure Espen will move to the first line, but what then? I'm thinking McDonnell or MacLean (hey, a McLean worked for Chicago?). 3rd line of Ling-Pirjeta-McDonnell. Nash looks awesome. Marchant looks great. I'm so tempted to get on a board and toss that Marchant thing in people's faces, but again, I'm trying to not jump the gun. Recall Pronger These should be how they look against Nashville Brathwaite Denis Sydor-Walser/Westcott/Klesla Richardson-Spacek Lachance-Walser/Westcott/Klesla Sanderson-Knutsen-Vyborny Nash-Marchant-Nedorost Prijeta-Fritchie-Ling Shelley-Pronger-Grand-Pierrie 3mta3 10-17-2003, 05:23 AM Recall Pronger Or move Espen to center and recall a wing. And Espo has looked great so far and would only look better beside Sandy and Vyborny. :handclap: Matt Foley* 10-17-2003, 08:12 AM I'm not going to be able to watch the game against the Preds tomorrow night as I will be in Baltimore on a work-related project. The only good news is that my work should be done by early evening tomorrow, so I'll have the time after dinner to go online via my laptop and follow the game that way.
