Time to re-establish home ice as an unfriendly place for opponents all over again.
GDT: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. New Jersey Devils @ 7:30 pm EST - 10/16Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 02:31 PM Time to re-establish home ice as an unfriendly place for opponents all over again. ratsgirl 10-16-2003, 02:32 PM the nhl.com lineup has albelin in and hale out. not sure how i feel about that. Vinnie 10-16-2003, 02:35 PM the nhl.com lineup has albelin in and hale out. not sure how i feel about that. They seem pretty committed to Martin...also Rupp has taken Larionov's spot tonight. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 02:40 PM Nice ceremony so far. Fans are loving this. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 02:54 PM Surprised a bit to see Reichel in the lineup for the Leafs after what happened the other night. Albelin and Martin paired up early on. ratsgirl 10-16-2003, 02:57 PM pandolfo! who would have thought. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 02:57 PM Jay Pandolfo scores off a Rafalski feed. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 02:59 PM First time in 3 games the Devils have scored a goal without Niedermayer on the ice. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 03:05 PM Devils PP made the Leafs penalty killers look absolutely atrocious there. Should be 2-0 Devils with Brylin putting one in the side. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 03:08 PM Wonder how Domi is going to react to all the rumors in the Toronto papers about his GM shopping him around the league. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 03:13 PM Nice work by Brodeur on Kaberle. Leafs have a previously similar Tommy Albelin situation of their own with Karel Pilar hoping to get a contract with the team still. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 03:19 PM Berglund with some Samsonov skating skills for a few moments before he wiped out and lost the puck. lol Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 03:25 PM Scoring Summary 1st Period New Jersey 4:48, Jay Pandolfo 1 (Brian Rafalski) Shots on Goal NJ 15 Tor 3 Faceoffs NJ Won 7 Lost 8 Tor Won 8 Lost 7 PP NJ 0 for 2 Tor 0 for 1 Shots on goal: Elias and Rafalksi leading the team with 3 shots apiece. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 03:27 PM Burns should address the too many men on the ice penalty between periods. 2 of them in 3 games now. NHL is cracking down on this more then ever. ratsgirl 10-16-2003, 03:34 PM seems to me rafalski's having a great start to the season..he's already got 4 pts in 2 1/3 games.. :handclap: (just trying to help you out here Unthinkable :D--since no one else wants to say anything--is anyone else watching the game?) Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 03:39 PM Thanks Ratsgirl! Stevens was hit pretty good from behind by Sundin after the Brodeur save on Kaberle. If we get a 2 or 3 goal lead, I imagine we'll see some payback for it. ratsgirl 10-16-2003, 03:41 PM marty looks very good so far. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 03:49 PM marty looks very good so far. Yeah he does. Those new pads look sharp on him. Elias looks pretty focused tonight also. I'm really not liking the road jersey's at home switch though. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 03:51 PM Good to see Rupp doing whats needed out there along the boards. Couple decent hits so far from him. Rasmussen looking alright tonight. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 03:53 PM Antropov banged home a rebound between the post and Brodeur's skate. ratsgirl 10-16-2003, 03:54 PM ugh, i missed it. my husband the rangers fan was flipping channels. hehe--dunham is saving the rangers so far. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 03:58 PM Gionta took a wicked hit in front of Belfour there. Holy smokes. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 04:02 PM Niedermayer with some bad luck in the last 4 minutes of this game. His clearing attempt hit Rupp and went right to Darcy Tucker for the quick blast. Nieds had a shot blocked before this and was unable to bury a point blank rush on Belfour. Vinnie 10-16-2003, 04:05 PM Bleh. I feared this would happen. Belfour owned the Devils last year. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 04:12 PM Scoring Summary 1st Period New Jersey 4:48, Jay Pandolfo 1 (Brian Rafalski) 2nd Period Toronto 10:40, Nik Antropov 2 (Tom Fitzgerald, Ken Klee) Toronto 16:46, Darcy Tucker 1 (Matt Stajan) Shots on goal NJ 6 Tor 10 Faceoffs NJ Won 11 Lost 22 Tor Won 22 Lost 11 PP NJ 0 for 3 Tor 0 for 1 Elias and Friesen with 4 shots apiece. Daneyko coming up next for an interview. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 04:55 PM 2 seconds left in regulation right after Burns called timeout. Looked like Brylin was the man with a heads up play by Rafalski. Elias was right there in front of Belfour. ratsgirl 10-16-2003, 04:57 PM 2 seconds left in regulation right after Burns called timeout. Looked like Elias was the man with a heads up play by Rafalksi. i did not see this happening...way to go rafalski!! Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 05:01 PM Langs had to have had 4 good shots on net on that last play. Gionta with a good rush before it. Unthinkable 10-16-2003, 05:03 PM Sweet overtime. Devils looked great in the extra period. Game ends in a 2-2 tie. ratsgirl 10-16-2003, 05:04 PM wow! now that was a hockey game :D Guttersnipe 10-16-2003, 07:58 PM I have to say I'm starting to not like Marshall. In the playoffs he was enough of a physical force to make oppposing players focus on him. But he isn't playing with an intensity now. If he's just going to stand there while the opposing team swarms around Elias and beats up on Gomer, he's useless. Tbg1515 10-16-2003, 08:03 PM What a game from Start to finish, a little sluggish in the second. But the ceromony was great, I actually got choked up and tears in my eyes i was so happy....But then i got home and had to watch that Boston Masacre the Red Sox were so mismanaged, Grady Litttle is a moron.....But anyways its hockey season, Go Devils!!!!!!!! Why was Martin in the lineup and not Hale or Brown dennisjs 10-16-2003, 09:11 PM What a game from Start to finish, a little sluggish in the second. Why was Martin in the lineup and not Hale or Brown Yankees rule! Thank you Aaron Boone, you tool. NJDevils#4 10-17-2003, 06:47 AM Devils score with 2 seconds left to force a tie and Boone jacks one to win in extra innings. Awesome night for sports in NY/NJ. BTW, Rafalski and Nieds are looking awesome, but god...our first line sucks. Something has to be done about the Elias-Gomez-Marshall line. Its just to mish-mess. No chemistry whatsoever. However, our others line are looking great. Martin and Hale haven't been good, but its to be expected. I thought Albelin was solid also for his 1st game. I realize its early in the season and all, but its starting to look like Larionov's patience with the puck is quickly filtering down to the rest of the team on the PP and at even strength. Even though the Devils didn't get a power play goal last night it still looked pretty damned good compared with what we saw last season. One shift had the team passing the puck one too many times when the shot should have been unloaded from point blank range, but aside from that it was fun to watch and a legitimate offensive threat. Seemed like the brilliant play which Rafalski made with seconds left in regulation was inspired by Larionov's total patience with the puck. There was no panic at all and a gritty killer instinct displayed by Langenbrunner in OT. | ||
