Using Koltsov right?

Is there any talk in Penguins land of turning Koltsov into a defensive specialist? I have never seen the kid play, but from what I hear he probably won't be that big of a scorer. But with his jets and physical play he has the tools and ability to shadow anyone in the league with no problem. Maybe something similar to Fedorov's defensive game, more physical though.
Again, I've never seen him play but defense is something you can teach. I think if he uses those sick skills of his right, it could be a good recipe for a few Selke's down the road.

We'll see.

He has some offensive talent from what I've seen, but that is little.

Maybe he could just become the next Fedorov.:D

I think part of playing him on Mario's line is that he can use his speed to recover.

I think he will be a very good all around player. May not score but he sure can set them up. Didn't he set up 2 goals tonight? The Straka goal was VERY nice. And then during the first, he just kinda decided to skate by 3 defenders and get the shot off. Funny thing was, I was like "Where is Kolstov?" as he didn't do much before it. Then he sets up Straka to tie it.

Koltsov would be SCARY if he put anything together. He is scary now.

Now you all are seeing why Koltsov has been my favorite player for so long. :)

I think he will become a good 2-way 50-60 point player, which is what I expect from Fata, too. Maybe Koltsov can become the pens version of Madden, a player who is a threat to score while also being a good defensive player who can annoy the hell out of you.

So are you planning on changing your handle to Koltsov71 then? :)

On the subject of Koltsov, I would also like to echo the hope that we'd see him on the LW. He set up Straka's goal and had his best scoring chance from Mario whilst he was on the left side of the ice.

Madden?
Why Madden?
Think higher!
Think Pavel Bure without any injuries.
He just needs a better scoring touch that's all...

Bure? Whoa! I think you are a little optimistic about Koltsov. I don't think he will EVER be a 60 goal scorer.

I think, as others are saying, right now they're just trying to tap his offensive potential. And as I've been saying, he's not just going to wake up one day and all of a sudden be a goal scorer. His speed is unreal, and maybe unprecedented. There's no benchmark for him to look at and see how to use speed to create offense, he's just going to have to learn different ways each day to use his wheels to create offense. He might not be a finished product for 3-4 years, but as of right now he's at least going in a forwardly direction (unlike some of our other prospects).

Not sure.. I'm so used to the 47. I really would have preferred just Koltsov, but a Vancouver fan already took it. I'll probably just leave it as is.

I think he has the potential to be much better then Madden, certainly offensively. Madden is nowhere near as fast and Koltsov, well, holy crap..... He seems to have nice playmaking hands from what I saw last night (that being the first full game I have seen from him). He had a nice shot in the 1st that Hasek turned away after he skated right by 3 Wings and let it rip by the left faceoff circle.

Koltsov should be on the LW. Therein ends my preaching.

It is interesting though that we have two players with unreal speed who haven't put it together offensively, learning together - Koltsov and Fata. I haven't seen anything thus far to suggest that they are not putting it together and progressing. Suggesting any type of change in potential, style, or disposition is entirely immaterial at this point. Let's see what happens because so far is so good.

In an interesting comparison on Saturday I was watching the game with a long time Oiler die hard. When he saw Fata and Koltsov play, he immediately chirped in with a comparison to Glenn Anderson. After screaming, "noooooo...not Glenda..." I thought about it and there are some interesting similarities in the games. We shall see - utimately these guys are producing (there's the key word) some great hockey for us - which is absolutely all we can ask for.
