Brooks had the following to say about Igor's practice methods on Sun.
Welcome to Lou's House: Seems that Igor Larionov, the professorial 42-year-old who left Detroit to sign as a free agent with New Jersey, has been telling confidantes that he can't believe how the Devils conduct their practices with serious contact and at game-speed. Further, we're told that Larionov was fuming at Colin White for delivering the practice blow that caught No. 8 unaware and injured him last week, thus preventing the center from playing in the team's home opener.
Sources in Detroit have told Slap Shots that Larionov rarely practiced over the last five years, given and nearly always accepting the option to do off-ice work while his teammates skated. Not that many of his teammates skated all that rigorously, either, between games, with the Red Wings allowing their older players to skate on their own at one end of the ice while the younger guys worked hard at the other.
