I was watching the Rangers and Panthers game on monday and was wondering what it would take to get Lyle Odelien back, he played solid for the Devils and could add leadership, and a big shot on the power play.......Could he be had cheap to be paired off with Hale or Martin

maybe

NJ Gets Odie
FLA Gets Bicek, & Brown

Lyle Odelein was the single worst excuse for a defenseman the Devils ever dressed short of possibly Vlastimil Kroupa. Bringing him back would incite a riot among Devils fans.

They just signed their veteran defenseman; Tommy boy. That's it.

What would it take to get Odelien back here in Jersey? Lou would have to be beyond $hitfaced to make that deal. So without knowing how much liquor Uncle Lou can hold, I'd venture a guess of 8 shots of Yag, 2 Vodka Tonics, and 6 bong hits for ol' Pile Odelien to don the Devils sweater again.

Relax it was just a suggestions,

And actually the single worst defenseman ion devils history was not Lyle Odelein, but in fact it was Phil Usless Housley......That guy sucked, but i was just suggesting defenseman..

Phil played 22 games with the Devils in '96 and had 16 points. If he is the worst defenseman to play with the Devils, then NJ must have had the best defensemen in the history of the game year in and year out. Meanwhile Pile Odelein was good for 23 points, 130 pims, and a +6 per season. Well, there goes that theory.

He wasn't the worst, but he was slow and somewhat of a liability in his own zone. He did have his nights though. Worst D-man ever for Devils? My vote goes to Doug Bodger. I think we had this vote already though.

Sergei Starikov was the worst defenseman to ever don a Devils jersey.
Dave Ellett was bloody Bobby Orr compared to Starikov.

As for Odelein, I understand Tbg1515's thought process. Pat Burns said he wanted another righty shot from the point. However, Odelein is so slow, he wouldn't be a good fit. Lou has always liked Boris Mironov, and if he becomes available, it will be interesting if Lou goes after him; even putting in a waiver claim if Big Bo is sent to the minors.

I was thinking about Steve Staios and Sami Salo, but they would cost too much. We had Staios for a bit, just to expose him in either an expansion draft or waiver draft--I can't remember.

I would love to get Jason Smith back, but we would have to overpay.

BTW, the only reason Odelein is still playing is because of the great talent of Jay Bouwmeester and, as much as I hate to say it, Mike Keenan. Think veteran defenseman with a big, righty shot from the point who could be available because of a youth movement or the fact that he is injury prone. Salo would fall into the latter category. He is rarely healthy and has a rocket for a shot. But Vancouver would want Berglund and I ain't doing that!!! ;)
