Danton

I watched the Oilers-Blues game last night, and Mike Danton looked great. What a complete jackass though. Why couldn't he have just shut his mouth and play while he was here? He positively crushed the defensemen on the forecheck and scored a goal. He was fun to watch. Still, when he comes back to Jersey, I'd love to see Stevens pancake him to the ice and remind him that when The Man tells you to dance, you dance.

I think we all knew he was reasonably talented, but no where near worth that mouth. I hope he rots away in St. Louis.

I was always very excited about Danton, even saw his first NHL goal vs. Columbus in last years home opener. He's a plays hard, fights, hits, scores and skates. However his mouth just got him into trouble. Has he learned to keep it shut? Time will tell, but my guess is... yes! This guy is gonna be a ball of terror vs. NJ. I just hope he doesn't get WAY out of control.

I hope he wins MVP....lol
Danton is a great player and I wish he was still playing for NJ, I honestly hope he has a great carrer and wish him best.

A great player? I wouldn't go out of my way to overstate it. At his best he's a grit/energy guy with average skills. At his worst he's a loud-mouth malcontent who'd rather complain than work. I'm sure a lot of Devils fans would rather he just played hockey for the team, but how much better would this team be with him? Not much, I'd contend... and that's not the mark of a 'great' player.

If Danton had been allowed to carry on with his destructive antics any longer last season this team probably wouldn't have been all on the same page poised for post season success. Joe Murphy did the same thing in Boston. Never a good idea to permit the naysayers and doomsdayers more opportunities to wrecklessly rip apart the fabric of team unity. Danton was more concerned about himself then the team. That kind of thing doesn't work here.
