Skeptical about it being an actual trade or the value of doing it? IkeaMonkey* 10-22-2003, 01:33 PM The Value. Kono for the last few years has been the heart and soul of the effort on the team(other than Kolzig). I know Batagglia isnt much, but Johansson is a hit or miss prospect. So i'm guessing it will all add up when Johansson does or doesnt pan out. Biscuit Bullet 10-22-2003, 01:36 PM hmmm...I'm interested to see who will be captain now. Jagr? Gonchar perhaps? Bondra maybe? Who knows? strungout 10-22-2003, 02:07 PM Awesome trade! Disco Volante 10-22-2003, 02:38 PM I think the Caps really got the bigger end of that deal. Now can you keep lines configuration up-to-date as soon as you have an idea! And euh, don't want to start another thread : what's up with Semin? Latest news...? AllIsFehrNLoveAndWar 10-22-2003, 02:52 PM I think this trade will be good. Stripping the C from KOno would have caused a riot, now they can just give it to Jagr. I kinda of expected such a move. Battaglia might fit in well here, he was pretty good in carolina. strungout 10-22-2003, 02:55 PM I think the Caps really got the bigger end of that deal. Miller/Semin - Zubrus - Jagr Grier - Lang - Bondra Battaglia - Haplern - Willsie Pettinger - Gordon - Sutherby Semin is rotating with Miller it seems...he's played better than Miller but they just cant seem to get Miller in that reserve role yet. I think its mostly bringing Semin along slowly and not just throwing him out there each night. Anyone know if Willsie and Battaglia played together at all last season towards the end and in the playoffs? AllIsFehrNLoveAndWar 10-22-2003, 02:59 PM Im guessing.... Anyone know if Willsie and Battaglia played together at all last season towards the end and in the playoffs? I remember battaglia playing on sakics line and they werent fitting well together...dont remember the 3rd person on that line. [ GSGS ] 10-22-2003, 03:34 PM Great move by Washington IMO. Battaglia should bounce back and Johansson is a very good prospect (top 6 potential). Battaglia could replace Konowalchuk by himself (minus the leadership)... Marshall 10-22-2003, 04:06 PM First thought: A lateral trade, possibly. Kono has not been playing well since last playoffs, at latest, and hasn't been good this year. He has also the captain during one of the biggest voids in leadership in Caps' history. Battaglia, well, I dunno. I'm going to think about this a bit more. I'm still not real sure what I think of the trade. If anything, it's a major-league wake-up call to the long-time Caps on the team. imagine29028 10-22-2003, 04:07 PM I remember battaglia playing on sakics line and they werent fitting well together...dont remember the 3rd person on that line. last year in the playoffs it was Bates, Sakic, Rhino. I think its a good trade for both teams (my 2 fav teams)...the situation with the "C" gets figured out....a new fresh face, who might add a spark to the offense is added. Colorado needed size, and apparently Bates had pissed off Grantato, which means he was on the way out as is. Caps fans....Bates had been playing good this year so far... :handclap: Puckfittsburgh 10-22-2003, 04:38 PM My two farovite teams as well. My opinion on the trade is both teams making out well. The AVS needed a little more depth and they got it with Kono. He will work well with Niko in the cycle game. The reason Kono's numbers have gone down is because Halpern is not the best set up guy in the world. When Kono played with Niko he was getting some decent goal totals. The Caps are getting a Konowalchuk in return only younger and with more offensive skill. The 3rd rounder goes for a player picked in the first round. With the injuries and the slow start for Jonas that turned into a 3rd round pick. I think it was a solid all around deal. I hope Kono can win a cup with the AVS. That is if the Caps do not win the cup this year. (HAHAHAHAHAHA) Av-merican 10-22-2003, 07:07 PM I think the Caps won out in the deal, though the Avs got a great two-way player in return. The Capitals still need to get younger, and did so in spades. Johansson is slated to make the NHL next season, and Battaglia, if someone can get him back to his old form, is a terrific grinder with offensive upside. CapitalsCupFantasy 10-22-2003, 09:19 PM I was in Denver watching Bates' last game in an Avs jersey. Sad day, but I think Bates is a cheaper, bigger, younger version on Kono. JJ is a great pickup IMO. SwisshockeyAcademy 10-22-2003, 09:49 PM To me the difference in Battaglia the last two years to the earlier Battaglia is: He got too comfortable in the NHL, believes his place is cemented and has stopped paying the price. Players with his limited talent level cannot allow this kind of dip, you can find yourself with the Krefeld Penguins in a hurry. He has to go back to what has made him successful. Perhaps this latest trade will be a proper kick in the ass. kenny #9 10-24-2003, 11:14 AM Im guessing.... Anyone know if Willsie and Battaglia played together at all last season towards the end and in the playoffs? I really dont think Bates and Willsie have played with each other much at all, because Willsie played with Hershey for most of last season. As a Avs fan i really wish Granato would have given Bates more of a chance, but i guess whats done is done, and i just hope he rebounds with the Caps, and for the Avs sake. Kono turns out to be a good addition as well. When i first saw this deal, i thought the Capitals won, by a landslide, but i came accross a article that talked about Johansson, it stated that PL didnt plan on resigning him anyways, because of his poor camps and injury concern and high contract demands. So instead of losing him for nothing they got a 3rd out of him. Good luck signing him Washington imagine29028 10-24-2003, 06:10 PM I really dont think Bates and Willsie have played with each other much at all, because Willsie played with Hershey for most of last season. they played a few times together in the Minnesota series...but nothing really. Bates mainly stayed with Sakic and Rhino on the 2nd line....while Willsie achored the 3rd with Hinote and Hahl CapitalsCupFantasy 10-24-2003, 06:13 PM So instead of losing him for nothing they got a 3rd out of him.
