Straka will break his arm tying up his skates and is expensive, not cheap.
Lang is expensive, so I'll give you that one
Hrdina doesn't no what defence is, which is bad since he isn't an offensive type player either
Stop suggesting Chris Gratton!!!!! Yes, he is big, but at least Arnott could score.
dennisjs 10-22-2003, 10:35 PM two words. Mike Comrie.
Mike#16* 10-23-2003, 07:12 AM Get Gaborik!
he is worth the 5 1st rounders!
Unthinkable 10-23-2003, 07:34 AM Much as I'd love to have Gaborik here, I wouldn't want to sell the farm on the teams drafting future just for this priviledge alone. Comrie is sounding better and better every day.
Jared Ramsden 10-23-2003, 11:51 AM Comrie is sounding better and better every day.
I don't know what the facination is with Comrie. We alll ready have a player very comparable to him in Scott Gomez, and Gomez makes less money than Comrie does(or should I saw will, whenever he does sign). I don't see Lou trading for Comrie, because it would cost him Gomez and with the tight financial ship he runs here, I just don't think it will happen.
Having only seen one game, I'm not one to comment on the teams play as of late. Sure it is somewhat concerning to be struggling scoring goals, and especially blowing leads, but didn't we have problems scoring goals last year??? It's too early to get all worked up over the lack of scoring. There are guys here who can score, and will score. Remember too, this is a team that(aside from one year)that always struggles to score goals, but most importantly despite these offensive shortcomings, still finds a way to be successful. Don't panic!!!!
NJDraft 10-23-2003, 01:32 PM The big question is who is going to be available in the second half?
The effects of of loosing players like Almo,Sykora,Arnott,Holik, and in some cases, getting nothing in return, are hitting home now.
Face it: this is a below av. offensive team that has a huge goal scoring prob. down the middle . Elias and Friesen have to score and the opposition knows this and gives them special attention.
I look for Lou to try and deal sometime after New year, for a C and RW. Who that is, depends on who stays in contention.
Missionhockey 10-23-2003, 01:42 PM How about giving Suglobov a look in the NHL?
Don'tcry4mejanhrdina 10-23-2003, 06:33 PM Actually Hrdina is very good on defence and also on faceoffs. His only real weakness is that he is soft and NEVER shoots the puck.

my thoughts exactly..plus he's a bit soft, but he still works hard in his own end
ctynan44 10-24-2003, 06:03 AM I think I'll pass on Chris Gratton. Word is that the Sharks may be looking to deal some of their older players. Among the names being supposedly shopped are Mike Ricci and Scott Thornton. I would like to see Ricci in NJ. He's Lou's type of player and might be had for picks and youngsters. Another team that is supposedly looking to deal is Carolina.
I would love to get O'Neil in NJ. Probably would cost a lot though. If we could send Gomez and something else to Carolina for O'Neil and Svoboda would you do it?

I think there is a decent chance Ricci and Thornton get traded, but probably not until near the trade deadline, when the Sharks are toast in the standings.
Canes strength is down the middle, if the move O'neil I would have to think they would be wanting a winger in reutrn (Elias, Friesen, Langenbrunner)
sveiglar 10-24-2003, 10:15 AM Screw gettin' help, let's tank the year and grab big Alex. ;)

the Pens would beat you for the lottery and get the stud #1 guy again :p
Niedermayer21 10-24-2003, 01:12 PM I'm with you sveiglar. ;)
Hell, forget the Pens, we have to worry about the Rangers tanking unintentionally. :D
PEli* 10-24-2003, 03:27 PM I've seen the Gomez/Comrie comparisons in other threads and I don't get it. Comrie is a much more effective player. I like Gomez and the way he plays but Comrie is a better all around player. He's as quick, more physical, more effective with the puck and while he may not be as good as Gomer in his own zone, he's no slouch.
I would love to see Comrie come to Jersey. Oilers are bred to win and every player in Edmonton has a ton of heart. Championship teams are built with players like Comrie. It's too bad Edmonton can't afford to pay them all.
Let's not get into the Gratton issue again. It was a bad idea in 2000 and things just haven't changed yet. Friends don't let friends trade for Chris Gratton.
Niedermayer21 10-24-2003, 06:31 PM I know this is crazy, but if Theo Fleury can get his act together enough to be reinstated by the league, do we dare take a chance on him at the NHL minimum? Of course the contract would be incentive laden. It is a slippery slope kind of deal. Theo is a talent, but also a pain in the butt for the opposition and the team he is playing for. And we don't know what he has left at this point. :dunno:
Just tossing out the idea. You can throw it back if you like. ;)

In a word, no.
Even if he's cleaned up for good, he's still far from the Theo he used to be. No.

Let him sign with the Boston Bruins when they tire of retreads like Ted Donato. Boston: A drinking town with a baseball problem.
Jared Ramsden 10-24-2003, 07:53 PM every player in Edmonton has a ton of heart
Comrie I'm sure does have heart, but I question it just a little. If he had a lot of heart, he'd be playing for Edmonton right now. He knows the situation they are in, and he's a hometown kid, so what's stopping him from signing? If he had lots of heart, he'd be signed and playing.

Point taken. I suppose I understand his point in that he wants to be paid what his market value is. If he feels that Edmonton is taking him for granted and not paying him what other players of his calibre are making, he'll hold out.
No player wants to give in during contract talks. The PA pressures every young RFA to get the maximum amount possible. If Comrie just signed for a minimum amount, the PA would be all over him behind closed doors. Players get put in the spotlight and sometimes don't deserve it. In this case, I'm on the fence.
