The news wasn't all good as centre Radek Bonk, who played another strong game and scored the Senators' first goal on the power play, might have suffered a wrist injury in the game. His condition will be updated today.
An injury to Bonk would be a blow right now, given how well he's playing. Last night's goal was his third of the season. The Senators also lost defenceman Anton Volchenkov with a suspected concussion.
Not a good sign. Bonk has been awsome through the first 6 games, here's hoping it's nothing major. With him, White and Fisher hurt, I'm gald we have such great depth at center. Tho it will mean one of Hamel, Giroux, or Langfeld will be called up if none of the three can play saturday.
And Vochenkov, concussions always make me nervous. Lets hope he doesn't rush back. I'm to worried about his absence from the lineup, Leschyshyn and Pothier will be fine back there on the 3rd pairing.

Let's hope that Bonk isn't seriously hurt. He's been great so far this season. Bonk plays his best when his position on the team is challenged a little. When he had to step up in Yashin's absence, and the corresponding year after he was fighting Yashin for the number one spot. I think he's felt a challenge coming from Spezza, in a healthy competition type of way, and has responded well.
With Volchenkov, I'm also a little nervous. His style is so dependant on his hitting, and concussion problems are probably the worst thing for him to have. The last thing you want is him being worried about what the concussion impact of a thunderous hit is when he's see someone crossing over the blue line with their head down.
But, we have depth for a reason. Both players can take their time to recover, without it leaving any major holes in our line-up.
donpaulo 10-24-2003, 06:09 AM having havlat back in game shape and nice form will certainly lessen the blow if bonk has to sit. Hello Smolinski
sensfan18 10-24-2003, 06:38 AM I really hope Bonkie is not out, we can get by without him, but I just don't want him to miss any action because he is on such a role right now. A couple games off could break that, and I really hope Anton takes his time, our defence won't miss a beat without him, rushing back from a concussion is never good, especially when you play the way he does.
Dam we looked good lastnight, after the 1st anyways. I don't want to sound like Pat Quinn but does anyone else find some of the penalties we've been getting this year a little absurd.

Nothing out of the usual. There's always some bad penalties out there. There was a couple of instances last night where I thought the Sens got away with some penalties, so it balances out.
Johnny Danger 10-24-2003, 07:16 AM these injuries will keep antoine vermette on the lineup :yo:
The Mars Volchenkov 10-24-2003, 11:26 AM It doestn't list Bonk as hurt on the Sens site, but it says Volchenkov is out for tomorrows game.
Jacques Martin reported that Bonk got slashed in the wrist near the end of the Washington game and lost all feeling in his hand
he's better now and not expected to miss any games
i guess Volchenkov is day-to-day

Article today indicates that Bonk had his hand x-rayed and everything was fine. He should play.
Any confirmation that they've recalled Vauclair from Bingo? With Anton and Hnidy out and Leschesyn looking like he's out, the Sens only have 5 D for tonight without a call-up.
I think Curtis L. is ok, he was a healthy scratch on Thursday if I'm not mistaken.
SensGod 10-25-2003, 10:35 AM http://www.ottawasenators.com/news/press/2003/nr1025.aro
Vauclair has been recalled and is playing tonight. Curtis L has a sore groin or something like that. "something tight" in his leg...Volchenkov our with post concussion and Hnidy out with a buised/broken foot.
Good thing we're carrying 8 NHL dmen eh?
Too bad we lost Brookbank to the Preds...he'd have been perfect for tonight to beat up on the Smurfs...aka Canadiens...
When it comes to Brookbank...once Nashville get's healthy again...we should be able to get him back...so it's all good.
Lexicon Devil 10-25-2003, 11:10 AM Leschyshyn aggravated his back while sleeping in a recliner awaiting the birth of his kid. He's a game-time decision.
I just read in the paper that Curtis L. has a sore back from sitting in the waiting room at the hospital while while the wife was delivering. Previous reports had him as a healthy scratch last Thursday... We know so little.
Also a good quote from Pothier in the paper about all the injuries on D this season. He says opposing forwards dump the puck in and then wait for you to go get it and then they try to smack you. The second guy comes in looking for the loose puck. The D get targeted for punishment. 29 NHL D are injured today.
Of course none of this explains what happened to Curtis... ;)

Hopefully he does well. I wish the best of luck to him. :handclap:
NashvillePredators 10-25-2003, 12:18 PM Vauclair? Why not Christoph Schubert? Schubert played much better than Vauclair. Vauclair is still too soft!
Hossa 10-25-2003, 01:08 PM I'm personally surprised it's not Smrek personally.
