zetterberg40 10-25-2003, 07:33 AM Should be a very, how should i say this, "entertaining" game.. Unsure of who will start tonight, but all i know is that it should be a pretty decent game for the most part.
Ill go with a 5-2 win tonight, i feel we might be on a roll after last night's nice 4-0 win....
det: datsyuk, schneider, mccarty, holmstrom, shanahan
ny: kovalev, poti
I'm going to say 5-1 Wings...witih Shanny, Pasha, Whitney, Lidstrom and McCarty tallying for us.
PigPen 10-25-2003, 10:25 AM The wings will blow the rags out of the water if they can stay out of the box.
That Nedved, Hlavac, Kovalev line looked lethal in the preseason on the PP.
6-1 wings
The wings have been capitalizing on turnovers much more with every game.
Datsyuk will have a blast gutting this weak defensive team.

Wow, I like the way you think! :D After watching that sneaky little critter get through those two Pens defensemen the other night (he ducked right between them and they ran into each other), tonight should be really entertaining! I can't wait to see what tricks he has up his sleeve. I can just imagine him taking Mike Dunham to school like he did Denis on Wednesday night.
Vincent Vega 10-25-2003, 11:28 AM 3-0 Wings. Dunham keeps them in the game.
Zetterberg, Whitney, Maltby(EN)
Spitfire11 10-25-2003, 12:22 PM Wings 4 (Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Schneider, Yzerman)
NY 3 (Nedved (2), Kovalev)
Murmansk16 10-25-2003, 03:08 PM Lewis has been changing the lines on almost every shift. Having Yzerman out of the lineup messes the forward lines up big time. Rivers is decidedly not the answer. If the Wings don't trust Hudler to play, they need to acquire another NHL player for the games Yzerman can't play. This lineup isn't going to cut it for the 15 or so games Yzerman doesn't play.
thecanucker 10-25-2003, 03:46 PM I voted for the New York Rangers:D

Yeah, Rivers just looked lost tonight. I know he's played forward in the past, but how long ago was it? I was hoping to see how he looked on the blueline but...oh well.
This post gave me the urge to take a peek at the UFA still available. Nothing mind blowing, but a few decent guys are still available.
Adam Oates and Steve Thomas are still out there, and would likely take short contracts that would fit well with the salary structure.
Cliff Ronning is still available. Small, but productive.
Steve Heinz. Inconsistant as all hell, wouldn't be worth it, imo.
If you just want a defensive plugger, guys like Marty McInnis, Kent Manderville and Scott Pellerin are available. All of them should be *very* cheap.
Personally, I like Oates and Thomas the most. They're old, but still productive. Just sit Devereaux and Williams more often, or trade them. It's clear Lewis won't play them much, anyway.
Who knows what they will do, but Rivers at forward is clearly not a long term fix.

Looks like he forgot to bring his bag of tricks with him from Wednesday night. Still was quite entertaining though :)
Winger98 10-26-2003, 03:58 AM How's Hasek been playing lately ?
Not bad. He's given up a couple of softies, but he's also made some unbelieveable stops. Personally, he's been better than I expected.
One thing that I have noticed is that he seems to hold the puck and wait for the faceoff more often than in the past. His first stint with the wings, he'd go out of his way to put the puck back in play, and keep the game going but now he just freezes it.

I was away from the internet all weekend and then came back to find this!? I was pissed about giving the Rags their second win of the season (and losing to another team that has occupied the cellar so long the people under the stairs are afraid of them) but having a minor league defenseman at forward?! Couldn't they have waited to send down Hudler? Better yet send down Williams and have him sit out the game on Friday when Yzerman could play and then have him play Saturday.
We do need some help at center, though I'm not sure who we can get. We won't get anything for Cujo (despite rumors that keep surfacing), but I know Oates is still available and his skill at face-offs would be great for the Wings puck possession style of play.
PigPen 10-27-2003, 11:26 AM Le sigh...
the only wings' forward who seemed to actually give a damn that game was Zetterburg. I expected good things for Datsyuk Hull and Whitney but ALL of them played like crap. It had nothing to do with NYR being a bigger, more physical team. They didn't take the game to us. The wings' just weren't in it and only seemed to realize that they were playing hockey late in the 3rd.

I'd love to see Oates back in Detroit. It's not like he'd break the bank, either and there's a roster spot open. Unless something forces Holland's hands, though, I'm having a hard time seeing him making any moves until Cujo is moved, or the trade deadline is here, whichever comes first.
The move of Rivers to forward still boggles me. Hell, why not move Dandeneult back up for a game, and go with four set lines up front and burying Rivers on the third d pairing? I think it would have made for a more stable lineup.
Also, about the end of the game...was Holmstrom and Williams both out there at the end of the game when they pulled Hasek? And was it Woolley and Dandeneult out there on defense? It happened so quick, I didn't get a good look at it (or maybe I just didn't want to believe what I was seeing), but that's ridiculous. Down a goal, fighting for at least a point, and Lewis some how ends up sending them out in that situation? No Hull. No Shanny. No Z. No Datsyuk. Hell, not even the grindline. He sends out Homer, Williams and the third d pairing. I hope I was wrong, but I got a bad feeling I'm not...
