The roster for the Karjala tournament has been announced and it seems to be rather strong IMO:

1 G Liv Stefan HV 71
35 GK Lundqvist Henrik Västra Frölunda HC

2 D Lindman Martin Färjestads BK
4 D Hållberg Per Färjestads BK
6 D Johansson Magnus SC Langnau Tigers
8 D Jonsson Hans MODO Hockey
18 D Johansson Thomas Linköpings HC
23 D Sundin Ronnie Västra Frölunda HC
24 D Frögren Jonas Färjestads BK
25 D Rhodin Thomas HC Fribourg-Gottéron

10 F Hedström Jonathan Djurgårdens IF
11 F Kahnberg Magnus Västra Frölunda HC
12 F Rudslätt Daniel Djurgårdens IF
15 F Salomonsson Andreas MODO Hockey
17 F Johansson Mathias Färjestads BK
19 F Nordström Peter Färjestads BK
21 F Jönsson Jörgen Färjestads BK
22 F Svartvadet Per MODO Hockey
26 F Steen Alexander Västra Frölunda HC
27 F Anger Niklas Brynäs IF
29 F Karlberg Mikael HC Fribourg-Gottéron
76 F Davidsson Johan HV 71

The preliminary line-ups according to swehockey.se is:

D-men
Ronnie Sundin - Magnus Johansson
Martin Lindman - Thomas Johansson
Hans Jonsson - Per Hållberg
Thomas Rhodin - Jonas Frögren

Forwards
Per Svartvadet - Andreas Salomonsson - Magnus Kahnberg
Daniel Rudslätt - Mathias Johansson - Jonathan Hedström
Johan Davidsson - Niklas Anger - Mikael Karlberg
Alexander Steen - Jörgen Jönsson - Peter Nordström

As usual Rudslätt is on the team, don't ask me why. Can Hardy favourise a player any more? Very nice to see Steen on the team though, his line with J.J and Norda could be a treat. Your comments?

I agree it looks pretty good. Also, I share your feelings regarding Rudslätt, even though I'm a DIF fan. I'd rather see Soling or Stefan Pettersson (if it has to be a DIF-player..). I don't like the way the defense looks though. I expect alot of hooking and holding penaltys in our zone if we run into trouble with it. Good to see Frögren in there anyway.

A roster with some experience for a change, I miss Lars Jonsson though.
The selection of Niklas "totally useless" Anger must be a joke...

The real enigma to me is the selection of Daniel Rudslätt...

I think it is a strong team that might do very well in the tournament.. but at the same time it is a pretty "boring" team.

I mean
Jörgen Jönsson
Per Svartvadet
Daniel Rudslätt
Peter Nordström
Mathias Johansson

howe many defensively skilled players does a team need? I would be happy if the Rudslätt was cut.

Players I don't want on the team
Thomas Johansson, Linköping
Niklas Anger, Brynäs
Mikael Karlberg, Fribourg
Daniel Rudslätt, Djurgården
Jonathan Hedström, Djurgården (has he been that good?, he is not producing that much..)

Players I wished were on the team
Niklas Andersson, Frölunda
Niklas Nordgren, Timrå
Lars Jonsson, Leksand
Jari Tolsa, Frölunda
Björn Bjurling, Djurgården

I think the reason why Niklas Nordgren and Niklas Andersson aren't on the team is that they are both injured at the moment. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I guess there's no way to have a roster without Rudslätt as long as Hardy is coaching. As long as Frögren is on the team I'm satisfied. :p

perhaps Nordgren.. but Niklas Andersson scored a goal tonight..

I´ve never seen Daniel as a pure defensive player, more an offensive player who doesn´t produce as much. Personally I´m not that upset with the selection of Rudslätt, he may be a bit soft but there are worse players in this league. A whole bunch is playing in Södertälje... ;)

I would not call Rudslätt a defensive specialist but he can't produce big numbers in the SEL and Hardy for sure did not select him for his scoring ability.

He is a good guy, Rudslätt, very fit and well trained and works hard. Admirable, I agree.. but when there are many players on the team already with pretty much the same abilities I definitely question him being on the roster.

I like Hardy but not today...
I think the team lacks a lot of fighting spirit, physical power and nastyness. Those factors are needed in international hockey. Especially the defense have too much gentlemen I.M.O. If you look at the defenders more than half of the defenders have very limited physical power and fighting spirit. It's only Frögren, Sundin (heavy gentleman), Hans Jonsson and possibly Lindman, that can play physical. Most of the forwards also lack fighting spirit and power I.M.O.

I've read that Hardy says this team will be a lot of experience and the Baltica Cup team will be a lot younger, but if the old players are among the worst in the team like Thomas Johansson, Karlberg, Rudslätt, Anger (even though he is not very old he is not really a young prospect) then I think it's a waist to miss the chans to try some young, more modern, enthusiastic players.

Another funny thing. The defenders in the national team are offensively and the forwards are defensive.

I agree with you qwad.
Another thing that buggles me is the fact that Karlberg makes the team. He was outstanding in the SEL last season and should have gotten the chance then.. this year he is playing in a worse league and all of a sudden Hardy wants to test him. Why didn't he do it last year?

Being more positive this team should rock in boxplay. Nordström-Jönsson, Johansson-Svartvadet .. that's four very, very good defensive players.

Agree, the boxplay looks amacing. But it won't win us any games. We need offensive power and as qwad says some nastyness. Not sure if Wernblom turned down playing for Tre Kronor but we could really use a player like him.

I don't have a good answer on why Karlberg makes the team suddenly, he should have been there last season not sure if he should be there now. I could actually easily replace Karlberg, Rudslätt or Anger with Prestberg for example who is a natural goal scorer and right now he's doing great.

well, you know me.. I'm a Prestberg-basher so I will not comment on you wanting him on the team :) :) :)

what are you guys' thoughts on Mikael Lind. he is having a great season so far. do you think that would have warranted consideration for the team? or do you see his performance this year as kind of a fluke?

Mikael Lind is a good SEL player. :p

I don´t think that Linds numbers this season is a fluke, he´ll be a force to reckon with in the SEL coming years. Mikael Karlberg is another small and skillful player who got his breaktrough late in his career.

I think he will get his chance in the next tournament, Baltica Cup. Another player I would like to see in Baltica is Markus Matthiasson.
