Hopefully Gomez and Elias will play like they did last season when Patrik had his four goal game. This team needs to break out with some big goal scoring in the worst way.

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Islanders try to remain perfect at Nassau Coliseum this season when they host the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.

The Islanders, who are aiming for a fourth victory in five games, routed Pittsburgh here on Saturday, 7-2, to improve to 3-0 at home.

Rookie Trent Hunter scored his first two NHL goals and Mariusz Czerkawski also tallied twice. Defenseman Janne Niinimaa, Jason Blake and rookie Sean Bergenheim also scored, with Bergenheim recording his first career goal.

The Islanders, who jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead, have outscored opponents by 14-5 in the opening 20 minutes.

The Devils have lost three of their last four contests, including a 5-2 home setback to Boston on Saturday.

Patrik Elias scored on the power play and Jamie Langenbrunner tallied a shorthanded goal in the first period, but the Devils could not hold an early 2-1 lead.

The Devils went 4-0-1 against the Islanders last season.

Friesen scores on the rebound. Good play by Colin White. Dipietro turns over the puck behind his own net.

Good first period overall. Friesen was continually finishing his checks against Peca well and it seemed like the entire team was paying similar attention to the finer details in the hitting department. Berglund had one solid hit early on.

Not a very good 1st period IMO. Very boring, dump and chase hockey. Little legitimate SC for either team. Freeze had a nice goal, but other than that, our PP stunk and no real scoring chances for us.

It was a stalemate of a chess match for most of the first with the Isles playing the same style as us to the T. Shots were very low. Nieds made one great play to catch up to Bates to prevent another good Isles scoring chance. Sharks announcers feel that Nabokov has the best glove hand in the NHL, but that save by Brodeur on Bates was as good as it gets imo.

OHHHHHHHHHHH, Gionta almost tipped that one in. Good scoring chance to start the 2nd, though.

Aside: I appreciate Matt & the Maven a lot more after seeing Deb & the Maven.

EDIT: PANDOLFO! MAYBE! YES! THE REF SAYS YES!

Langenbrunner breakaway? No. Madden on the stuff in? No. But Pandolfo? Yes. Further proof that he is a goal scoring machine. :rolly:

The Devils played well in the 2nd, save for a few penalties and mistakes (which Brodeur bailed NJ out of).

Now, I know they can't read this, but I'd like to give the Devils the following message:

DON'T BLOW IT IN THE THIRD. AGAIN.

Maybe Burns will try that.

Burns: "OK, what period are we going into?"

Devils: "The th-"

(Burns holds up...A Rangers jersey!)

Devils: "FIRST! IT'LL BE THE FIRST!"

Burns: "Good."

Congrats on the clinic....er, I mean victory.

Just an outsider's opinion, but any worry about NJD's slow start is a real waste of energy, and viewpoint that is not based on tonight's superb effort.

Your team is five months removed from hoisting the Cup. There is another six months until the playoffs.

For NYI, a good litmus test for how far they still need to go. Granted, just one game, one night in October, but they are eons away from executing their trapping system with the precision and consistency that NJD does.

A very satisfying win...career shut-out #65 for Marty!
I had predicted that Colin would take a stupid penalty, but I'll have to eat my words...even when #7 in blue knocked him to the ice, he did not retaliate. And a nice hit by Berglund on Hamrlik...let's keep up the physical play.
Now let's see if we can get two points at home against the Flyers.

It's already been brought, what's up with the Home Record, the Devs usually are one of the better home teams, usually it's advantage NJ when we play there, now it looks like advantage Philly. Can't wait for the game on Thursday, the Devils are one team i really look forward to playing, always a playoff like atmosphere.
