Two teams with bad defenses. Would be nice to see another high scoring game.

Who is playing net tonight?

Caron.

Fleury played maybe his worst game last night, plus it being an OT- back to back situation, Caron will start.

On another topic, with Zhamnov and Daze both out of the lineup, how much fire-power does Chicago really have? I mean some nice players like Arnason, but not worldbeaters by any means....then again, neither is our defense.

Sullivan and Arnason have really been leading the team offensively. McLean, who was called up because of the injuries, as also been putting up solid numbers. He's a kid who has seemed to be overlooked with Chicago's top prospects stealing the attention. But, he's got skills.

Speaking of their top prospects, tonight will be my first look at Tuomo Ruutu.

I just heard ( about 3:30 pm) on ESPN radio 1250 in Pittsburgh that Fleury was getting his second straight start and first start on the road. So is it Fleury or Caron?

I don't doubt that it's Fleury. He may be tired, but Caron's sporting a GAA of about 5.

I'll be PO'ed if it's Fleury. Can't do this to the poor kid. The only way Caron is going to improve his numbers is if he plays more than once every week and a half...

Caron let in seven during his last outing. Fleury got the Pens a point in his.

Maybe Caron should play, but one back to back won't kill the kid.

I would start Caron tonight, and depending on if he has a great game tonight, i would throw him back in on Saturday afternoon against the Bruins

Fleury still played very well last night as he made several key saves late in the game

Fleury is our future, but he cant face 40 shots a night as an 18 year old, give Caron a bit more time

Fata's and Straka's speed get us 2 points tonight :D

If it's Caron in net: 3-2 loss
If it's Fleury in net: 4-2 loss

If it's Caron in net: 3-2 loss
If it's Fleury in net: 4-2 loss

Why?
I would say:
If Caron is in nets: 3-3 tie
If Fleury is in nets: 3-1 win

i think it says caron is starting on the pens website.

well, we thought that about LA w/o deadmarsh and allison and still got our butts handed to us. granted LA is better, but same point

DJ Spinoza

Fleury is the starter. I'll go with an announcement on the radio over our speculation any day (mine included).

Either way, I predict:

Pens 1

Fata

Hawks 2

Calder
Vorobiev

I'd like to see them win but I wouldn't be disappointed if they didn't.
And no it's not because I want a very high pick this year, it's because they've fought and played hard every game so far with the exception of the first game of the season.
Last season in thier losses they looked like they just had no intrest in being on the ice and didn't care if they won or lost. The youngsters like Fleury, Koltsov, Fata, Orpik, Malone, Abid, Melichar,ETC, ETC., seemed to bring new life into veterans such as Straka, Morozov, Tarnstrom, ETC.
And also I think we got some legitimate role players such as Buchberger,Eastwood, and Webb. Hell, I think I was the only really happy person on this board when we got Buchberger.
The guy has been one of the best mucker and grinders in the league for the past 15 years. Also he comes and gives it his all every shift night in night out, and mark my words that will rub off on alot of the youngsters by the end of the year.
Alright after all the rambling my perdiction is Pens 5 Chi- Town 0.
Caron gets the shut out.

DJ Spinoza
10-30-2003, 04:11 PM
I do mine at random really.

The Pens have an at best streaky offensive, a defense with one or two actual defensemen, and two developing goalies.

That team will still win, but I doubt more than 30 games.

Darth Vitale
10-30-2003, 04:16 PM
Pens win by 2 regardless of who's in net. Because the Hawks won't take the Pens seriously the way they took the teams on their West Coast trip seriously. That and Bill Wirtz is a pr|ck and will be punished by the hockey Gods for treating Smith like dirt.

Fleury. He had already had some decent saves. They are getting schooled on the PK. Chicago kept it in the whole time.

Fleury's 18, he can handle back-to-back's better than most 35-year olds.

Orpik is really dominating physically. Has he become more disciplined then in the beginning of the season? He could be a great stay at home d-man that can absolutely level people.

That was an amazing goal by Koltsov.

Overall the Penguins have played very, very well tonight. Only 13 shots by the Hawks going into the third.

I must say I'm also impressed with Fleury, I didn't think he'd be able to handle a double-header. He hasn't faced much but still he's made some great saves.

The Tang
10-30-2003, 06:53 PM
im surprised he was able to handle back to back games too.

not only did we get our first shut out, but we outshot the other team for the first time! 20-19! its a night of firsts.

Fleury handled the double-header with flying colors. :p A shuout in his 6th game. In the post game interview he said that he was happy with the D's play ("it was.. perfect"). Hope he can say that after every game :).

1-0 Pens, AWESOME goal by Koltsov, turned the defender inside-out. Once again stellar play by Fleury, and he only had to face 20 shots.

While we didn't outshoot them, keeping them to 20 shots is definitely a positive.

OK, so it was only a 1 goal win and not 2, but I told ya the Hawks wouldn't take the Pens seriously. Sadly i live IN Chicago, so I wasn't allowed to see the game because d*ckhead Bill Wirtz doesn't want me to watch it.

Forget about the Hawks and Ovechkin, Wirtz is too cheap. The kid would never sign Wirtz' low-ball offer (and it would be low-ball city). The old, boozing ****** bag that he is....

Orpik looked like a force out there.

But I glanced away from the TV for a second and missed a collision between Orpik and a hawk. Lange and Errey said Orpik was dazed but he couldnt get off the ice immediately so he stayed on the ice for like 30 more seconds, if anyone remembers that play. So my question is, who hit who?
