Does anybody know what roster they are sending?

Not the top roster that's for sure....they got a tournament in Finland to go to.

haven't posted in a while.

I really don't know what roster will be sent but I am pretty sure you won't have the best players. The 2 games against the Canadian players are on 11/20 and 11/24 I believe, but you have RSL games for all the teams on 11/19, 11/22, 11/24. So no chance to see any of the guys who play regularly in RSL. At best, I would expect a B or C team. Actually, it could be more useful to send the 86' team (without Malkin and Lyamin of course).

The tournament in Finland goes from 11/7 through 11/9, so it should not prevent players from attending the tournament in Canada later that month.

As nobody posted the roster for the Finland tournament, I will put it (I am too lazy to type the names of the teams, height, weight, and dob). May be I will put them later. Roster is pretty scary:

Fs:
Ovechkin
Zherdev
Anshakov
Malkin
Mirnov
Kazionov
Glazachev
Shafigulin
Pestunov
Evseev
Chernykh
Isakov
Glukhov
Krutov
Makarov
Ermolin

Obviously, no Semin. A bit surprising not to see Krikunov who is doing great stuff in RSL and whose play with Ovechkin 2 years ago was productive. A bit surprised not to see Tunik. Less surprising, no Sheviev, Shkotov, etc.

Ds:
Kosmachev
Ezhov
Korneev
Lyamin
Tyulyapikin
Gimaev
Stepanov
Vorobiev
Spiridonov
Semenov
Panin
Peretyagin

No Babchuk obviously. No Grot, Shinin, Pepelyaev, Koltsov.

Gs:
barulin
Sidikov
Khudyakov (he plays with Cherepovets now).

Another roster: the 1986 roster for the tournament in Czech Republic around the same dates. Obviously no Malkin or Lyamin. It's a bit surprising that they are still selecting new players whereas they selected enough players to do 3 teams over the past 3 years. I will put the teams, dob., height, weight later).

Gs:
Dolgushin, Khudobin, Kosutin
Ds: Amakhin, Belov, Biryukov, Ibragimov, Karetin, Mikhaylishin, Papunin, Aksenenko, Dzhugelia, Dorofeev
Fs: Lisin, Parshin, Plyushev, ****ikov, Radulov, Shirokov, Slanikov, Voloshenko, Yunkov, Zhmaev, Gribanov, Grigorenko, Skorokhodov, Stepanov, and Zubov (the only 87' born player).

I will try to post a ranking of players elibigle for the draft later this week or so).

Well done, Guillaume. Very interesting!

About the surprises, we have to remember that the Russian coach is very selective. He doesn't just look to the talent but take care of the capacity of the players selected to act as a team. Last year, he didn't pick Anton Babchuk to the World Junior even if he had been a first NHL first rounder a year before. For the same reason, Zherdev didn't have a lot of ice in Nova Scotia.

I don't fully agree with you. If it would be his main criterion for selecting players, then Krikunov should be there (he is a pass-first type fo player), as well as Sheviev, who is the typical team player and was the captain of the 1984 team in the past.

very impressive line-up for the Fs. Add Semin and may be guys like Tunik, Sheviev, or Krikunov and it should be a lot of fun at the next WJC.

My guess is the final cuts will be Ermolin, Evseev, Krutov, Makarov, Ezhov, Lyamin, Panin, and Vorobiev, and Khudyakov

Guillaume, is it the roster for the RE/MAX cup or for the U20?

Guillaume
11-04-2003, 06:23 PM
this is the roster for the U20 in Finland. Note that Ovechkin and Korneev were called with the senior team though. I have really no clue what will be the roster for Canada. I am not sure there would be any RHL regular. May be something like the tournament in September.

I am trying to get a hand on the 1987 roster for the tournament in Magnitogorsk and post it here.

Guillaume, is it the roster for the RE/MAX cup or for the U20?

It should be noted that there are going to be 6 games played against Canadian players, not two, as stated before.

Ovechkin isn't going to Finland. He has a leg injury and a broken nose according to hcdynamo.com.

For the 1987 tournament in Magnitogorsk:

RUS-SWI 4-1
Lesnukhin (Privalov)
Istomin (Churilov)
Istomin (Churilov)
Kucheryavenko (Sopin)

RUS-USA 3-4
Sopin (Poleshuk)
Privalov (Churilov, Istomin)
Sopin (Kucheryavenko)

Roster:
Gs: Letunovsky, Petrov
Ds: Buravchikov, Korolev, Osipov, Pakhomov, Poleshuk, Prigaro, Privalov, Zubarev
Fs: Antosik, Chistyakov, Churilov, Istomin, Krysanov, Kucheryavenko, Lesnukhin, Lyapunov, Polushin, Sopin, Sviridenko, Velichkin.

Not surprisingly, Churilov, Istomin, Sopin are the offensive leaders of the team. I would also expect Buravchikov and Krysanov to be among the scorers too.
The main problem of the team is the lack of the size, especially D (exactly the contrary of the 1986 team that has so many 6'3+ players).

Surprising not to see Anikeenko, Proskuryakov, Belyakov, Bumagin, Stosenko, or Popov.
