Dustin Not Playing

I see Dustin isn't playing tonight. Could it be that Taylor is having second thoughts on keeping Brown with the big boys? Does anyone know why he isn't dressed?

Scratched on his 10th game.......have a bad feeling about this one....or maybe is it a good one since he will see more icetime in AHL

Miller and Fox just mentioned that Murray has said that Dustin will be staying even though he isn't dressed tonight. They also said that he might watch from the pressbox occasionally throughout the season.
They seem to think his development will be better playing at the NHL level, even if he doesn't play every night. This may be true, but I don't think it's true if the kid gets less than the 10 minutes per game he has been averaging.

Dustin would be sent to the Guelph Storm of the O.H.L if he is sent down.

Andy Murray made it clear in a radio interview yesterday that Brown will stay with the Kings this season (save for the time in Dec-Jan when he plays for the US) but will only dress in the neighborhood of 40-60 games.

We've seen him dressed, we've seen him undressed. Obviously the kid has skills.

It's becoming more popular to do this with prospects who have an NHL game, but who aren't mature enough yet to take a full season of beating without being overly hard on themselves when they screw-up. Minnesota did the same with PM Bouchard last season, and they seem to have done the right thing... i believe that boston also did this with Joe Thornton, and Thornton has been heard to say that it was very beneficial for him as a learning process to play 10minutes a night (or less) but get to watch the players do their thing... even guys who are solid pros (Sheldon Souray for one) have said that press-box time can be very educational in terms of learning to "think the game" faster.

Good luck to Dustin, and if he has troubles remember that at 18 some time in the pressbox will help him more than playing when he's overthinking or being too hard on himself when he's inconsistent.

Gotta disagree-this approach has ruined more players than it has helped. More ice time is better in almost all cases. Not saying this is guarenteed to hurt Dustin long-term. I hope it won't. I've just never agreed with playing 18 year olds 10 minutes a night or less in the NHL, and getting PB time as well. But to each his own I suppose.

Waveburner, I have seen it help allot of young players. Would you be able to provide a list of players that you feel it ruined so that we could give a comparison? It might be fun.

it's Dustin Brown's 19th birthday today... let's all hope that whatever happns this season, he does not become Olli Jokinen, Aki Berg, and/or Daryyl Sydor in the eyes of the Kings fan base.

Speaking of Dustin Brown being dressed, I went to the Kings game on Saturday (free tickets) and saw Dustin Brown walking around the lower concourse. He was dressed in a kinda cheesy blue suit, to be honest. But he was a real nice guy, talking to anyone who came up to him.

Dustin plays in FLA today. That's game #10 for him.

Good to see him picking up his first point in that game too.

Didn't play a shift in the 3rd. He's being spoon fed with managable bites. Murray said the point scoring shift with Sim was the best shift he played all year. That dog can hunt! People say Frolov is untouchable but this guy is the real deal. I'm always seeing that 23 number and thinking "Johnson is looking pretty good" then I tip to it- Hey that's Brown. The big Brown truck delivers. I see UPS as a sponsor next year.
