What do you guys think of this ex-Stars prospect? How many years off is this kid from NHL play?
What kind of a player does he project to be?
Did you like the deal for of Ryan for Barnes(I tend to not like the deal on the Stars end because I don't like trading youth for veterans)?
How are his stats this year?

The Sabres, at the time, made the right move. They were cutting salary and moving the team in a new direction. But how can you say you don't support the deal?? I think Stu ( 5 G, 2 A, +4) is doing a mighty fine job down there.

I am not saying that I don't like Stu, because I like him a lot. But I like the idea of having a guy who could be highly productive for 12 years more than the idea of a player who only has a couple more years of prime production in him.

Mike Ryan has looked good so far this season in Rochester. He's been getting plenty of 1st line ice time playing with Jason Pominville and Derek Roy or Domenic Pittis.
How soon he gets to the NHL depends largely on what happens with the Sabres. Right now the Sabres have a fair bit of young depth up front. It will likely take some house cleaning by the Sabres front office for Ryan to get a spot in Buffalo post-CBA war.
But so far, I've really liked what I've seen. And Mike could turn into a player that is very similiar to Stu Barnes down the road. He looks to be rather versatile and he does have some solid offensive abilities.
As far as the trade goes, I didn't mind it. And since the team used the budget space created by the deal to go out and get Chris Drury signed and they kept Miro Satan around, then I can't complain.
Plus, they also got Branislav Fabry in the deal. And he should be able to help out in the long term as well.
