ZombieMatt 05-09-2006, 01:22 PM Just wondering what types of features/interviews you would like to see from the Canucks section (me) on Hockey's Future?
Trying to put together a list of potential articles for the next 12 months.
anguscertified 05-09-2006, 02:02 PM I realize it will be hard to co-ordinate, but more news on our college boys (Schneider, Raymond) would be terrific.

Actually, that is pretty easy. What are you looking for? We had a Q+A with Cory this season and a feature with Raymond, both in mid-December 2005. What can we do to make it better and more useful for readers?
Kickassguy 05-09-2006, 02:29 PM What I'd like to see is more direct Q&As with the prospects themselves, and interviews with Nucks scouts or someone else in the system (GM, Assistant GMs, whatever) about the prospect pools and specific prospects and their progression.
I know there's been some of this in the past, and it's probably not easy to arrange, I'm sure, but it's these type of features that generally intrigue me the most.

Yea, maybe just a more in-depth interview on Schneider. But I must say the coverage of stuff has been very good for quite some time now.

Yeah I would like to see more interviews with scouts and their assesments of the prospects at like the quarter-mid-three quarter marks or something like that. Your doing a great job Matt, keep it up.
Burke's Evil Spirit 05-09-2006, 03:19 PM I think we do a fine job in terms of our prospect info. If anything, the guy I'd like to know more about is Kris Freidheim, who apparently had a good season, but I don't know anything about his playing style or pro upside.
What I'd like to see is more interviews with Nonis, Tambellini, Smyl, Delorme, various scouts. We had a brief thing with Nonis during the WJCs which was pretty superficial. I want to know things about scouting strategy, drafting philosophy, what Nonis thinks of some past draft picks, etc. A few years ago Holly Gunning had this amazing interview with Don Waddell where he basically laid out his grand strategy for Atlanta. It was awesome.

Yeah, that'd be awesome. Maybe some thoughts about the upcoming draft as well.

Sure thing, this is almost certainly doable.
We had an interview with Dave Nonis about five months ago, but I'll work to get comments from other staff. These interviews would likely come out in player features, however, rather than one big Q+A.
Which players would you like to see Q+As done with?

We'll see what we can do with this. The Draft obviously presents a good opportunity to make some of these happen.

If u can get an interview with the new drafted prospect of VAncouver that be great. BUt its also a no brainer probably. but thx for asking.
Dolemite 05-09-2006, 03:36 PM Article Ideas:
- Update on Fedor Federov.
- How will the Canucks Goaltending Situation play a role (if any) in the Draft? There's Four goaltenders (Auld, Cloots, Noronen, Oulette) and only room for two on the roster and one in Manitoba.
Kickassguy 05-09-2006, 04:03 PM Which players would you like to see Q+As done with?
Honestly, any of them would be interesting... about what the Canucks have told them about their game, strengths/weaknesses, where they see themselves within the Canucks organization in a year or two (I'd be especially interested in what Schneider or someone like Koltsov [who I understand is probably not easily reachable!] would have to say about this)... stuff like that. I guess a few specifically intriguing names might be Schneider (again), Hansen, Edler. Whoever is accessible!
And I know I'm echoing common sentiment here, but by and large I think you're doing a great job.
lindgren 05-09-2006, 04:07 PM I would love to read an interview with Thomas Gradin.

Why? :dunno:
Dolemite 05-09-2006, 04:12 PM Why? :dunno:
Just to see if he finally pulled his head out of his *** or not or in the very least on the way to fulfilling any semblance of potential.

Going by his stats this year... sure doesn't look like it.
galiano 05-09-2006, 04:38 PM I would love to read an interview with Thomas Gradin.
I second this. Things like how he found Edler in the wilds of Sweden. Also an article about Gradin's playing days with the Canucks. He was a sweet number one centre.
How about a regular feature on " where are they now " ? I realize a lot of people here are younger but there are a number of old time fans like me who would really be interested in articles about guys like Harold Snepts, and even Harold Druken. Might be hard to get information but it would sure be interesting.
What ever happened to Bobby Lalonde ? Guys like that.

ZombieMatt 05-09-2006, 05:34 PM Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions thus far.
Just a few notes in general.
The big request has been more interviews with management/coaches/scouts. This is something that I hope to include more of next season. I think that the likelihood of getting a full interview transcript with a scout is low, just because of the nature of what they do. If these interviews were to occur, I would expect that those comments would come out in feature stories on the specific player in question. I honestly can't recall HF publishing a transcript of an interview with a scout. Now, maybe this is something people want changed, but that's not really a decision I get to make.
But, my point is, I will be working towards having more organizational quotes included in article this season.
Fed Fed Update: Sorry, he's out of my purview. The Rangers writer may do something on that, and if he does, I'll be sure to post a link to the article.
Where Are They Now: Unfortunately this falls outside of what HF does. It's interesting, but we're purely a current prospect-focused web site with a few exceptions like the upcoming series "2001 Draft Reviews" which will be released later this month.
Impossibles 05-09-2006, 05:48 PM Wishlist:
Less canucks.com posters ;)
Seriously:
-More player and scout interviews.
-Interviews with farm team management/coaches
Basically more original information. I hate reading articles when I know the writer is just regurgitating information they read somewhere else. Not saying I've found that on HF, just that I enjoy reading first hand information much more.
Flash Walken 05-09-2006, 05:52 PM I'd like to read a pre-training camp report with a short bio on the newish faces trying to make the squad, as well as interviews with some of the newer guys about things they've learned/worked on during the off-season.

This would definitely be a cool feature.
Russian_fanatic 05-09-2006, 07:55 PM I third the Thomas Gradin interview. IMO our best scout.

choosing the best Canucks scout is like picking your favourite Flame.
I kid... sort of.
Bootsauce 05-09-2006, 10:23 PM I would really like to hear from some of the prospects about what they have been told to work on, what they personaly feel they need to work on and what they did during the off-season to accomplish there goals. I would like to ask them what type of player they see themselves as "max potential".

i like this
sbutler66 05-11-2006, 09:50 AM I really enjoy the interview format the the Kelowna Rockets employ ontheir website www.kelownarockets.com . It gives a nice insight into the players off the ice, and with the off season here some insight into what the prospects will be doing in order to make the camp, or if it's later in the year, what they were advised to work on, as per Flash Walken's and Bootsauce's posts.
I would love a feature at the time of the prospects camp, and progress of the prospects in the main camp, with quick summaries f how each performed.
For the euro and out of town prospects what their first impressions of the city and the facilities are, maybe even silly questions like what their favorite restaurant is if they have had time to check things out.
Would photographs be a possibiliy? Either in action at the camps, or just in situ if you interview them in person.
Keep up the good work.
BATJAM 05-13-2006, 02:55 PM This might be asking too much, but is there any way we can get video clips of some of our prospects. I hear so much about Raymond's speed, Edler's rushing, Schneider's positioning, Vincent breaking legs... but get to see very very little of it, especially the college guys.
lubomirvaic77 07-20-2006, 12:29 AM a Q&A with lubomir Vaic!......or Jurja Simek, you chose
Kesler Kills Kommies 07-20-2006, 12:53 AM I hope this dont sound stupid, but how about some video highlights on some of our best prospect, like some of the great save make by Corey Schneider, or some of the great goal by Hansen
damn, BATJAM beat me to it:P
Corona-12 07-20-2006, 01:54 AM I'd like just more interviews, it gives us some knowledge of what kind of personality the player has. Also, maybe some more info/interviews with some of our lesser prospects. Manitoba Moose players and such. Would have been nice to see guys like Burrows,Rypien, and Schultz get some interviews this/last season.
The latest on Leif Rohlin!
RobsonStreet 07-20-2006, 02:14 AM Off the top of my head:
Re: guys like Schneider and Raymond- comments from coaches, commentators, etc surrounding the team in addition to players.
Fredheim was mentioned, but I'm also particularly curious on the progress of Matt Butcher. Focus on him would be nice.
As things fall into place, some interviews with Salmon King staff re: talent development and prospects would be great as well.
Alan Jackson 07-20-2006, 10:03 AM One thing that might be interesting is an outside view on our prospects?
What do other scouts/managers have to say about some of these future Canucks?
Mind you, nobody is going to say anything negative about another team's youth, at least not on the record.
Cody Schroeder 07-20-2006, 11:19 AM ^Yes.
Yeah I would like to see more interviews with scouts and their assesments of the prospects at like the quarter-mid-three quarter marks or something like that. Your doing a great job Matt, keep it up.
And what he said.
Norris bound Edler 07-20-2006, 12:57 PM I really like your articles. But since you ask........ here's what comes to mind...
It would be nice to solicit a blogger from the Colleges where Schneider, Butcher, etc are playing to update us on games, someone who goes to the games or works for those teams, regular updates and pics weekly?
same goes for our european prospects.
Moose and Salmonkigs get/will get fairly well covered, Whereve Gabner goes, be great to have a blogger feeding your site.
Gero Hertle's Blog is a good example...
Russian_fanatic 07-20-2006, 01:28 PM I want more on Butcher. He seems REALLY intriguing, and has shown big time improvements. I'd like to know what his potential really is, and some interviews about him.
Also I agree with the posters who want video highlights. That would be really cool. We've heard so much about Schneider cat like reflexes, Ellis's gloves, how agile Vincent is, how fast Grabner is, Edler's passing, and Raymond's break neck acceleration.

This isn't likely to ever occur. While I certainly don't disparage the work that many bloggers do, including Hertle, HF relies on a network of its own staff and other accredited media resources. This isn't something I really have any say in.
Yammer 07-21-2006, 02:36 AM I'm generally happy with your writing Matt, but here's a wish list.
1. More updates
2. Interviews Q and A. Some of the Q should be softball stuff that is kind of interesting on a personal level. What do they think of their billets? How are they doing in school? What's it like being drafted? Do they think about their pro careers? Do you have a plan B if the NHL doesn't work out? And some of the Q should be hockey stuff of interest to people who play a little and might be interested in on-ice tactics and abilities. Who do you try to play like? What's the best aspect of your game? Have you played other positions? What's your training regime?
3. Retrospective stuff. Compare players in the NHL to their scouting profiles, their draft expectations, to show how things change or don't change.
