Just pulled this directly off of the CHL website because I found it interesting:
"The Canadian Hockey League and the Student Athlete"
The Canadian Hockey League is proud of its position of being the major source of talent for the National Hockey League. The CHL is also a leading contributor of academic scholarships for students at universities, colleges and other post-secondary institutions throughout Canada. In this role of providing academic scholarships, the CHL is also the leading source of talent for the 31 hockey teams that compete in Canadian Interuniversity Sport as 320 graduates from the Canadian Hockey League are playing hockey in the CIS this season.
CHL Grads in the CIS
In the past decade the member teams and leagues of the CHL have increased their commitment to the education of their players through scholarship programs, establishing partnerships with CIS hockey teams and by the use of education advisors and consultants by the teams to monitor academic progress, provide course selection assistance, individualized tutoring and assisting players seek out post secondary opportunities.
In the past ten years the member teams and leagues of the CHL have contributed over $12 million dollars in scholarships to assist their graduates with their post secondary education. Last season CHL teams made $2 million in scholarships available to their graduates for their post secondary education.
In 2001-02 300 graduates from the Canadian Hockey League played varsity hockey at a university in Canadian Interuniversity Sports.
All 31 varsity hockey teams in the CIS in the 2001-02 season had a CHL grad on their roster.
Eleven of the 12 players selected to the 2001-02 All Canadian Teams are graduates of the CHL.
Four of the six members of the 2001-02 CIS All Rookie team are graduates of the CHL.
The 2001-02 CIS Hockey Champions, the University of Western Ontario, featured 17 CHL grads in its line up. The runners up, the Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres, had 23 former CHL players on its roster.
In 2002-03 320 graduates of the Canadian Hockey League played varsity hockey at a university in Canadian Interuniversity Sports.
All 31 varsity hockey teams in the CIS in the 2002-03 season have at least one CHL grad on their roster.
