All I'm hearing is a bunch of excuses. The ice is no good, the air is no good, the water is no good, the refs are no good, the Sabres are no good. I'm looking at a team that's scurrying around looking for excuses.

Lindy: Wrong! Mairsy, what is best in hockey?
Mairsy: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their fans!
Lindy: That is good.

Time to build a Moldovian fortress around Miller and the net.
No Turk, Russian, Swede or 'Cane will penetrate the defenses.
Our boys will come out on the ice frothing at the mouth, mad dogs on a mission.
Seek and destroy! For 1 night the 'cane crest will be a bull'seye of destruction. A beacon for every Sabre to hone in on and obliterate. With the start of the hurricane season, the path of destruction will not be outside the arena, but inside the RBC center. One hurricane season begins, and one ends!
The power play WILL be effective tonight
A goalie change in the 2nd period will not boost their morale
The transition game will convert
No excuses, no whining about the ice, no crabbing about officiating! No excuses.
Not this time of year, not tonight. This is OUR time.

Chainshot 06-01-2006, 09:45 AM No Kalinin, no Tallinder, likely no Numminen, and possibly no McKee, playing in the other team's barn in a Game 7 that statistically speaking has been a home team win 74 out of 117 times. And this just for a chance to get to a well-rested, healthy team in the Finals... Wow.

imyourhuckleberry 06-01-2006, 11:33 AM Hi I'm Jay freaking McKee, I need to get my *** in the lineup and not worry about a foot infection. Strap an IV to each arm and leg and let me go out there! I would not for the life of me pull a Bruce Smith and sit out unless I lost both arms and legs or were dead. Put me in coach my teamates and city need me!
puckhead1213 06-01-2006, 11:47 AM Without McKee there will be around 5-10 shots that will make their way to Miller that would normally be blocked. Miller needs to give his best performance yet because when Lydman's not out there he's going to be on an island all by himself.
doormat247 06-01-2006, 11:48 AM I may be a fan of the Oilers but you gotta give a lot of respect to what the Sabres have done so far in the playoffs and I fully expect the Sabres to find a way to win this game.
Miller will be even better (it is possible), Lydman and Campbell will do their best impression of Niedermeyer and Lidstrom in playing huge minutes tonight, and the rest of the defense will suck it up and play the games of their life.
On top of that the forwards will be even more responsible then usual, as they know they will be looked to tonight. Ward is good, but if the Sabres will send enough traffic his way to throw him off his game. The kid can't stop what he can't see.
My prediction...
4-3 Sabres in OT

RALEIGH, N.C.(AP) -- The Buffalo Sabres will be without yet another defenseman for tonight's Game Seven against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Veteran Jay McKee, Buffalo's best defensive player, didn't make the trip to Raleigh yesterday due to a seriously infected cut
on his shin.
After the team's morning skate today, Coach Lindy Ruff announced that McKee definitely won't be playing tonight, leaving the Sabres down four regular defensemen.
Teppo Numminen is hampered by a hip injury and had a setback after being limited to playing only four minutes in Game Six. The sabres confirmed to Channel 2's Adam Benigni that Numminen definately won't play in game 7 either.
Buffalo is also without injured defensemen Henrik Tallinder and Dmitri Kalinin.
Nathan Paetsch will take McKee's place on the Sabres bench. Paetsch played in Rochester this season. The defensemen for the Sabres will consist of Brian Campbell, Toni Lydman, Rory Fitzpatrick, Doug Janik, Jeff Jilson, and Paetsch for game 7.
The best-of-seven Eastern Conference final is tied at three-all after the Sabres' overtime win in Buffalo on Tuesday night.

Yes :dunno:
blindedbyfear 06-01-2006, 03:19 PM Habs fan here. Fellow Upstate New Yorker as well.
I have one thing to say.
LET'S GO BUFFALO!
I've been a Habs fan since I was small (thanks dad, may you rest in peace). I remember being read The Hockey Sweater before I went to bed at night.
I happen to be from Erik Cole's hometown. He went to the same high school as I did. Although I was a couple of years ahead of him, he was on the team when I graduated. Nice kid, nice family.
You would think this would make me a de facto Hurricanes fan. Not even close.
I love everything Erik Cole has done. But he's not on this team, and even if he was, I don't know if I could cheer for them even if that meant that the Stanley Cup would be at the Harborfest parade this summer. I hate Rod Brind'amour, I hate the "mercenaries" (Doug Weight, Mark Recchi, etc.). I hate Justin Williams, Matt Cullen, and the Adamses. Cam Ward is money, but I've seen him in the AHL and have no bitter feelings towards him. I hate Eric Staal. To the point where I wouldn't have him on my fantasy team if you gave him to me.
I hate Peter Laviolette, his attitude, and everything about that team. I hate their fans.
I've always had a soft spot for the Sabres. Most of my friends who are extremely knowledgeable hockey fans are Sabres fans. The stupid ones like the Rangers (OMG Mark Messier, Jaromir Jagr lol), and now the Hurricanes. My first live NHL playoff game was a Sabres game. Hockey belongs in Western NY, it belongs in Buffalo. The Cup belongs in Buffalo. I'm not a big Tom Golisano fan as a person, but he gets carte blanche from me pretty much for keeping the Sabres there.
I love Rick Jeanerette, I remember Mayday. I remember watching Game 6 of the 1999 finals at a friend's house, on one of my first dates with my now soon-to-be wife and seeing lifelong friends nearly cry after that goal.
I was a big Oil fan (along with the Habs, of course) growing up in the 80s. No offense to you Sabres fans, but I could live with Edmonton winning the Cup. I'd be happy for them, thrilled for the great Canadian fans on this board.
But if Carolina wins, I'm breaking things.
I'm thinking about going out tonight to watch this game, and sitting below the framed Erik Cole jersey, just to see the bandwagoners cry when Drury nails it home in dooouuubbbblllleeeee oooovvvvveeerrrtttiiiimmmmeeeee!
LET'S GO SABRES!

Ah, the ironies of text matching.
sacre_bleu 06-01-2006, 03:35 PM Life's this game of inches. So is hockey.
Because in either game - life or hockey - the margin for error is so small. I mean, hit 'em half a second too late or too early and you get whistled. Half a second too slow, too fast and you don't quite nail the one-timer.
The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break of the game, every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when add up all those inches, that's gonna make the ****ing difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!
In any fight, it's the guy whose willing to die whose gonna win that inch. Now, I can't make you do it. You've got to look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes. Now I think ya going to see a guy who will go that inch with you. You're gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team, because he knows when it comes down to it, you're gonna do the same for him.
That's a team gentlemen, and either, we heal as a team, or we will die as individuals. That's hockey, guys, that's all it is.
Now what are you gonna do?

Jim Carr's Rug 06-01-2006, 04:06 PM Could be a classic game tonight.
And I mean "classic" in the true sense of the word.
This could be a game thats replayed on TV twenty years from now and you'll all turn to your kids or grandkids and say, "I remember that game. That was the greatest game I ever saw. That was the greatest team I ever saw."
This could be the quintessential moment of an unbelievable dramatic story.
A team flirting with bankruptcy in a blue collar town of sports heartache... picked to finish in the bottom of a pile... a bunch of nobodys... injuries after injuries...
This could be a night of dreams.
This could be a night of heros and goats.
This could be their night, our night, your night.
Go Sabres!

Tell me about it. Its game seven of a conference final and you would think someone would have a pre game show . Nope, nothing. Nobody wants to come on board. Nobody wants anything to do with the NHL.

All right, I just got done watching Miracle, now I'm listening to the music from the battle scene from The Chronicles of Narnia...I'm ready.
I know we've gone through all of the inspiring quotes, especially from Miracle, but there was one other that I wanted to include, just in case the ride ends tonight.
Patty Brooks: Herb, there's no disgrace in losing to this team.
Herb Brooks: Yeah, I know.
Patty Brooks: The important thing is, you got this far.
Herb Brooks: The important thing?
Herb Brooks: The important thing is that those twenty boys know in twenty years, they didn't leave anything on the table. They played their hearts out. That's the important thing.
Knowing this team, so far they've played their hearts out and I don't think any of them have left anything on the table. And win or lose, you can't ask for anything more than that.

I agree. Uber fast. Some of those Buffalo forwards were playing with it all hanging out. I liked to see that. Carolina's goal was a flukey piece of junk. We're still in it.

Rhett4 06-01-2006, 07:21 PM So if I'm in the Sabres room... I'm thinking is that all the Canes have got?
Yeah. One flukey goal in front the home crowd on a banged up defense...I'm not impressed. Briere and Drury both looked close to netting a couple. This is their night. Make it count, boys.
Adiemus 06-01-2006, 07:24 PM I want Paetsch to net one he had a good shot in the first and his name is cool :)
