Does anyone know where I can find att. stats? I looked on the CHL site and OHL site, but can't find them. If you also have links to WHL and QMJHL att. stats, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I found this from http://www.rinkratmag.com/noof.html
which is an OHL message board site

the poster was Magellan (thanks Magellan who did a better job than you will ever see on OHL or CHL websites)

OHL / CHL ATTENDANCE SUMMARY – OCTOBER 2003

This is an unofficial attendance report for the OHL and the CHL as a whole, valid as of the end of October 2003. All figures are based upon the official summaries as published on various CHL websites. Arena sizes are based on Total Capacity (rather than Seating Capacity) and include Standing Room. I have used various sources for the arena capacities. Hopefully this will be of interest.

Junior Hockeytown?

This figure is derived from dividing the average attendance into the population of the census metropolitan area (based on the latest census figures) the team is based in. While I am aware that some teams (such as the Q’s Acadie-Bathurst) draw from a very far-flung region, using the CMA figures ensures objectivity. The percentage can roughly be translated into the % of the townsfolk at the game on average, also the relative importance of the team as a function of the city.

1. Owen Sound - 7.7%
2. Sarnia - 4.5
3. Peterborough - 3.5
T4. Belleville - 3.2
T4. Sault Ste.Marie - 3.2
6. Guelph - 2.7
7. Barrie - 2.3
8. Sudbury - 2.0
9. Saginaw - 1.9
10. London - 1.7
T11. Erie - 1.4
T11. Kitchener - 1.4
13. Kingston - 1.3
T14. Oshawa - 1.0
T14. Windsor - 1.0
16. Ottawa - 0.9
17. Brampton - 0.6
18. Mississauga - 0.4
19. Plymouth - 0.1 ***note – I couldn’t find a reputable population figure for Plymouth, so this # is based on the population of Detroit, MI
20. St.Mike’s - 0.0

Summary:

It seems that attendance is down across the CHL this year. While there are some exceptions (such as London, Saginaw and Erie in the OHL), many teams are behind the attendance pace from last season. Not sure why this is, but it does seem to be across the board. Even my "home" team, the Belleville Bulls, are no longer pulling in crowds of 3000+ every Saturday night. In fact, by the end of October, their home opener was the only game in which the Bulls brought in more than 3000 fans. The same is repeated across the league, and the CHL as a whole. While this time of the season is traditionally weaker for attendance figures, this season seems to be weaker than previous years.

However, there are some bright spots. The JLC has made London one of the top teams in the CHL for attendance, and they are now in a position to challenge perennial Attendance crown contenders Ottawa, Halifax, Calgary and Spokane. It is also interesting to note the effect that Sidney Crosby has had on the QMJHL. The Rimouski Oceanic are BY FAR the biggest road draw in the QMJHL, with season high crowds found all over the league whenever the Oceanic are in town. They account for the mid-October crowd of over 11000 fans in Quebec City, and the 10000+ crowd in Halifax. The other 2 leagues don't yet have a comparable "marquee draw" of the same magnitude.

Keep going to the games!

Hope this was of some interest!

Thats some pretty interesting stuff.

I wonder what makes Spokane draw so much? They're in Washington right?

FYI the population in Plymouth is 9,022 (in 2000). http://www.city-data.com/city/Plymouth-Michigan.html

very interesting stats, couple notes or corrections about Owen Sound however. The renovated arena only has seating for a max of 3500 for hockey, and if we're averaging over 2400 at the end of October, that equates to about 71% full.
Also, interesting to see that a city of 20,000 people and a CMA of 30,000 people is out drawing some of the large toronto centres, this certainly does show the support hockey gets here.
Owen Sound would never get a team nowadays because of the small size...

I've been to several greyhound games this year. I have been surprised at the low attendance. The price for a ticket for a greyhound game is $14. I was just wondering if that is comparible to other citys in the CHL, and if you guys think that is too high. My personally view is that the price compared to the value is about right. But that is me, and I love hockey. But if a someone was to take family of 4 to a game, now your looking at $ 56 just for tickets. (never mind Popcorn, pop etc)

The London Free Press recently reported that the London Knights have passed Ottawa for top average attendance in the OHL.

Go figure, two the the oldest barns in the league and it cost the most to get a seat in these places. I attend Spitfire games all the time and have travelled to the Soo. The only ggod thing that I can say about these old barns is that they have an incredible hockey atmosphere. Most of the newer arenas that I have visited are more comfotable, and are more convenient for washrooms and concessions. I don't understand though how they can be cheaper seats. Like I said go figure. That's Windsor though.

The Otters stats look real nice. I'm not familiar with the area; is there a strong hockey history in that area of PA?
