EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Jeff Friesen and the surging New Jersey Devils seek a fourth consecutive win Wednesday night when they host the San Jose Sharks at Continental Airlines Arena.

The Devils are coming off back-to-back one-goal wins to improve to 2-3-1 at home. On Saturday, Friesen scored with 5:27 remaining to lift the Devils to a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

Friesen, who was selected by the Sharks with the 11th pick in the 1994 draft and spent parts of seven seasons with them, has two goals in his last three games after tallying only once in New Jersey's first seven contests. The 27-year-old Friesen has two goals and six assists in eight career games against the Sharks.

Forty-two-year-old center Igor Larionov, who spent parts of three seasons with San Jose, has eight goals and 20 assists in 37 games vs. the Sharks. He has been bothered by sore ribs and may sit out Wednesday.

Martin Brodeur has played every game for the Devils and made 20 saves against the Avalanche. Brodeur is 7-5-2 with a 2.44 goals-against average lifetime against the Sharks.

Devils right wing Turner Stevenson played his second game of the season Saturday after undergoing testicular surgery. He assisted on defenseman Colin White's third-period goal and had a plus-2 rating.

The Sharks are 1-1-2 on their season-high seven-game road trip after Sunday's 2-2 tie against Atlanta. Marco Sturm scored with 2:54 remaining in the third period as the Sharks picked up a point for the third straight game and moved to 2-3-2 away from home on the season.

San Jose is 3-6-1 all time at New Jersey.

So far you've only missed one good hit from Stevens which drew a lot of ooh's and ahh's from the crowd. Didn't see who it was he caught, but it was well executed. White covered for a Niedermayer mistake in the neutral zone and Brodeur made a couple of routine saves. No really great scoring chances by the Devils yet.

Now thats some Devils enthusiasm!!! It was just a sick sick shift. Niedermayer, Madden, Langenbrunner, and Rafalski all were ripping off a ton of shots before Mad Dog did an Elias Spin-O-Rama with a backhanded no look pass right to Jamie Langenbrunner for the easy gwg. I think Berglund proved tonight that he has to be a regular. Also, I like Brian Gionta a lot, but if he doesn't start scoring some goals soon, something will have to be done, like sitting him out.

Larionov is going to be in and out of the lineup all year, it looks like. Rasmussen is doing nothing.

I would like to see this lineup for the next game, at least:

Elias--Gomez--Gionta
Brylin--Larionov/Rasmussen--Berglund
Friesen--Madden--Langenbrunner
Pandolfo--Rupp--Stevenson

Rafalski--Stevens
Niedermayer--White
Martin/Hale--Albelin/Brown

Brodeur
Schwab

I'd like to see Corey start in goal against Toronto and save Marty for Ottawa. Also, when Grant Marshall gets back, I would insert him on the Gomez line if Gionta has not started scoring.

If Balmochnykh or Suglobov start to score, I would give them a shot with Larionov and Brylin and move Berglund up to the first line with Elias and Gomez. Berglund can score goals. He should never be in street clothes unless he is injured. He has nothing more to prove IMO. Gionta has plenty to prove and he better do it soon. I am running out of patience with Little G. If necessary, demote him to the third or fourth line. We need him to score goals if he is to remain on one of the top two lines. And it wouldn't hurt if Elias and Gomez would start popping them in! Geez, it shouldn't be so hard to beat San Jose.

Is it time to give Steve Kariya or Jiri Bicek a chance with Elias and Gomez? Not any smaller than G-baby and may produce more offense.

Come back to the swamp, Alex Mogilny!
We miss you and we need you!!!!!!!!

P.S. We'll see Almo on Friday but in the wrong uni. BTW, Erik Rasmussen looks like a bust. Can he at least get a secondary assist? Is that asking too much?
And what of Sean Brown? Alas, poor Brownie, we hardly knew ye. ;)

They lied to you. It's not a reception problem. As of this season, all games that are on TWO different stations can only be viewed if you have a DirecTV (or Cable) "Center Ice" package. So, last night, the game appeared on Fox Sports Bay Area (which was on the Center Ice package) and Fox Sports New York. With the new regulations in effect, all viewers who ONLY have FSNY were blacked out. To see the game, you must have Center Ice tuned to the FSNY broadcast. Now, if the game was not broadcast on Center Ice, then you would receive the game on your regular FSNY feed, which is all good.

Yes, these new rules suck, but they are fact. Also, the reason why you received the broadcast from the first couple of games on FSNY was because they were offering the Center Ice free preview.
