DJ Spinoza 11-05-2003, 05:18 PM I don't have a link for this, sorry. But it is not a rumor.
Apparently, Edzo was being interviewed during tonight's Panthers game and said as much. I found this on the LetsGoPens.com message board, where a person who watched the game posted it.
Guess this pretty much lays aside any doubt who is the starter.
Koltsov71 11-05-2003, 05:25 PM I really wanted Caron to start this game.
JDB3939 11-05-2003, 05:28 PM Fleury weighs 170 lb. I know as a fact of being a former goaltender that he can not keep up his play this many games in a row. He will tire out rather rapidly unless Edzo gives him a few nights off.
No Quarter 11-05-2003, 05:30 PM I think if they're not gonna use Caron they should send him down to Wilkes Barre and let him play every game and pick up a jouneyman goalie and let him be Fluery's backup.
Remember Caron has a chance to be a very capable starter in the NHL. Before Fleury was even a thought Caron was our future.
To be totally honest I really like Caron and I really hate seeing his talent wasted by riding the pine.
DJ Spinoza 11-05-2003, 05:30 PM Maybe this link will work:

If you've ever been there, you know that it's set up differently than most other boards making it harder to link threads..
Anyways...
I am assuming we'll see Caron on the second game vs Tampa.
This isn't too bad a mvoe I guess. It does show confidence in Fleury. But you gotta wonder what's going through Caron's head right now...
Koltsov71 11-05-2003, 05:33 PM pick up a jouneyman goalie and let him be Fluery's backup.
Aubin could handle that job. Sitting on the bench is probably the one thing I'd trust him to do well.

No, no, no.
#1, there's simply no room for another goaltender.
#2, if you want to send down Caron, why not bring up Aubin again, or even Chiodo?
#3, Caron has the pedigree to be a capable backup, but probably not a clear-cut starter. Besides, he'll get his games in.
#4, Caron has a one-way contract. Do you really want another NHL signee playing in the minors?
Rowsdower 11-05-2003, 05:41 PM I was also hoping Caron would get a shot too......this should at least mean Caron will start vs Tampa....I don't think Edzo should play Fleury back to back nights again, no matter how well he does vs. Florida.
If we aren't going to use Caron, an idea may be to deal him (perhaps to Calgary in a deal involving Gauthier?) and let Aubin come up to backup, freeing the WB job for Chiodo....no need to bring in another goalie...keep in mind I'm not saying we should trade Caron nor am I saying we will get the right return...just pointing out that it may be a good idea to test the market if he's never gonna play....we have a goalie clog and nobody wants Aubin...
The Tang 11-05-2003, 05:43 PM i dont agree with this at all. Caron needs to play. i can understand if you want to test fleury's limits, but not at the expense of your other goalie. god, jsut give the kid a night off for once. and by the way tampa has been playing, i would rather see fleury that game.
Robert Paulson* 11-05-2003, 05:47 PM The kid needs a break. I would much rather see Caron in net in the next game.

Would Edmonton be interestd in Caron in a package for Comrie?

Very good point.
Koltsov71 11-05-2003, 05:55 PM Would Edmonton be interestd in Caron in a package for Comrie?
I wouldn't think so. They should be able to do better.
DJ Spinoza 11-05-2003, 05:58 PM I doubt anyone wants to take someone on more or less a gamble who has a contract three years after the CBA......
Caron will get his starts soon enough I'm sure. I'm interested to see the reasoning behind this though.
Don'tcry4mejanhrdina 11-05-2003, 06:43 PM Its not the end of the world. Caron will hopefully play saturday.
Don'tcry4mejanhrdina 11-05-2003, 07:57 PM Wouldn't Caron have to clear waivers?
The Tang 11-05-2003, 08:02 PM Wouldn't Caron have to clear waivers?yes, he would, and i would imagine he'd be taken by someone looking for goalie depth.
spence___ 11-05-2003, 08:03 PM yes, he would, and i would imagine he'd be taken by someone looking for goalie depth.
yeah, Florida wouldn't let him slip away.
tom_servo 11-05-2003, 08:10 PM I don't believe Caron would have to clear waivers.
spence___ 11-05-2003, 08:10 PM Yeah i was gonna say Florida too....Luongo just doesn't seem the same anymore, smart move by Mad Mike to trade his ass.
I was referring to the loss of Hurme, then Valiquette and then the acquistion of Shields. Maybe Dudley could save some face.
tom_servo 11-05-2003, 08:14 PM Yeah i was gonna say Florida too....Luongo just doesn't seem the same anymore, smart move by Mad Mike to trade his ass.
What are you talking about? Luongo -- who is leading the NHL in save percentage -- is on pace for a career season.
Koltsov71 11-06-2003, 04:11 AM Luongo just doesn't seem the same anymore, smart move by Mad Mike to trade his ass.
Where do you get this stuff from?
DJ Spinoza 11-06-2003, 10:16 AM Mad Mike seems to be one of the main reason Florida is so awful. That and their owner apparently.
Keenan can be good at some things, but I think he sucks at others...Like how to use skill forwards.
Anyways, I am almost sure tom_servo's right, Caron wouldn't have to clear waivers.
That said we don't need another NHL contract in the AHL. Plus, Caron will get his starts in time. Maybe the strategy is to let each get their games when their on a hot streak.
Caron's time will come, if Fleury ever gets off his hot streak.:p
