Hey,

I was wondering what these players chances were of making the U20 team?

Ilya Krikunov
Sergei Topol
Konstantin Mihailov
Evgeny Gladskikh

Thanks,
some canuck fan

If not mistaken, none of these have been selected for the U20 Four Nation Tournament that begin tomorrow in Finland. It doesn't look favorable for a selection for the World Junior but there will be slight changes between now and December.

How come Krikunov wasn't invited? I thought he and Ovechkin were good buddies, and played well together. Not to mention the fact Krikunov has played very very well this year. Seems rather mind boggilng why he wasn't invited.

I'm not suprised that the others didn't get invited, none have really gotten much ice time to prove themselves and garner some attention.

oh yeah, Gladskikh is too old, he was born in 82, unless they want to pull a Taiwan in the Little League World Series and say he's an 84. :rolly:

Krikunov was selected 242nd overall in the 7th round... Last year, the russian coached did not select a first round pick for the World Junior ( Babchuk). Kovalchuk ( first overall pick) could have also played as Semin and Chistov ( 5th overall pick) but NHL teams didn't let them go to the World. Russia didn't care and won the gold over Canada in the final. I mean, we have to keep in mind that there is a lot of talent in Russia. So some very talented players are not part of the U20 National Team. And that doesn't mean they won't have success in NHL.
