Hes 18 years old and already 227 pounds.

Stewart, Chris RW 6.00 227 L 10/30/1987 Kingston

After giving up the sport at age 14, Stewart fought his way back into game shape over the last two seasons. The younger brother of Florida Panther prospect Anthony Stewart, Chris has started to emerge out from under his brothers shadow. As each month passed his stock has risen as scouts began to notice what a great talent he is. Stewart is a big power forward who is a strong skater, is hard to knock off the puck and is not afraid to get physical when it is necessary (118 PIM this season). He has great hands for a big man and plays in all situations. Stewarts size, physicality, and soft hands, combined with excellent work ethic, make him a force to be reckoned with. One area of concern for Stewart was visible to scouts at the draft combine, and that was a body fat level that is too high.

Hes canadian physical and a monster on the wings. We dont have any big men with actual skill who can play on the wings. We havent had that type of power forward since Gary Roberts. If this guy is given 3 years to properly develop and not rushed into the league so he can develop injuries like antropov then he will easily become a 30-40 goal man who can stand in front of the net on the PP or just hammer defensemen coming down the wing. I really hope JFJ picks him up, he easily the diamond in the rough in this draft.

At the #13 spot? :shakehead

No way.

Sheppard, Frolik, Little >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Stewart

Maybe if those 3 are gone, we can trade down and get Stewart.

I would take Stewart before Sheppard. Stewart is the better all arround player with no flaws in his game.

Here is an article on Stewart from Mapleleafs.com.

Chris Stewart: The Toronto-born younger brother of 2003 Florida first-round pick Anthony Stewart, the 6-1, 228-pound right winger played his second season with the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs in 2005-06. He’s ranked eighth among North American skaters by Central Scouting, but 14th by The Hockey News amalgamated list - right in the Leafs range. He improved on his 30 points in 64 games in 2004-05 to score 87 points in 62 games with Kingston last season, second in team scoring and good enough for, guess what, 13th spot in OHL scoring.

Constant comparisons to Anthony, who played four seasons in Kingston, created pressure for Chris Stewart. He quit hockey for a year when he was passed over in the 2003 junior priority selection. He then made the Frontenacs as a walk-on in 2004-05.

“He’s played extremely well for us,” says Frontenacs GM Larry Mavety. “He kills penalties, plays the power play, he’s physical and he gets involved.

“Anthony was a fist-round pick, whereas Chris had to fight his way,” Mavety adds. “He’s put himself in positions to be put on the top line. He should be awfully proud of himself. He’s come a long way and overcome a lot of adversity.

“All of that speaks for itself.”

The Stewart family, with seven kids in total, grew up in a tough, low-income part of Toronto. And wouldn’t that make for a great story?: Local boy makes good with hometown Leafs.

If Sheppard isn't available, yes, take Stewart for sure.

I agree, if one of those guys are available draft them before Stewart.

I like Stewart, but he not in the same class as Sheppard, especially if your are talking in terms of who is the better all round player. Sheppard does well at very facet of the game.

Stewart is a big guy (with a potential weight problem) who skates pretty well, works hard and may or may not have NHL type skill. There is no guarantee he can put it in the net at teh NHL level.

Sheppard is a safer pick with higher upside and he can also play the wing and has done do so from time to time.

But I don't think Stewart is a terrible pick if none of Frolik, Tlusty, Sheppard, Okposo, and Bryan Little are on the board. Not my choice, but not a terrible pick.

A name I never hear people mention is Fiala. From all things that I have read on him he sounds a lot like Ales Hemsky, with defensive accumen.

I wouldn't have an issue if the Leafs took a marker on this guy either if Little and some of the aforementioned players were already scooped.

...oh, and Fiala wears the number 67... :amazed:

Scouts Take: " Enticing combonation of hulking strength and great straight away speed. Some guys are muscular and look good on the stat sheet but can't really push on people. With Chris though, he just has that natural brute strength that will allow him to dominate physically immediately in the NHL, much like a Steve Bernier. Loves to bull his way through traffic going full tilt and can be a wrecking ball in style. Has a big, thick upper body build and is extremely strong, can push around defenseman easily at this level, including the larger ones. Effective down low and can frustrate the opposition with a long cycle. is very strong on the boards and wins battles for loose pucks. Uses his size to drive the net hard with the puck on his stick, likes to go to the net and look for rebounds. Can drag players with him without showing ill effects. For his size he also possesses a powerful stride and much like his brother Anthony (Florida 1st rounder in 03) he combines his size with speed to be very difficult to contain. His first step is adaquete and is better than most players his size. His top speed is what separates him though as it's quite good and that along with his size makes him nearly impossible to stop if he gets a step on the outside. Will generate a lot of scoring chances or penalties. Can make the right pass accurately if he has time and will get most of his assist on the power play, lacks that vision of the ice to be a play maker in the NHL. Has a heavy shot like his brother, his accuracy is fine but isn't a sniper. Plays with a lot of heart, is noticably the first one in on the forecheck and the first one back checking, his work ethic is superior to his brother Anthony, and that makes him more consistantly effective and he contributes even without scoring. A kid with so much strength and speed with enough of an offensive touch to project in the top six role is very intriguing and Stewart should be a top 15 pick."

I like this scouting report on Stewart. I would love to see him in a Leafs uniform if we stay at 13. He has what the Leafs need, speed, size, power, good shot, two way play, work ethic and a good attitude. I think he would florish on a second line with Kyle Wellwood. Stewart doesn't have a weight problem if he did it would effect his skating which it doesn't. His biggest flaw if any is his playmaking ability, which wouldn't be an issue if put with a playmaker like Wellwood. I am really high on Stewart.

I can't figure out what there is to like about Fiala. I've tried to see it but I can't. I'm concerned about an '87 born player who puts up only 35 points in 51 games, at least as a first rounder. (by contrast, Hemsky put up 100 points in 68 games and he was one hockey year behind Fiala).

I'm willing to be convinced though. What do you like about him?

I like to see people getting excited about their prospect. (Some of you might not know that I am in favour of us getting Bryan Little.) So go crazy in your support of Stewart. I like him, I just have him a little lower on my list. I don't have enough confidence in his ability to be a top 2 line player.

I am also put off a little by reports of a bad combine. I think weight will be a perpetual struggle for both Stewart brothers, though they may have the drive to overcome it.

But if we pick him, I instantly become a big Chris Stewart fan.

I like the fact he has a complete game. He can do all of the little things that teams need to win hockey games.

I'm not necessarily concerned with his lack of scoring, some guys come around a little later. The thing that makes him less risky then a lot of other guys (also depends who he is playing behind) is that if he is not scoring, he is contributing in the other areas. To me, that offers a bit of a safety net in terms of risk. And the scouts don't seem to to think he is offensively limited (take that for what it is).

ISS has him compared to Patrick Elias with defensive awareness... but again, time will tell.

I am really high on Little, but I don't believe he will be there. I too would take Little over Stewart if they are both their when we pick. Little would be my perfered center outside of the top 5, Okposo is my perfered winger outside of the top 5. Outside of the top 10 I like Stewart at wing and Berglund at Center.

I would for the Leafs to draft Little even if it means trading up.

Florida:
13th pick
Kronwall

Toronto:
10th pick.

If Little is still on the board then Leafs should make this trade and get Little. :)
