2006 Nba Draft

Draft is a day away and although there doesnt seem to be any real game breakers it still has alot of good talent and the interesting thing is any player can pretty much go anywhere

Being a Celtics fan i hope they heed Paul Pierces advice and trade the #7 pick for a proven player(Celts have tons of young talent to deal Al Jefferson/Kendrick Perkins/Gerald Green/Tony Allen/Ryan Gomes....Delonte West stays!)
I wouldnt mind seeing an effort made to bring in Jermaine Oniel since it lookis like Indy is falling apart at the seams
How about #7 pick+Al Jefferson+a player making some $ for JO whose making about 16-18$per

As a Raptor fan, I'm really lookin forward to Wednesday. I wouldn't mind if the Raps traded down, added a solid veteran, and drafted either Rudy Gay or Brandon Roy. However, if they used the #1 to pick Bargnani that would be a great move as well.

My mock draft:

The NBA Draft is one of the best things on TV. The MSG Theater, everyone is mic'ed up and can be heard, the interviews with drafted, commentators killing picks just as they are made, and this year - incredibly angry Knicks fans!!!

ESPN! Coverage starts at 7 PM (est), draft at 7:30 PM! Be there!

Now I get to wonder who will fall to the Nets and #22 and #23, or whether they'll use those picks to trade up to a lottery spot. They could use a big man who can rebound and a guard who can shoot.

The Bulls will draft Thomas, but yea, this one is a crapshoot if I've ever seen one. I think Gay is a floater who will waste his talent like he did at UConn. Aldridge will be a good 15-8 player. If I had to say something about this draft, it's that there aren't any gamebreakers like Chris Paul, but there are a lot of solid players who can help immedietly. I like Brandon Roy best personally, but the Bulls are strong at guard and seriously lack size that Thomas would give them.

It's starting to look like Bargnani will be Toronto's guy at the top spot. He likely won't have to play very many minutes next season as Toronto signed Garbajosa today, the Euroleague MVP.

I kinda hope that the Raptors go after Morrison and trade for Magloire, or draft Aldridge. I wouldn't mind the Italian guy, but I'm not sure he's something they truly need. There's also talk of Charlie V getting traded to fit him in, but we'll see. But, I think they'd have an great line-up in the future were they to do one of the two things I suggested. Either:

would be great line-ups. Can't argue with adding Bargnani, either.

I'm just not sold on Morrison defensively. He's a fanastic offensive player but I don't think he'll ever be more than a below average defensive player at the NBA level. Bargnani likely won't be a gem defensively either but at least he has the length to block some shots and take up some space.

I think I am starting to come around more to the idea of the Raptors taking Bargnani, he does appear to have some huge talent, but I've only seen the highlites of his play. A frontline of Villaneuva/Bargnani/Bosh would be entertaining to say the least, at both ends of the court.

He's apparently a decent banger with a pretty good shooting touch. I've heard the comparison of Matt Bonner with defence. Apparently he's not very athletic but he has a solid motor and he really gives it his all. He sounds like a pretty solid rotation player and a guy that can at least provide some decent minutes off the bench. I'm guessing he starts out the season as the backup power forward but he'll probably get quite a few minutes while Bargnani develops. I wouldn't be shocked to see a lineup like this at times:

Peterson
Graham
Garbajosa
Bosh

Where is Hassan Adams slated to go? Man would I love to see that kid on the Suns. After watching his whole career with the cats id say hes a perfect fit.

Apparently there's not much highend talent here, but I think this draft is very deep. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm also hoping that Randy and/or Allan and/or Kyle end up on the same team so I can muster a shred of rooting interest in an NBA franchise.

It's a crapshoot as to who's gonna be left for the C's at 7, if they even keep the pick.

It sounds like Portland is madly trying to trade up in the draft to grab Morrison (in case Charlotte takes him), a deal with them could make some sense (one of Telfair or Outlaw, the 4th pick + possibly their early 2nd round pick).

Edit: Scratch that, Portland just traded Telfair to the Celtics for the 7th pick. I suppose they could still look to move up but I doubt they would part with the 7th pick (although picking 4th + 7th would be golden for the Raptors as they could potentiall grab both Bargnani and Foye/Williams).

For those watching the draft, things could get veeeeery interesting if Toronto announces Morrison as the first overall pick. That would likely mean that they have a deal in place with Portland, possibly for the 4th and 7th pick.

Making that deal would ensure that at least one of Bargnani, Thomas, Gay or Aldridge are available at the 4th spot in the draft (Bargnani is a definite possibility as I would see Morrison going first, Aldridge second and Gay third in that scenario). This would be an absolute steal for Toronto if Colangelo can make it happen.

2 Philadelphia Daily News columnists did mock drafts. 1 had Bargnani going 1st, the other had him going 9th.


I just hope the Sixers don't take someone who can't play defense. I also hope they end up with Stephen Smith in the 2nd round.

I'd love for the 1st to be traded for #4 and #7. That would allow the Raptors (in my ideal world) to get one of Aldridge, Roy or Bargnani... who are in my mind the top 3 in the draft. Plus, they would be able to get the #7 pick who, unfortunatley they would probably take Marcus Williams from UConn although I hope not. :madfire:

Well, nice pick by the Raps with Bargnani. He should be a gooder. Also, it seems like although they could've gotten him as low as 4 or 5, the offer wasn't there, so nice move by BC.

Also, I love the Maurice Ager selection by Dallas. I can really see him develop into a decent player for the Mavs.

Amazingly, Portland's unnecessary trades were just as funny as the Renaldo Balkman and Mardy Collins picks.

ASIDE: I thought it was just Rudy Gay straight up for Battier? Even if Memphis gets stuck with Swift, I think Jerry West still fleeced the Rockets.

Also i think the Celtics stole Rajon Rondo...the guy by alot of reports is the best PG in the draft and if he can develope a better jump shot then the sky is the limit

You can sell draft picks for straight up cash? Man the NBA sucks. Just a casual follower come playoff time for the Suns. paper reported they were going to sell their picks for 3 million each but apparently drafted?

Some people are in love with the NBA draft, but I find it to be a complete joke. Like gkj mentioned, half the teams are picking for other teams, so alot of guys don't even get to wear the hat of the team they'll start the next season with. Why not just allow picks to be dealt so the team that wants that certain guy can draft him.

Also, what in the hell went on with Foye and Roy? I think it was Minny that picked Roy, then Boston picked Foye, dealt him to Portland in the Telfair deal, and even though those two picks were right behind each other, they swap the two kids right after. I could understand if Portland was sending some cash or something Minny's way, like the VC-Jamison deal, but from what I've seen so far, it's just a straight up trade of the two. If it's just the two guards being dealt, what in the hell went on?

CV wasn't a 2nd round talent. CV was going to be drafted in the 1st round in his draft. The Knicks might not have even had to draft this guy.

NBA draft is pure insanity. I agree with GKJ, the draft experience for these kids are ruined by the fact that they are immediately dealt to another team once draft.

The Nets kicked everyone's tush last night.
Williams should learn a great deal from Kidd, Boone can rebound and spell Jefferson the other big men and Adams is a nice little player.
They got the depth they needed at the positions they needed it.
