Prediction
Kings 4 (Palffy 2, Visnovsky, Avery)
Canes 2 (Vasicek, Hill)
David A. Rainer 11-07-2003, 06:35 PM I'm working on a hot tip. My earth-shattering prediction will come in shortly.
LuckyLUC20 11-07-2003, 06:53 PM I heard Hacksaw on the radio say Jamie Storr was going to start for the Canes... although, it WAS Hacksaw who said it, so take that for what it's worth...
I'll say: 2-2 tie... goals by Brown and Visnovsky.
Come on Brown!
Legionnaire 11-07-2003, 09:44 PM Can the Kings complete their first ever sweep of the southeast? We should see one of Jamie's better games tomorrow which isn't good news for the Kings.
LuckyLUC20 11-07-2003, 10:32 PM http://www.latimes.com/sports/hockey/nhl/kings/la-sp-kingrep8nov08,1,1961828.story?coll=la-headlines-sports-nhl-kings
Never mind about Storr... down at the bottom of this article, one of the footnotes says that Jamie isn't going to play. The Kings will face Kevin Weekes.

Hard to believe that Hacksaw was wrong....yet again :joker:
I am on a roll here so I will predict the Canes will win with a final score of 4 - 3. Chech will start and be off by giving up 3 goals on the first 9 shots he faces and Brown/Frolov and Ziggy will all have points for us. We will mount a comeback in the final moments only to see us lose with under three mins left in the game!
Canes 4
Kings 3
Go Kings Go!
David A. Rainer 11-08-2003, 09:20 AM OK, here's my prediction...
Carolina 21
Kings 3
Carolina will get off to an early lead with a touchdown and fieldgoal in the 1st period. But the Kings will answer back with a fieldgoal of their own in the 2nd on a hattrick by Dustin Brown (hot tip says he just loves playing in the balmy Carolina weather). But Carolina will seal the Kings fate with another touchdown and 2 late safeties to make the final score 21-3. Erik Cole will have 8 goals, 8 assists and Eric Staal will chip in with a 5 of his own, and Jeff O'Neill will get 3 goals and 15 assists. By the start of the 3rd period, AM will be so frustrated that he pulls his team off the ice and puts one player on the ice at a time resulting in the rare but storied 5 on 1 powerplay for Carolina all period.
Various records that will be broken tonight:
Most goals in one game by one team (21)
Most goals in one game combined (24)
Most goals in one period (11)
Most points by one player (18)
Most assists by one player (15)
Most goals by one player (8)
Fastest Hattrick (17 secs by Dustin Brown)
... and a myriad of other I can't think of right now.

LMAO! I love your predictions. I think however, that Ziggy will take a reverse from Armstrong and score to make it 21-10 Canes
You left out the part where Am in a fit of anger throws all of the teams sticks out onto the ice only to have them picked up by a chicken in a purple cape that some idiot fan threw over the boards during play.
David A. Rainer 11-08-2003, 09:47 AM I thought of the use of some trickery and they have been working on the reverse in practice. Maybe a flea-flicker or two? I can see it happening.
And IGM, you forgot about the Carolina officials' policy against allowing any chickens in purple capes into the arena. In fact, they've employed a troop of foxes with green velvet hats with a feather in it to patrol the entrances to make sure no chickens get in. We wouldn't want to relive that Chicken-Pogo Stick incident of '97, would we?
Legionnaire 11-08-2003, 09:52 AM Then do the "release the hounds" to catch the foxes when they're done getting the chickens?
They Do! All the while playing "who let the dogs out" on the PA. Of course then they have to let the dog catchers in and then comes Anna Nichole to eat them all!
So, in the end, maybe the ban is a good thing.

Yeah, but in the end, who comes in and eats Anna Nichol :dunno:

I think I've seen a Godzilla movie that starts this way.
Just the thought of it made my gag reflex go off. I say.....umm......Billy Barty? That would be cool. How about Beatle Juice, with those nasty teeth it would be interesting. Of course, as long as she gets taken out that is all that matters.
I was trying to find a picture that I had of that Chicken on the ice during the Kings game from oh so many years ago. It actually happened right in front of my wife and I. The guy pulled out this chicken in a purple cape and threw it on the ice. They let play continue for awhile. The poor thing had crapped all over itself. (so would have I if I were in its place) The guy was trying to hide out but the people around him started giving him hell and the yellow jackets swarmed him. He did the "it wasn't me" thing but EVERYONE told him to go to hell. Funny stuff. (Sad, but funny)
Legionnaire 11-08-2003, 03:09 PM Modry scores!! 1-0 Kings.
Legionnaire 11-08-2003, 03:12 PM Boo!! Bad play by Matty. Always play until the whilstle goes.
Legionnaire 11-08-2003, 03:14 PM I hate double minors!!!! 2-1 Canes.
Sydor25 11-08-2003, 03:18 PM I actually didn't think that the PK could get any worse, but it hasn't improved and has gotten worse with the return of Miller/Norstrom.
The Kings need to make the 'Canes pay for their double minor. Especially after they wasted the 2 man advantage in the first period.
Legionnaire 11-08-2003, 03:19 PM Well at least they can clear the puck out of the zone with them back now. Woo Kings going on a 4min PP!!
Legionnaire 11-08-2003, 03:20 PM Oh and by the way, Welcome. :D
Sydor25 11-08-2003, 03:22 PM Oh and by the way, Welcome. :D
Thank you. :)
2 minutes down.
Legionnaire 11-08-2003, 03:26 PM The power play isn't looking so hot tonight.
Looks like we're getting another one though.

Looks like we're getting another one though.
The Kings are getting into a habit of standing around on the PP. Plus, we don't have a second unit. :(
This could be the third loss this year against a team they should beat. :(
At least Dallas is keeping the Kings close to the top of the Pacific.
Legionnaire 11-08-2003, 03:35 PM True, but think about it like this, we beat two teams that (we should've beaten in previous years but never did) we hadn't beaten before.
LuckyLUC20 11-08-2003, 03:47 PM shots on goal:
24 Kings... 9 Canes
This is starting to look like Canucks/Kings part 2. ugh!
Sydor25 11-08-2003, 03:51 PM Bigger Problem:
PP's:
Kings 0-5
'Canes: 2-2
LuckyLUC20 11-08-2003, 03:54 PM yea, that is pretty sad.
we start with a PP right now after Ward roughed up Brownie.
Come ON KINGS!
LuckyLUC20 11-08-2003, 04:13 PM so... 0 for 7 now on the PP.
yikes.
Sydor25 11-08-2003, 04:29 PM so... 0 for 7 now on the PP.
yikes.
PALFFY!!!
At least we get a point. Now send out Palffy for the whole 5 minute OT. :)
Face Wash 11-08-2003, 04:32 PM Ya know what... kudos to the ref who made a proper, but still gutsy call on Hedican. It was the proper call and a fair call..
Face Wash 11-08-2003, 04:36 PM That's OK.... I thought the Kings were absolutely terrific tonite... even with the OTL... If they play like that everynight, they'll win the division... Of course, they won', but... Great game tonite. OTL aside..

I totally agree. :yo: I thought we played excellent in the Vancouver game as well. This team just seems to be clicking.....Maybe that's why Cammy was sent down, AM didn't want to mess with the chemistry.
Sydor25 11-08-2003, 04:42 PM Very strong game 5-5 (and 4-4), but the special teams are starting to be a big problem this year. You can't keep giving up 2 PP goals against and expect to win in the NHL. They say your PK is only as good as your goaltender, but the Kings are giving up a lot of shots in the slot and a lot of rebounds aren't being cleared out of the crease.
5 out of 6 points on the road is a good start, now let's get 7 for the trip. :handclap:

cechmanek was not sharp tonight at all. maybe we should trade for kevin weekes.
still, though, overall a good game, frolov in particular looked very good. he was making things happen with every shift. on the other hand, i thought klatt was pretty ineffective.
GoKingsGo28 11-08-2003, 04:51 PM I agree that we had an outstanding game. But we did have 8 PP chances. Should've cashed in. Oh well, good game.
Captain Ron 11-08-2003, 04:52 PM Hey look at the bright side. The Kings are tied for first place in the Pacific. :handclap: :handclap: :handclap:
David A. Rainer 11-08-2003, 05:09 PM Anyone else catch the good old fashion ass-whoopin' Tampa Bay is laying on Pittsburgh? Taking out their frustrations on Pit. after we shut them out. Yikes!
LuckyLUC20 11-08-2003, 05:41 PM that was some game!
I'm disappointed that we couldn't get that extra point, but I'm satisfied with one. I predicted a 2-2 tie... so I was half right, I guess...lol
I agree with Sydor, PK needs to be more sharp. But BIG props to Carolina's PK. Big props to Kevin Weekes, for the most part, he stood on his head. This was one of the Kings' best games so far this season. Ziggy Palffy is proving why he is a world class player. Go Ziggy!!! They completely dominated and spent the majority of the game in the Cane's zone. I wish they started Jamie Storr...lol.
The Kings are 2-0-0-1 on this road trip so far. Not bad! :yo:
jfont 11-08-2003, 05:53 PM that was a great game by the kings. the ice was tilted on the opposing team's end most of the night. too bad they didn't capitalize most of the 30 something shots on goal. but a great game nonetheless...i'll take the one point though it would have been great if 2 points were taken tonight.
palffy continues to amaze...i really think he should be considered a top 3 player in the nhl this year. just wish the kings and palffy could consumate a long term deal after this season.
as far as the PK goes, this team is pretty much has the same personnel as 2 seasons ago that was amongst the top PK units in the league...and i believe it could become one again...i think they'll hit their stride in the very near future...
I love Harpo. I have met him a bunch of times and even went fishing with him and Larry Playfair back in the day but if he can't do something to improve this debacle that we call a special teams effort soon then it may be time for us to find something else for him to do. I don't blame the personell for the troubles either. I see allot of teams with WAAAAY lesser talented players do a much much much much much better job then we are so far this season. We have the best scoring from the blue line there is and this is the best we can do on the PP AND the PK?
Bad news. Other than that, great game by the team. It does bother me that Chech gave up 3 goals when he faced so few shots though. He is a very good goalie and all of the Flier fans say that this is the way that he has started every year and that he just keeps getting better as the year goes on. I hope that WE can keep this type of an effort up for the rest of the year so that when Chech is at his best we can be at ours. Imagine what will happen when RC is on fire and we are playing our best. Scarry stuff.
Solid effort for us except where the special teams is concerned but for this year, what else is new?
Oh, and again we saw Sim (2:32 seconds) Pirnes (2:45 seconds) and Klatt (3:o2) of PP time while Frolov saw 31 seconds of PP and 33 of PK. Brown was on teh ice for a total of 8:mins 53.
Of course the reason that nobody saw much time on the PK is that they scored on both of thier opps pretty quickly and nobody had more than 38 seconds of PK time so there isn't much to blame on the amount of time spent where that is concerned.
I still have to question why we are seeing our energy guys sucking up (without success) all of this PP time when some of our gifted scoring forwards are sitting on the bench. I have no problem with Army/Palffy and Luc seeing all of the time that they are getting and heck, if they were able to stay out there for all of the time on special teams that would be ok with me. I just have a hard time justifying why second rate scoring threats (solid energy/grinding forwards though) are getting so much time on the actual PP. If it was the PK you could make the argument that they are the right guys to be out there as that is their specialty.
Tonight we did see Pirnes Sim Charty all get as much PK time as anyone else did and that is a good thing.
I can't see why Frolov is getting dogged the way he is when it comes to PP time from Andy. The kid has proven that he has the skills and if the number one unit is doing too much standing around then why not sit Luc for a shift and let Frolov get in there for a chance. The more he sits in those situations the less he learns.
Granted, we don't have Stympy in and I have heard that when we get back that Deader AND Stympy will both be playing and that should change things for the better but still, why put the kid behind the 8ball.
I would like to have seen at least for a little bit of one of our 8 PP's a little Brown Frolov Army or even Klatt Ebell Frolov to see if they could do anything. We will never know when our second unit consists of grinders who, while CAN pop in the lucky PP goal once in awhile, are just not suited to that type of play.
Oh well, I will put the soap box away. We played a good game and can only get better. We are tied for first and not that far out (3 points at this time) of over all and we are doing it without Stympy/Allisomething and Deader. Three of our top forwards. Absolutely amazing and a major tip of the hat to AM for having the team even be this close.
Go Kings Go.
Face Wash 11-09-2003, 04:37 AM The PK has been bad... and I won't make excuses for it, but...
When you don't have your top two defensive defensemen to start the season, it's going to suffer, I don't care who else is on your team.
Last night in the Carolina Game, the goal was scored on what should have been an icing call... And if the Canes did touch it, which I still haven't seen a reply to show that they touched it, then either the near linesman or Cechmanek did an attrocious job of communicating the waved off icing to the Kings defenseman (Matty I believe) who played the puck clearly as if it were going to be icing. I think we can assuredly assume (even though Norstrom blames himself in the paper today) that he would have played the puck a bit differently if he'd known that icing had been waved off.
So the tying goal by the Canes was kind of a fluke. The second PP goal was Cechmanek losing sight of the puck, generated by the momentum they got from the flukie (questionable) PP goal they'd scored a minute before.
Glad the Kings gotta point, they didn't deserve to lose in regulation...

adversity like that happens, and is unavoidable. while you'd like to see them recover quickly enough to avoid giving up a second goal, it was still very gratifying to see them get it together, dominate, and then eventually salvage a point. they showed some good mental toughness last night.
