Ducks @ Coyotes

If the Coyotes sweep the home&home against the ducks then they will be back in the playoff race. A split means that not much has changed and they are still struggling. A loss&loss means disaster and, even though it's early in the season probably means we're in the race for the #1 overall pick. I still like the makeup of this team and will predict a Coyote's sweep. Looking for big things from Branko and Gratton. It's time for more balanced scoring. Brk&Brk are the key players and will have strong games. The winless streak will be soon be ancient history and everone will be racing to the stores to buy new jerseys.

is it wrong to hope for that first overall pick?

Seriously we have to win at least one of these games. If we don't I wouldn't be shocked if there is some sort of shakeup. There's no excuses. Our team is relatively competitive. Nothing against him but Branko Radivojevic cannot be our best player if this team is going to win many hockey games. Langkow especially has to pick up his play. This is the worst I've seen him play as a Coyote. Isn't this a contract year for him?

Nope. If they continue to tank, it would be worthwhile to trade Burke and start working in Bierk and Pelts. But finishing last is no gaurantee of the #1 pick because of the lottery.

I still think this team is competetive, but this team will only improve if Nagy, Branko, KK, Cleary, Tanabe, and Taffe achieve a higher level of play and have breakout years. With everyone else we have to view them as fairly well known commodities that have reached their respective levels. A year or two of very high picks would in the long run give us a much better team but I am still not hoping they tank. But if they do, I agree that there will be a shakeup. This weekend will be very important.

While I agree with most everything posted here in this thread I have to point out that Branko looked like he was trying to take advantage of his time on the line with Langkow and Nagy. It really does show how much Johnson is the glue on that line. But seriously at times Branko looked like he could play on that line and I thought he had kicked it up a notch.

The coaching staff loves this guy.......

He is the only one that will slam on the jets halfway through the 3rd to force the other guy to hustle for an icing call.

amazing work ethic, we need more of that.

Im hoping that we lose both, in a pathetic manner. That would be absolutely horrible PR and francis can kiss his ass goodbye. Its about time, im sure even Marty can get this team going.

And it would be devestating to tank the season and not get the #1 overall, just think about that...

As long as they finish bottom 3 they are guaranteed one of Ovechkin, Olesz, Schremp, or Barker. If they finish bottom 3, because of the lottery, the are guaranteed a top 4 pick.

Do the coyotes get a 2nd rounder from Vancouver for signing May? Anyhow, we do have some extra 2nd rounders this year. Anyone know how many?

The 2nd rounder was conditional if May re-signed with Vancouver before the 2003 draft as it was a 2003 draft pick. He didn't sign until July, so we receive no additional compensation for him.

I don't ever like to see this team lose!:shakehead

However, I know, that there is no way, that they can afford to trade for talent like Ovechkin. I don't want to be negative, but to all the people that think this team is competetive, they will not go anywhere, any time soon. Rather than finishing in 'nowhere land' - close to the playoffs (but no cigar), why not have the best odds at pickin' a 'wunder kid' first overall...?

I agree somewhat...I say it's playoffs or lotto pick, nothing in between. I would be happy with either for it's own benefits.

Yotes win in OT, Suchy with the game winner. Nagy has a big night.

Moving like a sinusoid so far: 3 wins - 3 losses - 3 ties - 3 losses - 3 wins (??) - 3 ties (???) :)

If Yotes beat Anaheim and Colorado I'll be happy with three ties coming next again. :)

I don't care how they did. I don't when they did it. I don't care who did it. As long as the Coyotes won tonight I am relieved.

The team has played much ebtter the last two games. Now let's go for all 4 points.

suprise surprise. Ference got to watch the game from the pressbox. A good move by Francis and one that the rest of the team will take notice of.

an entertaining game. i hate agreeing with Brian Hayward, perhaps the worst color commentator in the game today, but the refs were watching an entirely different game. when it wasn't chaos they called penalties and then the put the whistles away and chaos ensued. i don't get it. i can see why the players don't get it. how do you prepare yourself if you don't know what a penalty is anymore.

Doan and Nagy had monster games.

Hulse has really been a steady presence out there. He's no Keith Carney but he fills a role. Mara was not as visible last night though. He can play better. I didn't cringe when Spiller was on the ice. Just a safe, solid game by this group.

What happened in the faceoff circle? We were destroyed.

Kolanos and Langkow have to play better. I'm probably being hard on Langkow but Kolanos may need to see some games from the pressbox. I'm tired of watching him not skate, not shoot, not create chances. Hell, he doesn't do much of anything when he's on the ice. He deserves to sit.

Gratton and Savage seem to have a bit of chemistry.

I can see why everyone hates Tyson Nash. I think I do too and he plays on our team.

is burke starting? hope you guys can pull this one out!

some other news (RE: Burke):

"Brian Boucher, Phoenix Coyotes - Coyotes GM Mike Barnett seemed to imply on Saturday that he may have some developments on the goalie front, as far as his team is concerned. When asked if he was close to trading one of his keepers, Barnett responded by saying "ask me on Monday". It is believed that the Coyotes would prefer to trade Boucher but since it's a longshot that any team will trade for him (considering they could have gotten him for free off waivers before the season began), the team may be forced to look at trades for the veteran Sean Burke, who would in turn fetch more in return. However, the market for goalies in the NHL is pretty bad right now, so the Coyotes will need some help if they want to make a trade happen."

Could this be the reason Taffe has been kept in the minors?

No offense at all, but what is the source? I'm just curious to read it, and curious how reliable the source is.

Well this was in the Arizona Republic if it helps any:

Goalie deal?

Asked moments before Saturday night's game if he was any closer to trading one of his three goalies on the roster, Barnett offered an intriguing answer.

"Ask me on Monday," he said. "Nothing's probably going to happen (today), but check back with me on Monday."

If Phoenix continues to struggle, there is some thought in the organization that No. 1 goalie Sean Burke might be traded to a contender to squeeze the most value out of him. The general consensus, however, is that the Coyotes want to keep Burke and Zac Bierk and move Brian Boucher.

But when Boucher and his $2 million salary were left unprotected during last month's NHL waiver draft, no other team was interested.

probably a buy out with Boucher. I think that is the most likely scenario at this point in time.

If that is the case, you won't hear me complain...
