Last night's game against Carolina showed precisely why DT was right for not trading Belanger away. The tying goal with 22 seconds last night was brought to you by Belanger... nice finish of course, by Ziggy, but it was the vision and passing of Belanger, not to mention a face-off win in the defensive zone to start the play by Eric, that got it all going.
No one gave him credit for that play, but he's becoming the Guy Carbonneau-like player I always knew he could be out there.
Best defensive forward on the team by far. Top 20 or so NHL faceoff guy with good offensive skill to make the players around him a bit more dangerous than they actually are. Took 7 stitches last night, came right back in... Cuz he's a hockey player.
I love this guy!!!

That was a beautiful pass by Belanger. Usually players would be rushing to shoot at the net. He had enough sense to know that Palffy was open and passed the puck right on Palffy's stick. Clutch!!!

The funny thing is... if you watched the game, you could literally see the play develop... and it was exactly what the Kings needed to do given how Weekes was seeing and stopping all the initial shots take all night.
The only thing that was going to work last night was to force him to shift across... make the extra pass.
I never can understand why Weekes has never been able to keep a job in the NHL. He's always dominated the Kings!! :dunno:
I love Ebell and think his best days are ahead of him but lets not get crazy here yet. Carbs was one of the best at what he did and while Ebell is becomming very good at playing as a two way forward with grit he isn't close to the model of consistancy that Guy was, yet.
I am glad we kept Ebell and there are only a few players that I would deal him for and then, only if I had to. Guys like him can be just as important to winning a cup as players like ZP. Lets hope that Ebell can keep becomming the kind of player that GC was. That would be awsome.

I think it's sick the way Belanger can pick that upper right corner of the net. He needs to shoot more often.

Didn't he used to be an offensive machine in the minors or something before he made it to the big league? So obviously he's got some skills.

Lappy was an offensive dynamo in juniors too... :p
But, yeah, Belanger does have offensive talent. He seems to thrive in a more energy-oriented role though.

At one point he was being talked up by Kings management as the future of the organization. But, he ran into some injuries in the AHL, and by the time he recovered, for one reason or another, his offensive production tailed off. In order to have a better chance at making the Kings roster, he decided to focus on developing into more of a defensive player.
