I read this off ESPN:

"On to last summer's draft where Keenan, who often had Cohen's ear, was sitting at the Florida draft table. According to several sources, Keenan called Cohen on his cell phone to argue against a pick Dudley was preparing to make. When Cohn called Dudley at the table to express the concerns expressed by Keenan, Dudley was furious. He left the floor and had to be coaxed back out before the Panthers ran out of draft time."

I really doubt Keenan was complaining about Dudley wanting to pick Horton, so I wonder who Dudley was preparing to choose. :dunno: Does anyone know anything more about this? :shakehead

I'm still surprised Dudley drafted Horton. I would have been willing to bet the farm that Zherdev was going to be his pick. Dudley has always been a sucker for skilled Europeans.

If ESPN's report is accurate, I suspect Zherdev was the guy Dudley was ready to pick.

Could have been Michalek as well. Some time before the draft, Dudley said that Michalek was the best all-around player available. Several teams had him rated as the no. 2.

I think Zherdev or Staal. But I had a suspicion that Dudley was going to pick Michalek.

Dudley interviewed Horton numerous times before the draft (Zherdev never went I believe due to visa problems?), Horton is definitely the guy Dudley wanted because they already knew Carolina wanted Staal so we would have never went down from #1 without being 100% sure and this was all planned weeks ahead of the draft, I'm willing to bet it was Kamil Kreps.
