A French lawyer intends to sue the FIFA, claiming that the referee watched a video excerpt to find out that Zidane headbutted Materazzi.
He asks for the world cup final match to be cancelled.
The FIFA refeering exclude the use of video material during a match (as we know).
Not sure it is possible to sue the FIFA, what do you think?

lol sorry my bad
norrisnick 07-15-2006, 02:46 PM Ok, how 'bout the Italians get DQ for the nasty terrible things said by Materazzi and/or the video replay...
The French get DQed for Zidane going aggro on the Italian...
So... Deutschland Wins!!
Sound fair? Yes? Good.
Evilo 07-15-2006, 02:52 PM I hope this trial fights the good fight : not the WC win, but the fact that video replays can save a ref's ***. Here, nobody saw it.
A headbutt like that should never ever result in anything other than a red card.
Yet if not for the video, ZZ wouldn't have been sent off (according to both benches).
BigTimer* 07-15-2006, 02:58 PM It was clear as day that no ref saw the incident so in theory Zidane shouldn't of even gotten a yellow. Obviously it's not right but it's the rules.
Has anyone got any video footage of the ref looking at video footage? If not, there's no case.
BubbaBoot 07-15-2006, 03:17 PM Jeez, and I thought it was only US lawyers that were shameless shysters who'll file any type of suit at the drop of a hat if there was at least a nickel profit that could be attained.....
BCCHL inactive 07-16-2006, 01:21 AM Hector Vergara (FIFA Assistant Referee ..worked Germany-Italy) was on Fox Sports World Report the other night, and he said that the headbutt was not shown in the stadium.
Case closed.

It wasn't shown in the stadium giant screens. It was shown on the small screens near the benches.
Both coaches said so. I think it's fair to say that they have no reason to lie (especially the italian coach).

Thats because the stadium feed is different to the TV feed. They may have had both feeds on the sidelines.
Was the offence worthy of a red? Yes
Did any ref on the field see it? No
Conclusion: Zidane shouldn't have been carded as replays are not supposed to be used

Prove it.
Evilo 07-17-2006, 03:00 AM We have words from both benches against words from the 4th ref at fault.
Who do we trust???
xalcyx 07-17-2006, 09:30 AM If this lawyer was of another nationality this suit would carry far more respect in my book.
This is nothing but sour grapes as far as I'm concerned, and there is no way it will fight the good fight.

I don't know.
France has been the leader for usage of video.
The french league wants to use it, and has made several proposals to the FIFA board (all denied).
Video assistance is pretty big in France, and to see a french player (deservely) "screwed" by "unofficial" video only reinforces the notion of the importance of it.
FearTheFlyers 07-17-2006, 09:51 AM Prove it.
Because he went to the linesman to clearly ask him what happened?
It was obvious the ref didn't see it.

Duh.
If you would read the comment, AtG stated that no referee on the pitch saw it and has concluded that the 4th official used video. It was a completely baseless comment as he obviously has no means to prove it.

:amazed:
Haven't you read the whole thread?
The TWO COACHES stated it.
Not only is the accusation based on how everyone felt on the field, but it's confirmed by the two coaches.
