Hillenbrand a San Francisco GiantBruinaholic 07-21-2006, 11:46 PM per ESPN.....color me unimpressed Blades of Glory 07-21-2006, 11:50 PM Great news! We have a 1B! **** I just learned it was Accardo going the other way. If Jeremy ever learns how to control his splitter, he's a closer waiting to happen. Congrats on getting a guy with a 99 MPH fastball and a closer makeup, Blue Jay fans. I'm not a fan of giving up Accardo, but I'm guessing the Giants will go get Mike Gonzalez for PIT now. parabola 07-21-2006, 11:52 PM Who knows what they got in return. Blades of Glory 07-21-2006, 11:59 PM Who knows what they got in return. Jeremy Accardo and a prospect. Vinnie Chulk also goes to SF. Read my first post for a scouting report of Accardo. acr* 07-22-2006, 12:02 AM Congrats to Sabean for getting a guy who makes Barry Bonds only my SECOND least favorite Giant. Live in the Now 07-22-2006, 12:04 AM I'm glad the Giants got him. I didn't want him as a Dodger. David Puddy 07-22-2006, 12:27 AM Shae Hillenbrand couldn't be a bigger distraction than Barry Bonds. ATG 07-22-2006, 12:32 AM Looks like Kent has been replaced by Shea, new whipping boy in town for big bad Barry Vyse 07-22-2006, 12:33 AM great trade for the Jays, Accardo looks pretty good and he doesn't even need to be the closer with the jays, all they need a good 7th/8th inning pitcher and I believe they got one Chulk can rebound and be a good reliever but he has struggled a lot this season. willie 07-22-2006, 03:42 AM I can't say I know a lot about Accardo but I can't help but love this deal. To get a clear upgrade in the bullpen is huge and he is still young. And, honestly, this team is better with Hillenbrand out of the lineup. Zaun, Johnson & Catalanotto have all outhit Shea but with the platoons, have not been able to see as much pt as they deserve to. Now they have Phillips so they can confidently use Zaun/Molina at the DH. Plus Hinske has been solid and Adams is still a quality young left bat who just needs maturing. Being able to get him perhaps a few more at bats could be good for his development. You always want depth but this team is absolutely stacked hitting wise and losing Hillenbrand's bat is almost irrelevent. The ability to get our platoon guys in the lineup more often coupled with an improvement in the bullpen easily outweighs losing his bat. This team is far from dead. Even if they just split the next 2 with NY, taking 3 of 4 overall, they have the hitting to smash their way into the playoffs. They own Boston head to head and can gain ground that way. Plus suddenly the Wild Card is wide open and you know Minny/Chi/Det are going to smash up on each other. Getting rid of Hillenbrand could be a watershed moment for the season. If Halladay/Burnett/Lilly can win close to 3 of every 4 down the stretch (plausible) and the other 2 can just win a few, they have a realistic chance. It won't be easy but it's never going to be matching up with teams that spend that much money. FearTheFlyers 07-22-2006, 10:27 AM When's Chacin back? Unholy Diver 07-22-2006, 10:28 AM has there ever been a more medicre player get this much pub? Jaysfanatic* 07-22-2006, 11:05 AM When's Chacin back? August 8th is what they've targetted. I love the deal, and my dad is going to be ecstatic to see Chulk gone, **** you Shea. Tuggy 07-22-2006, 11:20 AM has there ever been a more medicre player get this much pub? One done, Frasor to go Jaysfanatic* 07-22-2006, 12:40 PM Shea is a legend in his own mind. He compared himself to Jeff Bagwell :biglaugh: Blades of Glory 07-22-2006, 12:48 PM His OBP is not too good for the batting average he has, but the .300 avg and 12 HR sure will be nice batting in the #3 or #6 hole. Brad Tolliver 07-22-2006, 12:57 PM Two words: AJ Pierzynski. Blades of Glory 07-22-2006, 01:08 PM Two words: AJ Pierzynski. Don't care. That 2004 (Pierzynski) team won 91 games a group of guys that weren't exactly great. At this point, winning is the only thing that matters. For the first time in arguably 17years, the Giants actually have a very tight-knitted clubhouse, and I'm not too worried about one person disrupting that. TorontoSports 07-22-2006, 01:49 PM Accardo sounds promising. Death Taxes Conacher 07-22-2006, 04:44 PM Two words: AJ Pierzynski. You say that like it's a bad thing. I wish more players were like AJP. Anthony* 07-22-2006, 05:38 PM yeah we need more players to knee their team trainers in the balls for trying to help them Reign Nateo 07-23-2006, 09:22 PM Good deal for the Jays. Hillenbrand is a headcase and does more damage than good as he is literally CRAZY. Accardo looks to have some upside and that is all you could ask for in a deal like this. Chulk will be a decent releiver but has very limited potential. Boston 07-24-2006, 09:52 PM Chulk sucks. He is like the David Tanabe of baseball. Biggsy 07-24-2006, 10:07 PM Chulk sucks.
