Brian McBride, the only American player to score in two different World Cups, is retiring from international soccer.

Unable to finish consistently, he's still one of the best Americans ever. I'll miss him in 2010.

I could talk about all the goals he scored with Columbus in MLS.
I could talk about his impressive work with the US Men's National Team.
I could talk about his head, what with it putting balls in the net and having about 10 metal plates in it.
I could even talk about how well he has done at Fulham of the EPL, winning the team's Player of the Year award last season, IIRC.
But I'd rather sum it up with this:

McBride didn't back down from anyone and kept on playing. An excellent player, what some would call "class." When I got a USMNT jersey, I asked for Keller #18 to be on the back; in retrospect, I should have put McBride on it instead.
One of the few American players I liked watching, deadly with his head

Materazzi can use his head well too. Just ask France.

Farewell, McHead. One of the all time USMNT greats. Ill never forget his emotion after scoring vs Portugal. He will certainly be missed. best of luck with FFC.
