Think about it, you have all these clubs selling players for outlandish money, it just seems like a complex slave trade.
Soccer = Modern day slave trade?Jaysfanatic* 07-27-2006, 12:17 PM Think about it, you have all these clubs selling players for outlandish money, it just seems like a complex slave trade. It helps that the slaves are making more money than I'll likely see in my lifetime. Its no different than hockey clubs owning a players right to make a living in a country. Even when the contracts expire to RFAs. les Habs 07-27-2006, 12:48 PM This is a disgusting analogy for two reasons: 1 The plight of a footballer is nowhere near that of someone who is or was in slavery. 2 Players have every bit as much power as their clubs. Actually I think they have more power in most instances. Besides, nobody puts a gun to a player's head to sign a contract. kacz 07-27-2006, 12:52 PM Regular people envy professional footballers because they have the dream job, xalcyx 07-27-2006, 01:42 PM Think about it, you have all these clubs selling players for outlandish money, it just seems like a complex slave trade. in fact the players have much more power than players in the NA sports. While they are 'sold' these sales are subject to contracts being agreed, etc etc. The player ultimately has the final say in whether he moves, unlike in hockey where you can wind up on the bottom team in an instant.... helicecopter 07-27-2006, 02:14 PM in fact the players have much more power than players in the NA sports. Fish on The Sand 07-27-2006, 05:23 PM Regular people envy professional footballers because they have the dream job, the same way regular people envied the slaves back in the 19th century. Think about it. The slaves got a free place to stay, free food, a very stable/secure job and on top of it all didn't have to pay taxes. DevilFisch 07-27-2006, 05:54 PM This was ridiculous when Warren Sapp made a similar claim about football players. No one is forcing anyone to play a sport, go to an academy, or even sign a contract with a club. This is dumb. Evilo 07-28-2006, 03:11 AM OK, I think this thread has gone beyond the ridiculous line. | ||
