Kolzig is a pretty typical large frame butterfly goalie. You've never seen him play?

it's for my espn game, i have as follows:

butterfly: 90
stickdown: 90
standup: 75
sprawl: 60
stack pads: 50

i just wanted to get a caps fan perspective, that's all.

any more info on the way he plays would be great, uch as does he flop like hasek at all?

how often does he go down? does he play a standup stlye on close shots?

what's his breakaway technique?

Kolzig is a very large butterfly goalie. He uses his size and his ridiculous flexibility to cover the crease instead of shuffling around like a more technical goaltender. In other words, he doesn't move his entire body, but just stretches an arm or a leg. He almost never flops around and rarely employs the 'stick down' technique. He likes to challenge the shooter and come out far from the crease to cut down angles, unlike a guy like Potvin, who stays closer to the net.

this research form looks silly. butterfly goalies don't play stand up. stand up is a style unto itself and is by its description completely different from a butterfly goalie. Kolzig plays the percentages like butterfly goalies do. He goes down on any difficult shooting situation as all butterfly goalies do. He rarely stacks his pads except in desperation.
His breakaway style is to stay square to the shooter, then butterfly, the if its a deke he uses the affore mentioned flexibility to stretch a leg pad back to the post. with the shooter that close they often can't get the puck over the pad. Kolzig in desperation will do a Hasek style roll over and has made one highlight real save that way this year. BUT, he is a straight forward butterfly goalie in the Roy mold.
