NassauIsles82* 08-13-2006, 02:45 PM Ryan Howard
41 Home Runs -106 RBI's- .297 BA..And counting
Salary= 355,000
A-Rod
24 Home Runs- 84 RBI's- .285 BA..And counting..Maybe
Salary= 26,500,000
This pisses me off being a Yankee fan.
Tuggy 08-13-2006, 02:47 PM You Yankee fans are funny...ya ARod's contract has really hampered them from gettting players. :rolleyes:
Dr Love 08-13-2006, 03:09 PM What's your point? The Yankees couldn't have gotten Howard unless they drafted him, but you can say that about every team but the Phillies. You're also not taking into account defense, that ARod signed that contract with another team and that the Yankees don't pay all of that contract.
NassauIsles82* 08-13-2006, 03:27 PM Just for shi*s and giggles, no need to get all serious with your Anti-Yankee complexes.

Anti-Yankees complex? You've got the wrong guy.
Renegade of Funk 08-13-2006, 04:32 PM howard is not entitled to that kind of money yet, it is hi sophomore season

First the Yankees are only paying 16,ooo,ooo a year for ARod so you can't be pissed off about the 26 million just 16 million. And second when ARod was 26 the same age as Howard this year he already had well over 200+ career Hr's. As a Yankee fan myself the thing that pisses me off is that a team with this type of firepower can go through stretches where they only put up 3 or 4 runs a game and they are all solo homers.
Hawker14 08-13-2006, 04:59 PM 99% of major leaguers would love to have their "bad" year be as good as A-Rod's this year.
Blades of Glory 08-13-2006, 05:15 PM Sure I'd take Howard over Rodriguez this season. But people seem to look past the fact that Alex Rodriguez is the best player in the league, and is on pace to be the best baseball player of all-time.

Exactly. A-Rod frustrates me as any other inconsistant superstar would. But the hate that gets unleashed on him is unbelievable--if he hits a homerun when they're down 5-0 it's "why didn't A-Rod hit a homer when the game was still tied? He never comes through in the clutch."
If he hits a groundout when we're down 5-0 it's "why didn't A-Rod hit a homer and get us back in the game? He never comes through in the clutch."
If he hits a homer when we're tied 2-2 in the 8th, we all cheer for 2 minutes and then promptly forget about it. Compare this to Jeter, who hits a go ahead dinger and is remembered for weeks. It's unfair to Rodriguez.
Nhlyounggun11 08-13-2006, 11:03 PM ever hear of abritration? You have to play for 2 1/2 then you get the big bucks.
Dartmouth 02 08-14-2006, 10:10 AM I find it extremely difficult to be bothered with anyone who boos A-Rod and calls himself a real Yankee fan.
howard is not entitled to that kind of money yet, it is hi sophomore season
he will be when the season ends and he has 55 home runs

Ah well hes having an off year i hate the yanks but Arod is one of my favourite players
For what it's worth, A-Rod knocked in yet another game winning RBI tonight to salvage a split against the Angels.

It pisses me off to see someone get paid so much money for things young guys can do, or better(not just A-rod). The point is, A-rod should automatically be putting up better numbers because he is considered the greatest player. It's just weird to look at from this perspective, alot of you are taking this to deeply and over analyzing, and i understand Howard can only make a certain amount.
This is why you can't put a price on anyone, especially that much.

So because Charles Wang signed Alexei Yashin to the largest contract in NHL history he should score more points than Wayne Gretzky?

No, you're paid a certain amount to perfrom at a certain level, not the best. Yashin was paid that much to expect to put up 90+ a season, not put up the best numbers ever. A-rod is not expected to put up 70+ homers a season and over 150 RBI's, he's expected 40+ homers 120 RBI's, .300 BA and to play gold glove in the field, not to be the best ever(even though some consider)
This is why you can't put that price on anyone, cause people will expect the best, and take nothing short of the least.
This thread was made to show you that someone so young, in-experienced and paid very little can do better than someone who is automatically expected to have those numbers and paid very well to do so. That's it, nothing more.

I misread your previous post, my apologies.
I still argue that A-Rod should not be a victim of having money shoved into his lap by a stupid owner, just like Yashin shouldn't. What was he supposed to do, say "I'm not worth $25 million dollars, I'd rather make just slightly above the league average?"
Like Yashin, he should be a victim of his often poor performance.
BTW, for arguement's sake Ryan Howard isn't that young. He's 26 years old.
PHillYFan33 08-16-2006, 03:05 PM Howard is way better than A-rod IMo
A-Rod did hit a huge RBI single in last night's game but he also managed to pop out with runners on the corners in a tie game (on the first ****ing pitch from LaTroy ****ing Hawkins I might add) and he made a horrible error on a double play ball with the bases loaded that would've gotten Mussina out of what became a 2 run inning.
It can never just be good with A-Rod.
